RNG tones stored where?

OK, I followed the "alternative manual" here at allabouter6 regarding downloading and using rng tones.

It says to store them in c:\system\tones.
I don't have that folder (yes, I do have "show system folder" on)
I created that folder, but when I go to change a personal ring tone, firstly my rng files aren't listed with the originals, and secondly it won't let me browse to that folder.

Where should I store rng files on the 9290? I can put them in the Documents folder, but I would prefer they stayed with the originals. Is that possible?

I also noticed when you search for something, it doesn't give you the option to search sub-folders (I was using the File Manager in the Office Apps)

Hi,

All my extra ringtones (around 900+) i have it stored in drive D in a specila folder called "xtra ringtone"... its advisable to do this coz u dont wanna jam your drive C with ringtones...

u can alway locate your ringtone in the profile setting...
profiles>edit>general>ringing tone>change>browse>memorycard>your folder.

I have all my ringing tones under D(Memory card):\Documents\Tones. And if you'd like to change them, do as Nosferatu describes in his posts!

I have ! but still no ringtones in the folder where found although file manager lists them there !

I have the same problem with some other apps (presentation viewer for instance), looks like the mimetype function doesn't work like it should.

Just changed my ringing tone to test it and yes it works... 😞
I took even the ending .rng of one tone away and it still shows under profiles when changing.
If nothing else helps, maybe reset your phone.

it's been like that since i bought it , i kinda toke it for granded that you couldn't use extra ringtones ,maybe it's because i haven't upgraded my firmware since i bought it ,dunno

It has nothing to do with your firmware. I have my ringing tones from the beginning on my memory card and while having had 3 different firmware version (3.54-4.13). Unless you still have 3.18, but even there it should work.

Maybe it is time for an firmware upgrade... 😉
Nosferatu i do the same thing as you but i can't "see" the rng in the folder !
😃 actually the problem is not "where to put the ringtones" coz no matter where u put it, u can always browse and search for it in the profile settings... just make sure u know which folder... 😉

Actually, I created that folder as listed in the alternative guide (c:\system\tones), and found that, even with "Show system folder" on, the browse option in the profiles does not see the system folder.

So you would have to put it; in the root of the communicator, the Documents of the C:\ or anywhere on the add-on memory.

Another thing I found: not all *.rng files are seen as ringtones. I downloaded top_gun.rng and good_bad_ugly.rng from here, but the icon does not show the musical notes. They show up as unrecognized files. VORMULAC-> Maybe that is what is happening to some of your rng files not showing up.

Can you send me these ringing tones as PM and I put them on my 9210 to see what is happening.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I can even take the .rng ending away from the file and it is still recognized as ringing tone. Very strange behaviour on your machine...

Yeah... have some of it zipped and u can post it here if u want... let us all see... whats the actual problem... 😉

Here are the two that "won't play nicely" with the rest.
I just did a download from here...
http://www.allabouter6.com/communicator/downloads/ringtones/rngother.php
to get the most recent, and got the same response...

Now, I am not that naive to believe that these are actual rng files, I am just saying I don't have any other tools to verify what these files actually are.

Also, it still doesn't answer the question of where the originals are sitting, and why you cannot browse to the system folder when browsing for rng tones.

Okay, I tested both ringing tones from your Zip file and I even downloaded them from the list (from where you got them) and there are definitely not working!
Nosferatu, any luck for you?

Nosferatu-> Where might I partake of your divine collection of ring tones? 😉

(Other than the linked supercollection)

UPDATE: Never mind...seems like the supercollection would be your ENTIRE collection...wowsers! What choices!
