Although it's been around for a while now, WAP still seems to be moving very slowly. Personally, I don't see much point for it. Do people regularly use WAP and if so, how often and what for?
Do you use Wap?
WAP limits my phones capabilities! Never used it for something else than just testing if it works! 😊
Yeah I use it once in a while for checking some tech news or so. But mostly I use my PocketPC or now Webviewer to check the 'real' web
So you don't use it "regularly" then?
i didn't like it
i'v got my sony vaio with my where ever i go and i connect by mobile so it's not werth it
and i didn't like
This is disappointing! In almost 50 views, we've had only 11 answers to the poll and of the eleven, only three have provided a reply 😞
Chin-Up merlin!!! Somethings take time! 😊
MaleBuffy, we'll see. Thanks for the optomism 😉
Yes i use it almost everyday. Most use for internet banking and to check out traffic condition on the road and also the weather of the day. 😃
What do other people out there use WAP for?
TV Guide, Tweakers.net (Dutch Tech site) and news (like Ananova) 😃
Read news, check what's on TV or which movies are shown on theater.
I'm at home on the real web. Don't want wap. Mainly because I have to call my operators and have it switched on and ask for the settings.
That's also the reason why I never use the fax.
normal internet is easy (at least if your cellphone provider has data auto enabled) just sign up to a web provider anonymously and you are ready to go.
I personally hate what I have seen of WAP so far. When considering I get a 1MB connection at home for 35 per month, using a SLOW ASS WAP connection just angers me, especially at 10p per minute.
In fairness, I think WAP would take off big time if it was faster and cheaper, until then..... 😞
Just my view of course.
I find wap useful, but only for when i need information and the web is out of my reach. Have found it a life saver for its traffic updates for when im on the move, and it is also a good way to kill time whilst in traffic jams, viewing all the useless wapsites and checking the latests news and sports results. 😃
I find WAP useful for location based services. If I want a route to somewhere, or the nearest cashpoints to where I am, it's handy to have the system detect where I am and give me some useful information (I didn't even know that Location Based Services had been made available until I got my 7650 😮ops: ).
Anyway, that and a bit of news (even the Vizzavi WAP site has some interesting stuff), but I keep well away from chat rooms because they're just full of hormonal teenagers who have just learned the difference between girls and boys.
Location Based Services ??
like GPS can i use the LBS in australia ???
I hate WAP, what the point when you can look at WWW or your 7650?
By Local Based Services he means it tells you where the nearest cash machine, cinema, pub ect ect...That's quite handy if you are in a place you don't know very well.
I'm sure there will be a simlar service in AUS try your network providers WAP page.
owww
i think it;s like gps and i can know where i am and where is the nearest place that i want 😃
I use wap to download ringtones
almost everyday,
thanks to the beauty of being on free WAP tarrif.
It's far easier to check my e-mails from the sofa than the PC in my study,
I use it to check eBay.
I can't really use the net at work for some of these things
I use WAP regularly: news especially sports results is well suited to it, train/bus timetables but they can be fiddly. software downloads (MIDlets), and lots of other stuff from time to time.
I don't think I'd use it if I had to pay for it but fortunately my network allow free WAP surfing. Can you call it surfing when on WAP? More like paddling
I use WAP every day. Not only to surf trough WAP services (local news, weather, Symbian news, etc) but also I can use the wap.google.com to access virutally whatever WEB page. Usng the option GO TO URL you can use their proxy to access WEB pages, as it converts them dinamically into WML pages that you can see with your WAP phone. Quite nice 😃
billmcd / fylshearer,
Which Country/Operator are you in/with?
Just wondering because the thought of free wap access is intreresting :P
It would be worth using for eBay etc if it didn't cost so damn much in the UK / T-Mobile.

Didn't realise Google done that, wap sounding better by the minute 😊
WAP is almost totally pointless and entirely useless.
I used it once, because I had loads of free minutes to use up.
I found some boring rubbish WAP game, played for 5 minutes and was so bored i just turned it off.
Stupid T-mobile decided to charge me for the call time anyway! despite the fact they told me it was included in my free minutes.
So overall I am less than under-whelmed with WAP.

That's what I thought, but looking at the current results of the Poll, not everyone seems to agree
I only use WAP when i am not at home and away from all other forms of communication like whilst playing football on Saturdays i want to know the latest sports results i check it at half time or ask someone on the sidelines to check it.... but other than that WAP is rather hopeless, and pretty expensive
I use WAP on a daily bases for news, funstuff, porn etc... I find it very usefull and inexpensive(through GPRS atleast). Webviewer is usefull too, but unfortunatly it eats up Kb's like there's no tomorrow!
There's hardly any content on wap ..atleast as of now. I had used it just twice, to see if it works, and for installation of Webviewer.
Well, if you've used it just twice then what the hell do you know 'bout it
I agree that WAP is kinda a failure, partly because it was overhyped from the beginning and ppl was just lead to expect too much from it. But as of today, I for one find that it has improved a lot during the last couple of years. There's lots of coloured WAP sites out there and through google you'll be able to find just about any info your looking for.
