Released and iN the Shops are different things. And let's try those phones head to head before deciding Sendox is dead. Given the keypad differences (andi;ve tried both) the 7610 looses a lot of poitns here.

I read a post yesterday from someone who reckoned they'd bought the Sendo in France. They said the screen was dark and the build quality was poor.
I was surprised to read this. Anyone else heard similar reports?

The Sendo is NOT in the UK shops yet either, so even July for the 7610 would not be an issue having waiting this long for the X.
Anyway, the nokia looks a clear winner over the X... Symbian 7.0s, shorter, thinner, better looking, more features, Java MIDP 2.0, better camera.... and so on.
If the X had been ready at christmas, as first thought, then I would almost definately have got one, but now it's just too old, and too late. Sendo simply took to long to get to market and allowed the competition to catch up and overtake them.
Maybe when Sendo do an X2 and they getting to market quicker I will look again.

Are you sure? Ok, N7610 has 1 megapixel camera, but the X has stereo output and hot-swappable SD/MMC. But offcourse it depends on what's important to you...

Yes, the problem of the sendo x is that the ram is only 4 mb!
How do some of the other more recent smartphones compare to the x in regards to ram?

are there actually any symbian apps that require more than 2-3 meg of RAM??? I used to have a 7650 and only Doom and Opera got near the 2MB of RAM that I always kept free, but then there were no other places to store files, photos and movies compared to the X which has SD/MMC capability.
In reality, IMHO I think you will find that as long as you have other places to store files (32MB of onboard memory + SD/MMC with the X) 4-5meg of RAM wont be a problem for any symbian app or game.
I think people are getting confussed with RAM and Storage space.
32mb RAM for onboard storage and 4mb RAM for running apps.
Think of it as your PC, there is RAM memory and RAM Hard Disk space...
Sound just fine and dandy to me.

D: (RAM) = 1.4 MB
E: (Your Memory Card) = 128 MB
Z: (ROM) = 22 MB
What do people make of this?

well i have waited a long time now for this phone, ive had and returned a a835, n gage, p800, t68i and a t630.ive returned all of them just to wait for this phone to be released!! if your in the uk what network do you think this will be on?
I had one about 6 months ago from a friend who works at Sendo. The screen isn't dark..u need to turn the brightness up
it had a good reception, bluetooth is good, cosmetics scratched a bit too easily..keypad not for the fat fingered ones

I really hope that is true.the rumout about 4MB of RAM on the X was scary.
I would be interested in getting a definitive answer on how utilities such as FExplorer, for example, classify all internal storage as I think reported free RAM figures would appear to include both dynamic RAM (DRAM) + Flash RAM (when installed).
Although FExplorer identifies internal flash RAM as C:, I am not sure that the D: "drive" always represents the total amount of DRAM installed. Previous posts have suggested that D: actually represents a RAM disk created from dynamic memory.
The figures shown for the 7610 look odd as we know that the phone has a total internal memory of 40MB (according to Nokia) which I would assume to be from
8MB DRAM + 32MB flash RAM, however, this is very different from what FExplorer appears to be showing.
The reason I am querying this is because although people are reporting that the Sendo X only has 4-4.5MB free memory, this figure looks like free dynamic memory (i.e.out of 16MB DRAM) not internal flash RAM. Therefore when some people report that their phone has 10MB free memory, as this includes DRAM+flash, the equivalent free memory figure for the Sendo X would be 36MB (4MB DRAM + 32MB free internal flash).
As far as I am aware, the Sendo X has more internal memory (DRAM+Flash) than any other Series 60 phone on the market. Even if the Sendo modified 6.1s OS + 3rd party software like Real video player, MP3 player, Opera browser etc all took up 12MB DRAM, the 4MB DRAM left is still more than some phones have to start with!
The Sendo X has 16MB of RAM built in, and over 4MB of that is free.
Most Series 60 stuff (SIS and JAVA apps and games) are less than 500K, 1MB at most. The reason for needing the extra RAM is essentially only for playing N-GAGE games, which are big on graphics and audio. This is essentially illegal anyway, as the games are licenced only for use on the N-GAGE.
So, other than those games, most other applications and games will be fine. The other (main) thing to consider is program and data storage. 32MB of on-board disk for the Sendo X is more than any other current Series 60 handset. Add to that hot-swap MMC or SD cards, and it comes out really well. I was really surprised with the 6600 (6MB of disk), and SX1 (only 4MB of disk). The 7610 has 8MB, and they bundle a 64MB card, which is good, but is to make up for the shortfall of the built in memory. Also the 6600 and 7610 mmc cards have quite a bit of pre-installed software on them too, as there is not enough space on the handset in the first place, reducing further the actual storage space available too. The 7610 I saw didn't even have any games on it (the folder was empty), which I thought was odd - not even Snake !
The Sendo X has a good MP3 player (playlists, good UI), the camcorder has no stupid 10 second limit on it (you can record until the disk runs out), InfraRed still in it (dropped on 7610), opera web browser built in, MMS image editor (add clip art, etc), real voice control (dialling, opening programs), customisable summary screen with personalised custom tabs (Now! screen).
more ram = more smoth and fast execution of aplications, and more posiblities to open more than one aplication at time.
why 32 mb of flash ROM? the memory can be extended by SD or MMC card, the ram NOT!
if they have think to puto a lot of aplications in the start of the phone, they must have thought to put more ram, and not 16 mb like all nokia smartphones.

I think nokia 6630 is much better than the sendox, the sendox could have been the better 8 moth ago. but now... no body want pay 500� for a tecnology of last year.

Well, 32 MB onboard memory is a nice feature, but my 7610 has more than 64 MB "on board" since they included a 64 rs-mmc for free!. They did not install any games on purpose! There is no Series60 phone from NOKIA with pre-installed games so far. On the included 64 mb rs-mmc only a very small part (< 7 MB) was occupied with demosoftware and videos to show up the possibilities of this device.
Yes, the Sendo X MP3 Player is good, so the N6230 one is better! The camcorder of the 7610 can recorde up to 10 mins of video at 176x144 with 15 fps, with third-payrty software i can recorde till the memory is full 😊
The N7610 includes a real time image software (e.g. facewarp), realtime video editor for special effects and so on, there is no need to included some crappy games like "funny farmer" or "sendo pinball" if you can play games like SkyForce 😊
Opera browser is build in the 7610, too. The now screen is missing, but the 7610 boots up in 25 seconds, the X need about 60 seconds to play with! Real voice control is missing at the 7610, but i DOUBT that you will "talk" to your phone on the bus or at the train, not to mention in a meeting!
Game controling is on both sides - 7610 and Sendo X - very hard. The NavKey is a pain in the ass if you have to press a fire button and the control at the same time. On the X you have to press the "ball" and the navcircle to control, on the 7610 you have to press the nav key and the "5" key which is to small to hit properly.
For gaming: buy yourself a N-gage which is rather cheap (99 EUR here) 😊
So the X WAS nice, but this point is 6 months ago. Now it is "just" another series60 phone, outdated because of the Symbian 6.1, themes missing, lack of RAM, too expensive (499 EUR), i can buy a SX1 or 6600 for about 370 EUR now.
The 7610 is about 479 EUR now!

For the N-GAGE fact: the newer games do not work on any other than N-GAGE devices, reason: more memory needed and 65k color errors 😉 So forget about this, you won't get Ashen, The sims, etc. to run on a Series60 device other than N-GAGE!

Not sure where the 60 second boot problem is from - must have been an old handset you had, or had debug running on it - it's now about half of that.

Agreed, the Voice control in normal use is not much use, but when driving, with a BT car kit, or walking along with the BT headset on, and the phone in your backpack or laptop bag, making and receiving calls is a lot easier, not having to touch the handset at all.
All of the S60 handset have their good and bad points, and, at the end of the day, Nokia and Sumbian are winning from all of them (licence fees), and as consumers, the more on the market, the more software will be developed, which is great for us too. We're in a Symbian forum after all, so let's support them all.
