i just recieved my motorola a1000 on wednesday & guess what? i've already managed to drop it & crack the screen. so as you can probably guess i'm feeling a little stupid & depressed right now.
but it gets worse. i went through my documents etc to see about getting it repaired/replaced on insurance, only to find that i have absolutely no cover as 3 are re-arranging thier policy (see here ).
does anyone know anywhere in the u.k where i can get it repaired?
Try looking for spare parts on eBay.

phoned carphone warehouse express repair centre. they don't repair them yet.
tried ringing motorola uk. not open over the weekends.

Im there with you - my screens bust as well, i've been after a carry case, like i had with my a920, it had a solid pane in the front protecting the screen. I've waited since i got my phone in oct for that damned case, and now, too late. Screens ****ed, so i'f you do find somewhere that'll fix it, please let me know... though stupidly with 3 it'll prob be cheaper to just get a new contract and a new a1000....

unfortunately it seems that 3 are the only people who can fix it. I tried contacting motorola uk directly but they only support repairs through 3. fortunately 3 have said they can fix it even though it's un-insured so they are collecting it tomorrow but they have to invioce me for the repair.
i was stupid enough to drop it so it's only fair that i have to pay to repair it.
Well it turns out there are lots of insurance companies out there who do cover accidental damamge, and as your phone is new, some of them will even let you make a claim within the first 28 days of joining up. You have to pay an excess, which could be up to �50 depending on who you go with, and you may have to pay for three months insurance up front, which could be 20 - 25, but surely that beats the cost of repairing your phone? Just a thought...
it's too late now. 3 picked up the handset today & i should have my quote in the next three days. i'll post the quote price here when i get it as i'm sure i wont be the only one with this problem.
Well i can vouch you're not, and i'll be interested in the quote. Surely they know how much it costs to replace a broken screen though? do you have to pay for the pick up if you aren't happy with the quote? Suppose only time will tell. Good luck.

they wouldn't tell me the price of a replacement screen because they claimed there could be other internal damage as well. i know that wasn't true because the phone was working perfectly. just several large annoying cracks on the screen.
Ever get the feeling you're about to get screwed? I cant find the sodding reciept for my phone now. Bloody marvelous.
i've just picked up a cheap 6630 off e-bay so if i'm not happy with the quote it can stay broken. so much for my first experience with UIQ!

o.k. I got my quote in the post this morning. �55 for the repair & shipping.
i don't think thats too bad considering the type of damage. maybe three are finally going to try & change the bad reputation they have?

i phoned 3 customer services & explained that i'd broke the screen. they arranged for a courier to collect the phone on the monday between 9am & 5pm(would have been next day but i phoned on a saturday).
the courier collected the phone at 5:15pm on the monday & that friday morning i recieved the quote in the post. there was a whole lot of babble about the damage not being covered by the warranty which i knew anyway & there was also a frightening paragraph stating that unlocking the phone invalidates the warranty as well.
so the qoute says �55 by credit/debit card within 80 days or the phone is kept by three/returned to the dealer.
Ok, thanks a lot for sharing. If it is that cheap for me aswell, hopefully it'll be a simple fix. Hope it goes ok and you get it back in one piece.

Bloody 3. I arranged pick up, and took a day off uni and waited in all day for the dude to come collect my phone, went out 6pm after giving up only to find a letter in the postbox saying "Sorry we missed you..." I was in ALL DAY. what did they do, tap lightly then sod off? I am _not_ a happy bunny.
I got it sent off and a quote through. �130. I don't know why its more than double your quote, i'll call them tomorrow for a breakdown. Grim, did yours come with a software upgrade? seems expensive. I don't know what this sw upgrade is to mind. I'll keep the info posted.
sounds strange. although my screen was still fully functional when i sent it back.
That'll prob be it then, my screen was bust through and through. phone worked, i still got signal etc, but the dye had leaked where the screen had cracked.
Ah well. I'll be able to pay it one day. Maybe when my student loan comes through in april.

when i got my invoice it said i had to pay up within 80 days or the handset would be returned to the supplier. i just got a reminder today that i have only 60 days left!!!
