Does anyone know how IMAP4 differs from POP3?
I'm after some way of being notified when an email is recieved. I've got free WAP calls so I plan to buy ActiveMail and set it to check once every hour, does IMAP alert the user if there's a message waiting, al la 'WAP Push'?
The primary difference between POP3 and IMAP4 is that with IMAP4 your email headers are downloaded to the phone and then you decide which mails you want to download. With POP3 all emails are downloaded on connection.
As regards whether the email client (the sw on your phone or device) gives you a notification that is a matter for the email client ... I would assume that it does.

In other words this means means that if you have a mailbox with plenty of messages, when using POIP3 you have to wait until all messagess have been downloaded, with IMAP4 you can download just the ones you want, or all of them if you like.
I have hundreds of messages in many mailboxes and with them IMAP4 is the only way to go with the 7650.

yeah, but with the 7650 u can also decide to only connect with your pop-account.
only go to connect, and not download all/new mails.
so the 7650 downlod only the headers of the mails..
so as u can see, theres no need of a IMAP-account.

What plan are you using to get free WAP calls?
I'm on a Genie contract (no longer avalible 😞 ) I get the following:
Unlimited SMS
Unlimited WAP
100 Minutes peak or off peak to O2 Mobiles and Landlines
For a tiny 12.50 a month
What they forgot to include in the terms and conditions was that:
You are not entitled to *ANY* customer service.
You may ring the 50p a minute helpline and hold for 45 minutes and then be disconnected at random.
Your bills will have errors on at a rate of about one every 5 months.
The upgrade team will take 3 weeks to reply to your emails/faxes/voice messages and then offer you a stinky Samsung A300 for 100.
Send more sms messages than they deem fair use (1000+) and you will have your account limited to 600 a month.
I've not had to call them too often and only once sent a silly amount of text messages in a month (800-odd) so i'm doing very well with them. If you ever have a problem though, (and you will) dont even think about trying to contact them. Their new name is O2-Online (Different network provider to the O2 sold on the highstreet) and their tariffs on www.o2.co.uk look great, but dont be fooled!
One quick thing, I don't want to tar all O2 Vendors with the same brush. The Carphone warehouse owned subsidy offer fantatstic service. You get bar graphs and pie charts of your calls and sms' sent to you in Excell and PDF format every month, they ring you if you could be saving money on another price plan and are honestly the very best. Orange come close though (My Motorola V66 was replaced under insurance by a DHL man within 5 hours of reporting the fault!).
