As far as Ngage Vs QD is concerned... hmmm I had the same question but then I decided forget it the QD is better lemme buy that. But the day before I went to buy the QD somebody in a MAll showed me the original Ngage... and thats it I had to get the origninal. Took me a while but I found a store with some phones left, grabbed one of em and I havent looked back ever since.
From my point of view these are the things I considered:
QD has better battery back-up +
QD has a brighter screen - didnt really matter to me cause u can hardly make out
QD is compact +
QD has hot swap +
QD has regular speaker postition +
QD has Arena +
THen came the negatives:
QD has no MP3 player
QD has no FM radio
QD has plastic finish, cheap looking keys
QD has this rubber lining that feels like its going to pop any minute
QD has no USB support
QD keys are very close to each other and makes typing SMS's a pain
QD cannot use regular headphones even if u got the converter .. this holds good for both UltraMP3 and MP3GO, the sound comes from both speaker and headphones and the volume in headphone is low and lacks bass.
Buying QD meant buying a card reader as well and everytime I wanted to try out some software I'd have to remove the card put it in the card reader, transfer the files and then put it back... I regularly change the MP3 list on my cell so with QD I'd get tired of 'hot-swaping'.
QD in general has a wierd shape and doesnt look as good ... and while gaming I didnt like the feel either.
so in the end I could never understand the price difference between the 2, seems I was getting better for less. So thats it... but remember as a gaming device the QD is as good as the classic, but the feel I could never get used to. If u are looking for a smartphone that is multimedia ready then stay away from the QD. Wait for a couple of months, I have a feeling Nokia will revamp and relaunch the QD....
I was looking for an MP3 player for Nokia n-gage QD and came across this forum. I noticed this post and you know wondered how you guys got your MP3/Radio on the QD. 🙄
You can't have radio on the QD except for a internet streaming radio via GPRS or a radio headset as a addon.As for mp3,just install one of the mp3 player for Series 60,the quality won't be anywhere near as on the N-Gage classic and do search the forum

Firstly, he's probably using UltraMP3 as the MP3 Player - which is all well and good but doesn't output the same quality and bass as the original N-Gage.
And for radio - he's probably using Avec Radio - which is a rubbish GPRS alternative that can't be tuned into proper stations, and uses bad quality streams - Real Player can do that anyway. And don't forget that using GPRS can cost you a lot of money.
There are no proper alternatives to the extras of the original N-Gage.

I want to buy an n-gage or qd but i have no idea which one to get. I know the original n-gage has better sound, usb port, mp3 player, and fm radio, but is it worth sacraficing for the hotswap and a smaller size???

It's called
AvecRadio - and no, it does not really work. It uses online streams which cost you money for GPRS costs.
its impossible 2 have radio on qd as it doesnt have tuner card u can install avecradio but it operates only thru GPRS.......so plz stop confusing ppl abt radio in qd.......n even if u install mp3 on ur qd ...sound really sux....ORIGINAL IS D BEST

The trial version should work fine,i don't use UltraMP3 so i really can't help you.

well yea... listenin to wave file songz are a pain....bad sound quality nd mamoth space intake in comparison to mp3 format.
But i had no choice... i won the QD at the Ngage gaming challange in calcutta ...playing Commandos nd hit the highest score in 15 mins :|
after chekin on da features of the classic n gage......mmm.......cud i change back to da classic plz :P
well... nywayz... letz figure out some way to atleast play mp3 format in qd...nd ya.....have to go on with da mono sound quality...:|

Nope am not using any sort of a freeware or anything....just... spent the whole day searching for one.
-It supports *.mp3 format of files.
-gives a decent sound quality....(far better than wave atleast...nd amr format never worked for me.)
-supports skins (from your stored images)

-ITS FREE !!!!

How do you transfer your mp3 to the QD ? I installed real player, copied an mp3
to a MMC, inserted it on the QD and cannot acces the damn file. I tried bluetooth but the files was too large and the QD run out of memory before copying it.
Will appreciate any help.

I use a MMC card reader. it's quite cheap and easier to use. And I also tried to play MP3 files through realone but couldn't find the file either. Try UltraMP3-you can find it at handango.Or ask different people in the forum, each one has its app of choice. Apart from the MP3 player for QD, if you can get a PC sound editor youll be able to convert the MP3 files to mono, thus reducing their size considerably.
u can upload mp3s from yor pc to the memory card directly thru the PC suite.
Start the Pc suite.....go to control panel....choose file convertors in "enable convertors" option...choose none.
now put a MMC in yor cell....choose the memory card in yor PC suite xplorer nd upload mp3 files.
U need an Mp3 player to run them....Real One doesnt supprt mp3 formats.
