No, as far as I know the maximum size memory card that Nokia supports is 128 MB.
I read a post somewhere that it's also possible to use a 160MB memory card (or maybe a 256 MB memory card formatted as 160MB), but I can't exactly remember where.
160MB memory cards are rare and were provided with some kind of digital cameras, but I've never seen one and never heard from someone who successfully used a 256 mb MMC formatted on 160 MB.
Maybe you should wait a while and buy a 9500 (due to be released at the end of this year).
http://www.bbcons.de/ have stated that they have a 512MB MMC that runs on a 9210i with firmware version V 6.0
If you use the Nokia MMC cards they say they can run upto 256 to 512MB but I doubt it. One of my friends in singapore uses 256MB card which the Nokia 9210i picks up quickly and has no problem with it. The brand is 'APACER' a taiwanese product I suppose!

I have purchased two of the 512mb mmc cards and they work just fine in my 9290 with the latest firmware. If your phone has current firmware I don't think you are going to have any trouble with the larger cards.

No kiddin?
nce to be back!😉
too bad... i lost another communicator to another accident! 2 and stil countin... i wonder what a smashed 9500 wud look lyk????? 😃
Anyone knows how to format a 256 mmc card that doesn't work with a 9210i ? If it can be formatted as a 160 ,as Arjen says... :con?
Give it to the dealer they have the card reader, they can format the MMC with it, or can connect it to the PC and then format it as well.
Nevertheless, if your phone picks up the card you can format it.
I recently discovered on somecards you can only install mp3, docs files as in no software installation. So when you are buying as that from your dealer. I had to replace 3 MMC cards, as I thought something was wrong with the card, but when I asked their make support they told me it doesn't support software installation, but it can read normal simple data files you put on it!
Based on the comments in this thread, I just bought a 256 MB MMC card and it works in my 9210i with firmware 6.00.
Guess a 512 MB card will work as well, but for the time being I'm already very happy with my doubled-storage capacity.
I just bought a 1G mmc without realising the limitations of my 9210i - it seems unable to access programs - but possibly data only - I am still fighting with it, and will update - anyone else just fitted 1G without checking?
Well, something strange just happened. I bought a 256 mmc card that the 9210i refused to recognize despite any attempt (format using the communicator, several format using my computer...). So I used this card in a digital camera and left it inside for several weeks.
Just today, god knows why, I formatted the card in the digital camera ( a minolta dimage xt) and put it inside the communicator. to my surprise, it was accepted. I formatted the card inside the nokia, and it is available. I haven't checked if it allows software install, but it seems fine for data for the moment.
Anyone has any idea what happened ? I wonder now if I should have bought a 512...
Strange thing, the internal memory manager shows only 180 meg available, and not 256. Probably due to the system limitation. But then, does it mean a 512 card will be seen as 180 ?

haha...man...i left my 9290 on the roof of my truck and whammo...it ate asphalt...even got ran over...but...asides from being a little sore and squeaky...she works like a charm...now i'm ready to put this old girl down and get something younger and thinner...like a 9300...
For a while i have a 1 GB mmc card and it works perfectly even with old software on your phone. Only bad thing about it is you dont see the right amount of mb left on your phone. you just have to format your mmc to FAT 32 (FAT doesnt allow you to put more then 128 files in 1 folder) Watch wich card reader you use not all card readers read 1 GB when not yet formatted. after formatted you can save about 950 mb of data on your mmc.
Remember that the mmc 1gb uses as much or on old phones even more power then the battery can support. i have a 6230 with a BL-C5 battery 3,7 volts my mmc is using the same. the battery is emty twice as fast and the phone becomes alot slower especially when having lots of big files that are not in folders on your mmc
My-Symbian have tested a 1GB MMC on a 9210i with firmware version 5.33 and it works.

Please speak in english.
my communicator is loaded with v5.54 firmware.
in brazil, nokia thinks we are doing a favor buying its devices... so, if I bring my phone to nokia for a firmware upgrade, ill have it back after months, or never
my first communicator, i messed up with the os (yes... the rom is writable!) and the phone is dead, sunk in my acquarium
but... my question is... does my 9210i communicator supports 256MB MMC? I think it is the ideal size for this kind of device.
In Brazil, buying a 9500 or 9300 isnt an option, because they are as expensive as a car.
I have tried a 1Gb MMC from Mobymemory, and it appears to work perfectly well.
My 256MB Kingmax MMC has just arrived.
I inserted it on the phone, formatted it and VOILA, I cant write any file bigger than 400KB.
I tried to format the mmc again and the phone hanged.
And now... it isnt recognizing the mmc.
Great!
IT WORKS! i bought a 1gb mmc card for my nokia 9290, thats right 9290, not 9210 or 9210i, THE USA RULES!!!!! but anyway, it works fine with the 5.07 firmware, that is if your definition of fine is glitchy and buggy but usable. It doesnt work very well with aplications, but with media files it works well enough. it plays RM files very well, BUT, you have do 3 or 4 odd methods instead of just open and run. however, give it 2 weeks and you'll find out how to use it well enough. The hotswap works great so far. If your wondering the model of my mmc card, well, i cant tell you because i dont know. Its generic and had no brand listed on either the card or package. But it works and for $55 or about 60 euro, hey, i aint complaining.

Rating of Generic 1gb MMC card on 9290 with 5.07 firmware: 3/5 😊
The basic thing is all MMC cards run -- also ones with higher capacity but some do not support software installation. So if you install and run .sis files on the card, when you open the program after installation from the MMC, it would crash and give you a kernel error aborting the program.
However if you just have pictures, mp3's, movies, media and etc on the card they would run fine from it. This had happened to me once, so I went back to my card dealer and replaced the card's brand with another brand then it used to work fine for me.
I just bought a 1GB MMC+ card from eBay, and it works fine so far, both data and programs (the "memory" application is installed on the memory card). This is on a Nokia 9210i with version 06.00 of the firmware. Have not filled the card yet, but will soon (TomTom Citymaps 😊
On Ebay, look for
