Well, the wait is over, and the firmware is now out. Hurray!!

Choose the Phone Software Updates link, and that will load a window with the various versions in it.
While it is downloading, please do the following:
a) Set a SENDO BUILT IN THEME as the default theme (eg: Curves or Spiro)
b) REMOVE all other themes from the phone (they are NOT compatible any more)
c) REMOVE any fonts or other customisations you've made to the phone's default settings
d) Backup your phone to Memory Card AND via PC Connect if possible (just in case!)
e) Make sure your battery is WELL charged
f) THEN, and ONLY THEN, flash your phone
Failure to REMOVE the themes may result in the handset not booting up any more, requiring a "5" reset to clear it.

Well I was too busy updating my phone! (I actually told Kev they were on the website 😉
Make SURE you do the thing about un-installing ANY non-standard themes (read ALL OF THEM). It's VERY important in this update!
There are some fun new features in this update, especially for the Now! screen.
Keep looking at www.sendosmartphones.com for an exclusive article about some of these changes later today

Already downloaded Portuguese and French versions for flash later at home as i imagine as this news spread, the server will be slooow.
Hopefully the themes for the new version will be available later today.

Give us a little time - what with everything else, the Voda testing has got pushed to the back burner for a minute
It's just been confirmed that this firmware DOES work on Voda UK handsets!
However, PLEASE follow these instructions before doing the update:
Remove ALL installed themes. (leaving Curves and the Voda theme)
Remove ANYTHING which alters the font or any other default phone setting
Backup your phone to memory card and / or PC
Set CURVES as your default theme.
Now, finally, use the Expansys UK firmware to update your phone!
IF your phone doesn't fully reboot, turn off and on again, while holding down the 5 key to do a full format of your phone.
When you reboot, everything should now work. (all Voda customisations will be gone)

I thought this firmware would never come out, thanks Sendo.
With Sendo now in administration will we ever see the promised theme editor?
Will someone be able to leak the editor anyway if sendo can't or won't release it?
I think it would be a shame if after all this time we won't be able to easily customise the phone.
Also any news about sendo releasing the updates for the themes that were available from Sendo's website, I believe reading a while back that they had already produced them to work with the new firmware.
Considering everything that's gone on today, I can't now give any definite answers, as I simply don't know what's going to happen now.
The themes ARE done and are ready to be released. Hopefully they will still get posted onto the website, but I can't assure you of that. (if you keep your phone at the 1.98.5.2 firmware release, then all the existing firmwares are available on the Sendo Smartphones website)
It's unlikely the theme editor will ever see the light of day now, which is a great pity, as from what I've seen, it works very well.
I can't download the new firmware, because the server reset connections when download indicator reach 48% everytime! Why? Because I'm in China, or something in server wrong?
Anyone can help me or just email Expansys.exe(zip it pls) to my mailbox? Thanks a lot!
oooh just noticed 5mb of free RAM
OK done the firmware upgrade - to the letter - and now all I get is "App. closed Now! CONE 14"
Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for the reply although the old themes are very nice (especially silver lime), I'm itching to try the new firmware out, just have to wait for the phone to fully charge now.
It would be really nice if Sendo could just put everything they have for the Sendo X on their website as a thank you to all their loyal Sendo X customers including the theme editor, after all I'm not asking for the source code just the apps to use. I think this is just wishful thinking though but it would be nice.
Nice website stu, I know this is off topic but are you planning on mirroring the sendo x connect software and firmware incase sendo's website goes offline, just asking as I didn't see it on your site as of writing.

Moves are afoot which may enable us to host the latest firmware and possibly the pcConnect software as well. 😊

Reboot your phone and hold down the 5 key as you turn it on. This will do a full format of the phone.
Let me know if this fixes the problem for you.
Question to Stu or Kev: When coosing the right spn version I noticed I can only go for the German one...(and I'm Dutch btw... 😃 ) Is it possible to just install the Expansys UK or Europa trade version and have the benefits of the update, because I'd rather have an English interface...

The Dutch version wasn't officially released by Sendo on their website, due to time contraints and also due to incidents arising today. (but there IS a version with Dutch in it- there were SEVEN releases in all, only 6 hit the website)
If you don't know what I am talking about, do a google 😞
Also, the themes ARE done. See note above for the same. This has not come from the "usual" sources- they were official, though, but again, please see the notes above.

Yes, we have all 7 firmware releases. They're not quite available to download from us yet, but they are all unlocked, so any firmware will work on any phone. If you want Dutch, use the Europea_BE release.
(the one which wasn't released *isn't* the one with Dutch in it)

Have you got the USB drivers? (they're not the same as the ones for pcConnect) - they are included in the update package, so search for them in C:\SendoXUpdate
I have found that when in firmware update mode, the USB drivers may need to be re-installed as the PC recognises it as a different device.
I am getting a Download error when I try to install. The cable is not damaged (works happily with PC Connect). Drivers intalled from the Expansys download with Win XP recognising the phone which is in dowload mode. I get the same error on two PCs, the second one had never been connceted to the Sendo or any Sendo software until I copied the firmware download software. I did a *5* reset before starting. Any thoughts anyone ?
