Have a look at this 7650 site

Yeah I really like the site design. The only problem I found with it is it took a little while to load - probably because lots of people were trying to access it. It is a big improvement on the last design.

and beofre someone asks I actually thing the two sites are complimentary.

Rafe

I think it's definately an improvement.

The name change is also interesting. If I get a few spare bucks at the end of this month, I may buy www.allaboutsymbian.whatever and point it here (if that's Ok with Rafe). Anybody got another (better) idea?

Yeah we could probably use aname change at some point, but right now it way down the list of priorities.

I'll talk to you re the domain name Tanker.

Rafe

I still think this allabouter6 is better though! Much more information packed in alltogether! Larger community! Friendlier, and more people with actual knowledge about symbian! 😊

Can I be a Forum Elder now? 😃 😃 😃

Just joking! :P

Not sure if it's the kind of target audience you're after Rafe but 7650.xxx would certainly bring in the numbers. A new domain would have to be added with each Symbian device but a vast majority of 7650 owners (the "average joe" from Carphone Warehouse / The Link) would go to 7650.com first (or possibly after Nokia.com) when looking for software and news etc.

Just a thought.

That's an interesting thought. To be honest I'm not too bothered about visitor numbers. Sure its nice to see lots of people, but passed a certain point it not so important for me. The forums are busy enough already with the current level of visitors and to be honest I'd rather have the Symbian fans and more technically astute visiting (although anyone is welcome)... There's also the problem that we will reach the bandwith limit soon and I need to decide what to do about this (suggestions?).

Rafe

You gotta pay the bills somehow...

and if it's a choice between a subscription fee and load of bloody pop-ups - the cheques in the post 😃

I think the answer will be either trying to find a big sponsor willing to all the hosting costs or paying for the extra bandwith with donations (which I would press harder for) and maybe by having a few closed forums for donators or some other perk. That and giving more encouragement for people to use the Handnago affiliate store.

Rafe

ahh fees Bad
Id take on pop ups anyday, I really like this site.

But people hate registering for sites, little on paying fees or donations.

No offence but if this place charged fees or asked for donations I would pay, mainly because I dont have a credit card, and plus I dont believe in paying to use a message board just to communicate with people.

8) I am a web designer and developer for more than 5 years. And have some experience on portal like that. What I think about it, is.. we are heading in totally different approach. Do not think the portal will look nice if it's full with wonderful artistic design element may be good. It will not works for that. Content provider like allabouter6.com should be concentrate more on content rather than artistic, tho' design element have to compliment each other. As to say... need to be well balance and speed is important than other things.

Allabouter6.com is not a marketing, sales or product site but rather a CONTENT provider with forum application running behide. And is fill with new members to join.

Well done to the creator of this portal... You all have done it well!!! 😉

I feel allabouter6.com should not change much. Maybe it have to change it's download time... I have experinence very slow in download the content during working hours. ( Network bottleneck ) Hope to see some improvement in it.

Yeah I agree totally!

Downloading and opening this forum might be slow!

I have a DSL connection and still it takes time!
Maybe becasue of the database they use!

This is a PHP site, and PHP is well known for the speed compared to ASP.

But could be hardware as well, like the server machine, traffic, etc.
I dont think that it is their fault.

But overall, this is much better than the my-symbian.info site. And the Forum is like 1000 times better with more people!

Bye

Rafe, just a thought.

Maybe you can build a strong developer community that creates software for the whims and fancies of the forum members.. Simple ones that make life easier...

And either downloadable at nominal charge or for forum members or forum premium members ..

(The perk)

I would volunteer.. 😊

For the slow in accessing the site.. after my studies show that it is hosted in some server in Germany. Perhaps the webmaster might think of shifting to a server in the States, where the bandwidth is bigger.

As for the content,

I think that's will be great ideal to considerate.

Perhaps a columm for wallpaper of the week, best polytone of the week and a page for die-hard fan who love to create nice wallpapers for N7650 and downloadable for members ONLY.
