7650 FAQ's

112 replies · 18,295 views · Started 24 September 2002

I am soon starting the long awaited Nokia 7650 FAQ's that a few people have been asking about. This should hopefully clear up the fourm a bit with questions that have already been asked many times.

I would appricitate it very much if you could post common problems on this thread, you know the one's that have been asked 100's of times and your sick of answering. This will make my task slightly easier.

I will be hacking trough the fourm trying to find Q's & A's all this weekend, so It shouldn't be too long before it is completed. 😃

If any of you have any suggestions please feel free to add your comments.

Thanks,

Jordan.

I'll go first ( coz am new ) 8)

THE main prob that i face is there is alot of good programs out there but ofcourse u already now that the memory isn't that big enough , my question well we owners of the N7650 have a chance to have a memory card to boost memory or to have a removable disk , Like the one one N3650 well use , kinda like the SONY memory stick ?!?

So well we 😃 get the chance or am just gonna have to buy the damn thing ?

I don't think this is really for us to answer, but I'll give as much information as I can, although at the moment all we can do is speculate.

I suggest you add to the Faq that to change the wallpaper, you need to go:
Tools->Settings->Phone->Standby Mode. Selecting "Yes" to the Background Image option allows you to select your choice of wallpaper.

This was certainly not obvious to me and I've seen it a few times on these forums 😉

Even if u have a memory card, where will u put it in? The 7650 has no slot and will never have one. No chance for memory expansion, as far as I know. Not until there is a successor like the famous 7650i 😊

What I would like to have in the FAQ is a complete list of all available codes (like the ones for IMEI number or for hard reset) ..... 😉

when this FAQs will be finished ????

i can;t wait to read it

i got exam holiday for 2 weeks i gonna read the FAQs

hope it will be more than 2 pages loll

Grrr.....Don't expect a essay. I'm doing this in my own personal time. I've started it at work but da boss ain't a happy puppy. What with spending so much time on here and writing FAQ's I'm spending 75% of my time not working. 8)

I'm gonna start it properley this weekend. I could do with a few more common questions & answers off you guys.

This is a great idea. Where are you planning to post it ? I have some webspace that I can give you.

If you want some help getting this done then I am there. I am currently working from home, so no chance of the Boss kicking my butt 😊

Let me know.

I'm posting on here next the the 9210 FAQ's that already exist.

Thanks for the offer, I should be ok for now. If I need any assistance I know where to come 😃

will make a contribution (hoepfully tomorrow). Off the top of my head some of the things that should go in.

Firmware - known firmware (and changes between them if known). How to work out your firmware, where to get it updated..

Operator logos (I'll have a go at ptoducing something for this tomorrow). i.e. what to name you graphic.

Wallpapers - size, how to install them, sources

Recommendations on software e.g. SeleQ seem to be the tool for customisations etc.

Batteries - high capacities available

Software - where to get it, how to install (both sis and jar)

Wap settings / access points

Shortcut keys

I try and think of some more, but not having a device makes it difficult.

in the end i suggest you to write

Please do not write email asking about serial number or anything related to piracy

😃 😃 😃

if theres more flow out of my mind,
i will be back.

A Swiss-guy 😉

You might also put in the FAQ how to set up BlueTooth connections to iPAQ and other devices ... I am no expert but I found this article seemed to explain it all http://www.wirelesssoftware.info/articles/bluetooth4nokia7650ipaq/

Otherwise I think others have covered the main points ...

Idea for FAQ

Q. Which PC USB bluetooth devices work with the 7650?

A. The only bluetooth tranceivers that completely works with 7650 are the 3com ones, as all others seem to use wincomm drivers which won't support sending files from the phone to PC. This issue will be addressed in a future release of the wincomm drivers (v1.3)

J2TheIZZO,

My contribution:

How to maximize battery life ?

(Firstly Battery life is very dependant on the network signal strength as well as usage pattern). But that apart, some settings on the Phone can help you conserve battery life.. Maybe eke out a few more hours of battery life.

Practical ones:
1. Have the screen saver turned on. (Lesser pixels to show lesser current consumption).

2. Have Light sensor turned on. This optimises the backlight turn on period. Switching it off quickly if there is a lot of light around (like during daylight etc.). Backlight consumes lot of current.

3. Have the contrast of the screen to the darkest setting you are comfortable with. Lighter the contrast more the power consumed. (This should ideally be a compromise between usability and power conservation).

4. As and when possible charge the battery when it is almost completely empty. (This maximises and keeps the battery in good health).

5. (Trickle charge seems to boost battery life ?? Can anyone confirm this?)

6. Keylock if you notice that the keys seem to get pressed unknowingly (in the carrying case etc). This is because whenever a key is pressed the backlight comes on. (and mostly if in the carrrying case, the light sensor is not going to work either, so it will probably be on for 15secs or more).

7. Try to use the speaker phone as little as possible.

8. I dont know if this one works (havent tried it!). The proximity sensor might drain some power too.

More difficult ones:
1. Turn off sound when playing games (the speaker is a big drain).
2. Try not to use the phone as a torch 😉
3. Try not to use the full keypad unless necessary. (I suggest having messaging and log on your idle shortcuts, contacts is always available on the joystick press)

Crazily impossible ones:
1. Try not to play games..
2. Try to switch to a more stronger coverage network..
3. Charge the phone whilst switched off. (Ideally during the night).

Thought of another one for the list - how to make the speaker phone have a reasonable volume - not sure where it was but I remember it had something to do wiht creating a voice dial for someone who wasn't there (or something like that). Perhaps someone else could find the reference post and put in a link.

I know the one!, cheers everyone you've been a great help.
Wow looks like its gonna be a very comprehensive list 😊
Yeah it looks like it may take longer than originally thought. :-?

25 pages so far! (Including the long list of every network operator, so you know what to rename the image when you change your Operator Logo) I will cut that down some how though.

Hi, ...when someone call me, i want see full photo of this person and no only thumbnail....is possible this???
Sounds great. Can I see an early copy sometime?

Rafe
😊
Yes, no problem Rafe, I'll send you a copy hopefully before the end of this weekend, so far i've added all the questions from here and some from the fourm, others from my head, I'm just starting to write the answers for them.

I'm off down the pub now for a few hours for a well deserved drink(s) 😉
