ok i got my sendo x through vodafone and unlocked it.
Im wanting to upgrade the firmware im trying to use the english expansis version
but it wont install, just goes says connection problem that every1 is on about.
A few things i want to know is
will the german MMC version work on the english X?
will it get rid of the vodafone on and off screens?
Do not upgrade your phone except with the version approved by the original operator/distributor.
Apparently according to Sendo. a UK Vodafone version will be released soon once VF have approved it.
You will not be able to remove the Vodafone on/off animations.
mobilewonder wrote:how did you unlock it??
They mean that they network unlocked the phone by contacting Vodafone for the network unlock code so that they can use any network SIM in the phone. Vodafone usually provide the phones network locked to their SIMs
Yeah Vodafone charged me 20 to unlock the phone because i wanted to use it with an o2 sim as well.
They were quite happy to do it, but i dont really think they had a clue what they were doing at first becuase it took the lad a few times to ask a few coegues how to do it lol.
Very friendly lad though, got there in the end

The reason they charged you is coz the phone was under 12 months old. When you buy the phone it is subsidised by Vodafone to make it affordable to customers. They base this subsidy on the calls they think you will make and if they didn't have it locked they would lose out coz a customer could simply use another network sim to make calls. Hence they re-coup the subsidy if you require the network unlock code.
However, if your phone is over 12 months (usually, depending on price plan and contract)old they let you have the code for free (i think that was a requirement by the government agency Ofcom).

Yeah i knew that was the case. i was happy to pay the 20. I was looking all over to get it unlocked, not once for a week did i ever imagine that i could just ask voda to do it lol
I have the same problem updating my phone. Can the phone be updated by copying the firmware onto my SD card and transferring that to the phone memory???? Can anyone help me please as I dont really want to have to send it away over xmas and I'm pi55ed off with having to download such large files!
I'm using Voda UK handset by the way and want the new expansys firmware as my web doesnt work at all and my phone has 101 annoying glitches.
HELP
how many times???
The Expansys firmware WILL NOT INSTALL ON A VODAFONE UK HANDSET - it's not meant to, hence, it WON'T!
You HAVE to wait for the next UK Vodafone release to be approved by Vodafone!
Vodafone have no idea when it will be ready. Im guessing they are to busy with their new 3G networks right now.

I hope they hurry up, the bugs in the phone are driving me nuts!!
* When using autolock, you can still press the voice activation button and it says "Please say a" then stops and goes back to autolock
* Can't change alarm tone
* THE PHONE TASK DIES. I've missed several calls and find I have to keep re-booting the phone before I make a call otherwise it simply says "disconnected" while trying to dial if I don't.
* JAVA implementation has too many bugs as well.
Anyone else finding these problems on the Vodafone software? I'm beginning to regret buying it.
I cant say that ive had any problems with mine, i just want the upgrade so i can begin to theme it properly 😊
omegax,
On your firmware you can add the themes currently available from Sendo, and *should* be able to add the others as well.
Theming support was added in 1.56 (50C) and your firmware definitely contains that support. It's in the next firmware when some theme support will be changed, and they will need to be updated in order for them to work again.
I know the ones from Sendo work, but the user created thems are being developed on the new firmware, and are not backwards compatible (menu icons get messed up)
Thanks for the repy though

I can vouch for that too, the icons change to what there not supposed to be.
I just got another E-Mail back from Vodafone. They still don't know when the firmware will be released. Im going to keep bugging them. Ill get a straight answer eventually 😊
I can't believe they're being so slow about it...unless they're waiting for the next firmware to be released...I don't know what the timescales for that release are though 😞
They are not saying. They just say, and i quote:
"Thank you for your mail.
we still have no further news with reference to the new firmware for the Sendo X handset.
I trust you will find this information useful. If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us"
Basically your usual hand off.
I love that... "we have no information...we trust you will find this useful..."
So do i, this is why i am going to bug the hell out of them with my sheer loveliness 😃

whats the email address and we can all bug them!!!!!!!
The address i have is
Keep enquiring about the firmware. They will have to look at it eventually if enough users ask for it 😊

great thanks, im going to email them every day!! why do vodafone have to make beautifull phones look and sound so crap with there own images and sounds!!!!!
They didnt really do much customization really. You can easily chage themes, but you are stuck with the boot up stuff. But i dont turn my phone off/on that much anyway 😊
I've got to say guys, I don't mind the Voda boot up stuff (not that I have to live with a Voda handset), but I was impressed by how much they *didn't* screw around with the X.
...now, if they can just be persuaded about the firmware...

Spose your right about the X it hasent been messed round with as much as they do with other voda mobiles. at least the icons remained as they should lol

Doesn't sound very promising ,eh. 😮
Voda have told me that i can get a new X but i told them whats the point because they all have the same problem! if i got the phone replaced a few times then they would concider giving me a different phone alltogether.
Its like they dont have a clue that there is a few problems with the phone. To me i would class it as faulty because half the time it cant even just be a mobile phone!!
I dont even think they know that sendo have the firmware already out!!!!!!
I recently got off the phone with someone at Vodafone and she finally confirmed that they have just started to review the Sendo X's firmware. Took them long enough.

Thank God For That, so we just have to wait a year now!
