Nokia 9300 ship date?

Does anybody know when to expect Nokia 9300 in stores?

All I could get from Nokia is Q1 2005 that is a very wide window 😞

Any info about this will help.

It is scheduled for release this month. I'm expecting to get hold of a 9300 in two weeks time.

Which one do you expect to get GSM900 or GSM850 version?

Do you know anything about GSM850 version?

Sorry, I don't know anything about a GSM850 version. I tried checking with Nokia USA, but there's no mention on the site of neither the 9500 nor the 9300.

According to Nokia.com the only networks supported by the 9300/9500 are: EGSM 900, GSM 1800, and GSM 1900 networks in Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific, North America, and South America where these networks are supported.

I have no idea when, or if, Nokia will release a specific version of the 9300 or 9500 for the NA market.

That is exactly why I am trying to find out about GSM850 version using alternative sources. Official information on nokia.com site is very confusing.
Some of their pages say that supports version of 9300 with GSM850 will be released, but no specifics when. Official 9300 site has no word about GSM850.

Just today there is a new banner on nokiaus.com site that has 6230 (supports GSM850) and 9300 on it. When you click on 6230 link it brings you to the page that clearly says that it supports GSM850. But when you click on 9300 link it brings you to the European page of 9300 with GSM900 version only.

This is so confusing!!!

I feel so frustrated that I cannot find out right information anywhere. I also feel very sorry for the Silicon Valley that supposed to be the THE center of technology of the world. My personal experience is that Silicon Valley has the world WORST! cell phone coverage. If it is not GSM850 forget about getting any signal in the half of the places and be happy for the rest of the day if you ever see TWO bars on your GSM phone.

I had all communicators starting with 9000, then 9290. My current 9290 is just so outdated. I need replacement ASAP.
I feel like Nokia is really letting me down 😞

Expansys just posted price for 9300 = $809 where 9500 is just $854.95.

Does this small difference in price make sence to you?

I expected 9300 to be at list $150 less expensive then 9500. Am I wrong?

As with all new phones, they're more expensive at first. So that might explain the small difference.

Maybe there will be a bigger difference later on when the 9300 has hit the market for a few weeks/months

Hmm, that's some silly pricing by Expansys indeed. Over here the 9300 is currently priced at about €150 lower than the 9500, as it should be.

I got my 9500 today, although I wanted a 9300, but the difference with our company prices was 50 and I didn't want to wait until February 😃

I believe you made the right choise. Why go for 9300 when you can have it all with 9500? 😊

I actually want to go extreme all the way on the size and weight to smallest package possible after 9000il it makes most sense. I am willing to overlook Wi-Fi and camera, just to be able to have something small. 😊

What do you mean 250 9500????

Because he works for a company with 250 employees who require a 9500, and he has to prepare all these phones for them

:con?

Sorry, but my fragile mind just could not handle such a big number of communicators at once, while dwelling in this obscure part of the world where I have never seen another communicator user alive in my life (other then myself).

The 9300 comes bundled with a 128MB MMC card btw (at least mine did), with MobiReader, ProTourGolf and SettingsWizard pre-installed.

I haven't had the time to use it much yet, but I have to say my initial impressions are that this is one well thought out, quality built machine! And it's just so small and light (for a Communicator).

The keyboard is very comfortable to use for thumb typing. It is also easy to use laying it on a desk and typing that way with two fingers. The weight balance isn't as bad as I thought either, you have to push the screen quite a way back before it tilts over. Generally the keyboard is very sensitive with very little tactile feedback. The same goes for the joystick, it is extremely sensitive. It takes a while to get used to. I haven't really formed an opinion about the joystick yet, but I find the keyboard to be good. The default keyboard tone (quiet) is very discrete, and for the first time I actually feel comfortable using a phone with the keyboard tone turned on. It is also quite vital to leave it on since the keyboard is so sensitive.

The front keys are also very comfortable and the navigation pad is OK, but it could be a bit more sensitive IMO. The backlight is white and very bright. A bit too bright as you can see the light shining through the cover a little on the sides.

As to the screen it is just great. For me it is actually too bright so one of the first things I did was turning the brightness down to the first bar.

Navigating the UI is quite fast. It does have that same white screen redraw when you open applications that aren't resident in RAM, as the 9500, but most apps only takes about 1-3 seconds to open and it doesn't feel any slower than any other Symbian phone I've used.

Thanks for your first impressions. I'm nevertheless happy with my 9500. WiFi works as a charme and the keyboard is easy to write on with four fingers
Some of colleagues already said that the 9500 is too big for them and they will go for the 9300. So I will test it again.

How is your synchronisation working? This was the biggest nightmare so far (I haven't moved any data from an old communicator). The contact synchronisation is not working at all properly. At least it stopped after synchronising 420 contacts (out of 550). Calendar and Email works fine, however I need to have seperate synchronisation sessions. If I want to sync calendar, contacts and email together in one session, the software refuses to work... 😡 Apparently this should work better on the 9300.

I'm looking forward to more "test results" from you 😃

Hehe, yeah that's not something you'll be able to do on this thing unless you have the fingers of an eight year old girl.

I kept going back and forth in my mind trying to decide which communicator to buy before I settled for the 9300. Eventually it was size/weight that became my deciding factor. I plan to keep this device for a long time (probably until we see a touchscreen commie, hopefully some time in 2006), and I felt I would grow tired of the 9500's size after a while.

I haven't gotten as far as syncing yet. Actually my very expensive, top of the line (piece of cr@p!) Dell laptop has died on me, so I'm left using my (very) old WinME (ugh!) laptop. I'm really dreading setting up the sync on this machine. And I don't know when I'll be able to have the Dell fixed. Needless to say I'm having problems with Dell's customer support. Ever dealt with those people? Some "customer support" ey... 🙄 The sneaky bastards are trying to avoid my warranty claim by saying that my "service agreement" has been expired. Apparently a two year warranty means nothing to those people. I tell you, as soon as I get the piece of sh!t fixed, I'm selling it and I'll never purchase a single thing from Dell ever again. 😡

Phew, I feel a bit better now. 😃 I don't really have anything else to report yet, everything just seems to be working so smoothly. But if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask (anything except syncing). Setting up e-mail and Internet and all that only took a few seconds with the SettingsWizard. And the lid is great. When it is closed, it stays closed (with a magnet), and opening it and pushing it back requires just the right amount of force. Like I said before, I feel that this is one device that has been given some serious thought before it was unleashed upon the market.

So does anybody have any info about ship date of 9300 in us?

I now have 0 9300 and 0 9500 as I have handed them all out! Should get mine soon though.

If you really don't need wireless and are not bothered about camera I would definitley go for 9300. Was a much 'sexier' device and fitted nicely into a pair of jeans.

Having a load of problems with SYncing Lotus Notes with WECM/WEA at the moment. Admittedly mainly our own fault through incorrect DNS entries and ID files not configured on right servers etc. Work is a nightmare at the moment!!!
