I have checked all my email settings and they are correct. When connecting to my mailbox to retrieve emails I am able do so quite easily and it works fine. Though when I attempt to send an email it connects to the wap service and then it has the connecting to '(mailbox)' message until after about 20-30 secs it beeps and gives me a general error: try again error message. Has anyone else had problems with sending emails while being able to retrive emails fine on the same mailbox? I am using a pop3 server.
Thanks for any help
i cant send or get e malls and i am geting the same msg thet you have and i am on pop3 and check all the settings and its all ok but dont know why its now working and in orange they say its need to worck but nothing...some one can help???

It sounds like you are not using the correct SMTP server for sending emails. You have to use the SMTP server of your cellular (mobile) service provider, or at least some server that accepts messages from their network.
Generally SMTP servers are configured so that they only allow messages from their local network. This is necessary to make mass spamming more difficult than it would be otherwise.
Tero
i guess the smtp server must be the one provided by your service provider and if you have subscribe to gprs then that would be the better choice as its only charge you on amount of data sent rather than air charges in the case of wap connection.
I don't have problem like that b4. Should any error that doesn't allow you to send out mail via SMTP, you have to turn off SMTP security over in the server end.
Another way is to apply a free IMAP mail account at http://www.freemail.fm. It works in N7650. I have 2 email account running in my N7650, IMAP and POP3.
I know that BT Openworld have relaying disabled to stop spamming but I would assume that because I am logging on with my username and password just the same as I would if I was connecting with outlook on my pc then it would be allowed. I am on vodafone so does anyone know whether they have an SMTP server? I might just end up signing up for an account just for sending emails as you said.
Thanks very much for the help
Could the problem be related to the SMTP requiring authentication which I don't think the 7650 supports? I tried to use yahoo and when sending it connected to the mailbox and had sending message then it failed and I think this is because they say their smtp servers require authentication. I have tried enabling the "Secure" option and the "APOP secure login" but it has not helped so I am going to look for a service that does not need the authentication.

Yes Vizzavi, I had the settings in my phone, but I couldn't get them to work, so I'm using my ISP at the moment to retreive POP3.
I had to ring Vodafone, on at least 20 ocations and I must say they were very un helpful. I think it's down to the amount of staff they have, finding one that knew about POP3 Email over GRPS was impossible.
Someone from here eventually helped me out.
Search throught the forum postings, there's loads of email setting floating about.
ok could some one tell me what is it smtp?? 😞 and i have two things one is in the outgoing mail server i have ther smtp.012.net.il do its need to be ther smtp what ever it is....? and two ther is apop secure login its need to be on or off? and i am wit gprs so i need to call to orange to ask ther smtp or what?? 😞
Yeah Telecommunication Comapanies just arent keeping up to date with this stuff
my telecommunication provider told me I couldnt use the Email settings in the messages category as the network didnt support it
I dont know what crap they were on about, I can use it and receieve emails from it so I can get attachements but yes sending out is a no go. But yeah they dont know what there doing there, the staff in all these places need to be trained properly in the features and issues of GPRS technologies.
I had a thread on this when I was in need of help and someone listed a good free pop3 email site, but I cant find it.
And the url in the above posts of this thread I just get a 404.
the adress to the free imap site is actually
www.fastmail.fm
sweet I just discovered that when I last did my email settings I mustnt have enabled secure settings etc as someone else mentioned
because now I can actually SEND out not just recieve emails, so thats pretty sweeet.
So if ya cant send email try this
1. Disable the security settings in your email settings, so security off and maybe secure logon, not sure about that one if it has to be on or off
2. use the same settings for ya outgoing mail as your incomming mail is, I just set my outgoing to the same settings and adress and incomming and walahh im sending all over the shack
good luck y'all.
Help me, my ISP provides IMAP and POP3 and have tried both protocols to try and receive my Email on my 7650, I have tried IMAP with security on and off and have tripple checked passwords etc. but still get the same old "General: System Error, try again" message. I cannot send emails either due to the same error message.
Its not due to:
passwords - checked them hundreds of times
usernames - again, checked them hundreds of times
server addresses - IMAP, POP3 and SMTP are all on mail4.hostinguk.net (you can check this address)
security settings - (have tried on and off)
Wap connection - I can view wap pages fine in the browser
So, anyone got any ideas or a similar problem?
I have one random hypothesis: it maybe due to nonstandard characters in the username? Can anyone disprove this by having working email with an @ character in the username?
Have you created an access point to dial up to your ISP?
Or are you using GRPS Web? (Not wap)
Yeah, when I attempt to send or receive mail it says: "Connecting Using: Orange" which is my WAP access point, then says "Connecting to Hosting UK" whcih is the name of my mailbox, then it says "General: System error, try again"
:-?
You cannot get your email using WAP, you need GPRS web (Gives you access to WWW not just WAP)
Just a thought but if it's not configuration, have you tried switching the phone off, leave for 1 minute and turn back on. This fixed a similar problem for me.
i have the same thing-"General: System error, try again" and i did all i am on gprs and check all the things and nothing same all the same msg and i dont know what to do 😞
no i cant send mms coze the gprs in israel is just came out two weeks ago and they are now working on mms so for now ther is GPRS but not yeat MMS
hrmm sounds like they have just not set up your account properly or perhaops email just isnt supported on the server since its just came in.
When you signed up for GRPS and what not
they sent you a configuration file right?
There are a lot of variables to consider when connecting to mail systems.
As mentioned most email servers will only allow email to be sent from an IP in its own IP range. So if you are connecting through WAP or GRPS then you will not be using your ISPs IP which will then not allow you to send.
I use both Vodafone Wap access point and my ISP (BT Connect). Both will recieve pop3 email just fine with no problem. I have a problem sending email though as i have our mailserver (i run my own mailservers) set to authorise outgoing email. As yet i have found no way of setting this in the 7650. I can send to any domain or address on my own mailserver ok as that does not require auth for outgoing. It is just for emails outside my own network.
One thing i did find when setting it up was if i set the password in the email settings and set it to not prompt for password then i would get the same error message. I set it to prompt for password and it worked fine ?
Very strange. But after repowering the phone and trying again with the prompt for password set off it worked fine.
well i just dont know what to do i have one access point on gsm date and one on gprs and nothing and i did what you told me and poot yes on thep prompt but still the same ms... and when i am on wap he call lick 10sec and then heng up then call agen and after 10sec hang up.
do i need to get in to the mail when i am off on the pc or can i do it when i am on the net? i did the two things and still....
