There are a couple of dealers selling the Nokia 9500 here in Mumbai for Rs.80000 (Approx US$1777). The price will come to a below USD1000 within a week. Am waiting to lay my hands on one. I should probably get my hand on one in the next few days. As soon as i do, there will be a full review on it right here.
PS. - Am yet confused weather to buy the Nokia 9500 or the XDA II???? :? :?
after reading a lot of reviews on the 9500, i think the XDA II is a better deal.
I love the keyboard but with all the new software for handwritting recognition the XDA II might not be a slow way to type. The XDA II has a new ThumbBoard now.
The XDA II has more internal memory & a WiFi upradeable too.
I am assuming that both the cameras are at par , so lets treat that as equal.
The 9500 plays MP3 ringtones & the XDA Ii does not, but thats not bad, just convert MP3 to wav & thats fine.
Video Playback is good on an XDAII, well i'm assuming that the 9500 is also same.
GPRS connectivity is probably equal on both. Both have all the functions.
The nokia 9500 does not have a Vibrator.
Lots more differences, these were some imp one for me. So i guess all things point to the XDA II....... but somehow my heart yet says COMMUNICATOR....
... i dont know why?? but ive used a communicator since the nokia launched the 9000 & i yet think that the nokia 9110 was the best out of the lot.
Please comment, so i dont waste my money on something that i dont like eventually.

How do you figure that? What about built-in Wi-Fi, Edge, battery life, twice the screen resolution, Opera browser, stability of Symbian compared to Windows Mobile, big QWERTY keyboard etc. etc...
:?

You took the words out of my mouth.
I must say I like the 9500 better too! If he would say that he preferred the Motorola MPx over the 9500 I could understand it a little bit, but not the XDAII.
P.S. is it true that the 9500 won't have vibration?
Does this mean that it could be released in Europe before December ?
Let's hope so.
I was expecting a small number available in December then taking several months for availability without joining a queue, or being lucky enough to find one, like I was with the P800. Hopefully I will not regret the wait for this like I did with the P800.
I still prefer to use a keyboard, I've tried an Ipaq and pointing at a keyboard with a stick is tiresome, so tiresome I'm going to get rid of it. That said I think I'll miss the Psion-5's touch sensitive screen which the 9500 is also missing.
Delta737 wrote:P.S. is it true that the 9500 won't have vibration?
Yep. Has something to do with the size, how massive the device is. You wouldn't really feel the vibration, and if they'd make it powerful enough to feel, you'd risk damaging the electronics. The older commies didn't have vibration either.
Really, that's a shame. Well I guess it's better than destroying the device I guess. Thanx for the info anyway
Thanks for putting my faith bathe cimmunicator. this was the critisizim that i was looking at.
So i guess within a week i will have my NOKIA 9500.... YIPPIEEEEE !!!!!!
cant wait.
yes but is it not only a prototype??
u will only get a demo of the deivce
also if u wait one week and it will drop 700$ why not wait two more weeks and get it free 😃
HyPeR wrote:The XDA II has more internal memory
That's false assumption. Internal memory of PocketPC devices is SHARED between storage and operating memory. So, the more you use for storage, the less you get for RAM. And if you consider that it is generally not a good idea to leave less than 64 MB for RAM (operating memory) then you only get 64 MB for storage. And this is LESS than 9500's 90 (80 free) MB of storage memory.
& a WiFi upradeable too.
Sure, for more money. With 9500 you don't have to upgrade (and pay) because it's already there.
GPRS connectivity is probably equal on both. Both have all the functions.
It is NOT. XDA II only has 'plain' GPRS - i.e. some 50 kbps. 9500 has EGPRS - 238 kbps, which means 4,5 times faster.
So i guess all things point to the XDA II
Hmmm.... none so far.

Thanks a ton for all the input, so the 9500 is definately better............. it wins hands down.!!!!
obvoiusly, im going in for the 9500 now.
thanks guys.
Well, if you do get it, be sure to post some (read: a lot of) pictures here 😊
Once u get ur hands on the 9500. Plz post a review as soon as possible..
Also pls let me know where the hell in mumbai did u get a dealer selling one.. Even i went looking for it and was told it would not be out before the month of oct.
Ok the review makes me want to buy one even more, dammit!
Hey it is not out
atleast according to www.indiagsm.com
anyways i also checked a couple of phoneshops out here and they too had no idea
if u in bombay, you can either try heera panna (the gadget shop) or manish market.
there are a few pieces only.
if you want one, let me know. maybe i can arrange one for you.

Is it still avialble for Rs80k in heeraPanna or has it reduced at all ??
I've been thinking a lot too, whether to go for XDA 2 or N9500.
N9500 is so expensive, where'as i'm getting the XDA2 for AUD$1100

the phones yet availabe in bombay for 80k..maybe its fallen by a few thousand rupees now.
also i've got news tthat its available in dubai for approx 4000 dhirams. which is approx half the price of what its available here in bombay... obviously this is the time for all the dealers to make as much money as possible. nokia india has advertised this phone in the up-comming models list as well. so i guess its not too far officially also.
reg. the delima between the new commie or the xda II...i almost bought the xda ii myself... but the commie will be a better deal anydays... plus the xda iii is also around the corner.. y buy an outdated model ( atleast it will be in a few months it will be)
my suggestion is to wait it out a bit.. ive alread sold my p900 & cashed in now, beofre the market for the p900 falls & have bought a 2nd hand nokia 6310 for the time being. its just a matter for a week max, bfore i lay my hands on a nokia 9500 (the king) & now after the review on my-symbian... theres nothing stopping me..
the best thing is that theres a KEYBOARD & T9 outside.
i only hoped for a vibrator... but thats a very very very very tiny sacrifice for all that ur going to get in this phone... plus i have all my contacts & calender backup on my 9210 as yet which is good cause the data transform is in-built. i wonder if software like task manager etc will work on the 9500... ????
:? :? :? :? :? :?
if anyone wants to buy one now for Rs.80k.. let me know, i can arrange one in a day or two.
as for me.. i think its definately worth spending the money..... if u have enough of it... 😃
Hyper,
Is the 9500 which is available in Mumbai, a prototype? or is it the final version which will be launched? Have they done any change in the Keypad?
theres no change in the keyboard or any specs as far as i am told from my dealer.. also these seem to be a full production version, cause they dont say "prototype or anything" it says MADE BY NOKIA ( which is usually the case when its manufactured in CHINA... mostly, but not always. )
its available in singapore, hong kong , dubai & india & it will be out in jakarta within a week for approx US$ 900.
most peices that are soming into india are coming through singapore or dubai only.
happy hunting for the best price.... please keep us updated... anyone..
obviously as soon as i lay my hands on one.. there will be tons of screen shots & a full review also.
Bythe way.. what were the keystrokes for taking a screen shot on the 9210?? i'm guessing its the same for the 9500??? if i rattle my brains... i'll remember.. but i'm sure asking is much easier..
Well, I guess then we anxiously await your review and screenshot 😃😃😃
😮
I live here in HK, where all the newest toys are in first... I am also waiting for 9500. There's still no news here except late Q3, early Q4.
Those seen by Hyper are nothing but prototypes just like on the ebay !!
Still NO ONE in the net have the pics of the 9500 with the Official box and assecories...
I got my SE k700i and Nokia 7610 for a month now !!! but no shadows of the 9500.
I dare you to post pics WITH the official box/accesories and I'll apologize..or else stop posting unverified reports.
i will post then as soon as i buy one for myself.. which will be really soon..
in dubai they are selling it already... i'm surprised no one from dubai is posting pics of it...
🙄
I will turn green monster in jelousy...if you bought it and post pics of it (especially the box/assecories) and I owe an apology...
make it fast !!! we're waiting !!
there is none in dubai anymore
they had ten but all were sold the very first day

The can't be anything else yet.
How much is the XDA 2 avialble in bombay for?
I still cant find the Nokia 9500 in bombay, asked asked a couple of dealers with no luck, but i'm wondering about the costs of an XDA 2 in bombay.
