Speed Problems with 6630

:frown: I have no experience with Symbian 60 series phones other than the Nokia 6260 which I quickly sold on in order to buy my 6630. However I have to say that I feel the speed of the menus and loading of apps is a bit on the slow side. Am I being unrealistic? I just feel like it's struggling slightly. Are there any patches I can download or upgrades or firmware? And another thing, what were Nokia thinking of when they only put one camera lens on a phone that has videocall function? What's up with that?!!!

what firmware is yr 6630? if its an early version then maybe a firmware upgrade will help. also do you have any applications installed that might be slowing it down? try holding the red (end call) button on the right hand side down for about 2-3 seconds or so ths will close any apps/menues that may still be working in the backround and slowing it down 😃

the first nokia with two cameras will apparently be the 6680 due for release later this yr, if you have the nokia video stand than you can make video calls but imo video calls are a gimmick at the moment its the faster download/browsing on 3G that i much prefer 😃 😃

hm... i dont think so,that this device is not fast enough.. iam very satisfied with all reaction times and with everything in this device.I don think that some firmware upgrade may "help" you, because i dont think, that your 6630 is slow... it is equipped with 220Mhz and its fast 😃 and the videocall.... Nokia was thinkign about it in that way, that the second camera may cause the higher price, that was enough high with one camera... and as i know there will be an "i" version with second camera and more internal memory. But whats more important is the fact, that videocall are made almost from home,or office and in this case its more comfortable to use an videostand.... 😃

"and as i know there will be an "i" version with second camera and more internal memory."

FIDELKO is this true!? do you have any further info on when it wil be released etc?.. 😃

Nokia dont make "i" versions of their Symbian Phones.

The phone will be superceeded in the summer most likly by the 6680 which is looking less and less like a rumour every week.

Does this actually work on the 6630?

This tip came about in the days of the 6600 and worked wonders for its speed, but I've tried it on my 6630 apparently to no effect.

Does it speed things up at all for anyone?

And about an "updated 6630", this will indeed be the 6680. O2 are claiming they'll be carrying it first: http://techdigestuk.typepad.com/tech_digest/2005/01/o2_confirms_nok.html

This is worth taking a look at too: http://nds.nokia.com/uaprof/N6680r100.xml

Judging by that official Nokia profile sheet, the 6680 will have an 18bit (262K colour) screen, run Series 60 v2.6 on top of Symbian v8.0b, and I could have sworn the last time I had a look there was mention of a new (3D) user interface, but can't see it now.

no no no... 😃 6680 is an different model and there will be an 6630i model too... on the mobile-review there were ot talking about the 6680,but about the phone with the same design and capabilties like 6630+the second camera and more memory... 6680 is something different... 😃 and if we are talking about the 6680,maybe shortly i will see some real photos, because there is one server where they are testing this phone at the moment... and yes,the resolution will be the same, only colours changed from 65thousand to 262.... 😃

I highly doubt there'll be a "6630i". The 6680 is a 6630 with a second camera, higher colour screen, more memory and small software and UI changes. It would make no sense at all for Nokia to release a "6630i" as well as the 6680. In other words, the 6680 IS the 6630i. This is what the posts on mobile-review are referring to.

i dont think so.... and they wre not talking about gňhugher colour screen... only second camera and more memory... but shortly we will see whats the real situation... maybe there will be an 6630i and 6680 too... Nokia is planning to introduce 10 Megapixel camera phones for 3G ... 😃

Which posts on mobile-review are you referring to?

Everything I've read on there just points to the 6680 being the updated version of the 6630 😉

not realy 😉 they were talking abut exactly the "i" version 😃

here it is:" In the middle of the next year a renewed Nokia 6630 will appear and it'll be equipped with the second camera and more memory".

they talked about the RENEWED 6630 and not about the 6680 😃

They always use that phrase when describing forthcoming models. For example "renewed T610 with TFT screen", which turned out to be the T630 😉

And the renewed 6630 will be the 6680 😉

but they didnt use the phrase " renewed 6630 with more colour display,or new software,or new anything... just the second camera and more internal memory... its like rumours about 6230i ... many months there were dicussion if its a rumour,or it exists.... 😃 maybe iam not roght, but only maybe... 😃

You're reading into Eldar's words too much. All he was suggesting was that there'll be a new model similar to the 6630 but with two cameras.

Again, the renewed 6630 is the 6680. Although Nokia will most probably release other 3G Series 60 handsets with dual cameras this year.

iam not reading anything too much 😃 there will be 10 3G models this year.... if the 6630i will be released,or its the 6680 i dont care 😃 but not always are the information from mobile-review correct.... 🙄 we will see in the near future, maybe some months... but 6680 is a big and ugly phone... 😃 and only two changes are no reason for bying an another handset 😃 resolution is the same and the difference between 65k and 262k is not so big and maybe you will dont feel it much... there is a great difference between 4096 and 65thousand colours, but in higher colour displays its no so big... and of course, whats more omportant is the resolution... i saw many phones with 260 colours but in bad resolution and phones with "just" 65thousand colours in a good resolution and it was nuch better.... and of course the best combination is like Sharp made its handsets,262k and in 240*320 resolution which is standard in Japan for more than a year,or two 😃 6680 will be equipped with Symbian 8.0b and i dont know where the Symbian 9.0 version will be released... 😃

Don't have much to add to this discussion , other than this 6680 is NOT a rumor (maybe thats allready been stated here i dont know)
In fact i've had this phone in my hand (mockup version,no working OS) and the guy from Nokia confirmed the 262K color screen 2 cameras and a lid for the camera like the 6650 but this lid actually covers end to end on the back (I work for Vodafone and this phone was presented among other models for their 2005 roadmap.)

Nokia have never made a "i" model of any symbian phone always new models basically making 20 new SmartPhones with one feature difference is pointless on smartphones as you can just install the apps on the other models so it wouldentw rok in the same way.

Nokia havent officially announced the 6680 yet everyone knows about it but you wont find any mention on the Nokia Website.... for this reason whenever nokia mention an "Improved 6630 with a Second Camera" they will be refering to the 6630.

Are you sure about this? Holding down the red (end call) button does not close down any apps that are working in the background on my 6630.

Doesn't work on my Nokia 6260 as well - the hold-down-red-button trick to close all background apps
