If the phone's on and u decided to format the MMC from the PDA side, would it afffect the phone side? Does the reformatting create system files on the MMC in addition to system files on the phone itself? Are there other essential files the formatting process creates on the MMC?
What happens when U format a MMC?
No files will be created on the mmc, everything on the mmc will be deleted.
The results for your phone will be the same as your remove the phone.
So to test what would happen if you format the mmc, just take the mmc out of the phone.
for the phone side thats true. Note however that on the PDA side there's a notable differece between "No MMC" and "MMC with no data"

In a similar vein... is there a program to defrag the MMC?
During my debacle with my Gadget Golf purchase, I downloaded, installed and uninstalled golf several times. One thing I noticed was that after an uninstall, the size of the D:\ was incrementally less than before the install. (I installed 15+ times).
I lost about 2 megs of space in total. I know that is not much when you have 128, but its the principle of the thing.
Or is it fragmentation? I did not find any other duplicated files or orphan files lying around.
I have an MMC CARD READER... whenever i feel bored i will copy everything from my MMC to my PC... format my MMC... and copy everything back... hehehe... thats how i defrag mine i guess... 😉
or is that the way to frag it? Fragging and defragging would only be relevant in the case of a hard drive with a spinning disk in my view, not in a flash card without any moving parts.
just my 0,02
Its not defragmenting... but all i know is that newly formatted drive is always free of fragments.... hehehe... 😉
