It seems that the Psion Series 5MX has gotten a second life. A company called POS LTD have announced the PSIX PDA which looks exactly like the old Series 5MX, both on looks and feature wise. There's been rumblings of this previously so we'll have to wait and see what happens.
Nice to see this old beast return, a shame they didnt upgrade it in any significant way (though the memory may have got a boost).
I hope they alter the name if they're thinking of selling this device in America... "POS" means something rather nasty over there.
For various reason, some of which are still under NDA, I've mved this news here. Having discussed this with Rafe, for the near future the PsiX PDA and POS as a whole should dnot be news posted.
Sorry chaps, can;t say any more, but we want to avoid this for the moment.
Uhm, alright. But this info (and website) is open to the public isn't it....?
It seems more than a little strange to me that POS can announce this new PDA (which definitely looks like the good old 5MX) to the public on their website with quite detailed information (see for example http://www.posltd.com/products.htm) and we're not allowed to discuss about it in this forum.
What if another forum member (not a moderator) posts this information? Do we have to delete these posts as well? If we do, we'd have to have a darn good reason for doing so.
A quick search on Google lists at least 5 different PDA sites that have this information as well and even found an entire discussion on PDA24/7 (http://www.clieuk.co.uk/forum//forum/thread/1533/). Why is AllAboutSymbian suddenly being censored?
My point exactly. I got it from another forum as well. Care to explain guys?
I'm guessing they just want it avoided as news.
We're avoiding it for a few reasons. For those of you who don't know, I used to work at POS, and I am pretty well versed on the behind the scenes of this project (I;'d appreciate that not becoming commonknowledge). Because of that, my involvement with AAS, and after discussions with Rafe, and other knowledge, I don't want ANY inference, no matter how tenuous, to connect POS to AAS. Yes even a news post. It's not really a Symbian product, it's not a Symbian licencess, at best it's a company selling a 8 year old PDA design...
There are times when NDA's kick into this site. This is perilously close to one of them.
Posting in the forum should be okay, but not News or any "official" comment from AAS Management.
Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. I won't make any comments about POS and PSIX in the forums from now on.
