Nokia 9210->9500 upgrade issues.

I have upgraded from a Nokia 9210 to a 9500 and have observed the following issues following the upgrade - which of these are defects I am not sure - perhaps somebody can help.

1. There is no equivilent of the 92xx 'Notes' application and files created with it cannot be read on the 9500.
Thankfully I didn't use it much.

2. The 'document's application on the 9500 handles 'text' (finally) and 'Word 97' - but what happened to the 'Word 2000' options that the 92xx had?

3. Even with the 'latest' 4.51 firmware my 9500 froze up twice on the first day I had it - any suggestions?

4. Is the a proper compatibility list of applications anywhere in this forum - I tested a number of problems from my previous phone:

Triplepop - crashes in start up.
Snake EX - crashes on start up.
Chess (Purple) - this works but the 'move display area does not look right'.
Rayman (Gameloft) - the colour palette goes green and purple and the game isn't playable (no sound).

5. Some special symbols in the keyboard I cannot access - the layout differs from that shown in the keyboard - for example I cannot find '@' or '+' or ':' and they are not listed when the 'chr' key is used.
The 9500 is a Hungarian one but used in English - perhaps the problem that that in Hungarian keyboards the '@' needs an 'alt gr' key - but the 9500 does not have one - so how do a put the 'English' keyboard layout back?
I really need help on this last point.

6. The previous 'keyguard lock' combination for other Nokia's does not seem to work and I instead need to use the 'full lock' feature.
Am I missing something here?

1. The 9210 Notes application works on the 9500. The only thing that causes it to crash on my 9500 is when I sort the entries, otherwise the application works fine.
2. Don't know what happened to the Word 2000 option. Maybe they removed it since all Word version can read Word 97 format without problems. The built in Document application can read documents created by Word 2000 and 2003.
3. Also have firmware 4.51 but my Communicator has never frozen up on me sofar.
4. Already answered
5. On my keyboard '@' is on the left of the Enter-key (Shift+'😉, ':' is to the left of this key (Shift+';'😉 and '+' is on the left of the Backspace key (Shift+=). Have you tried pressing Chr+any key to see what character comes up?
6. Press 'Menu' (round key in the center) and as soon as you see "Messages", press '*' on the front cover keypad to lock/unlock the keyboard. Works for me.

Hope this helps a little.

I did some further checking and of the issues mentioned only the keyboard issue is annoying me.

The '@' is indeed shown in the keyboard as being next to the 'enter' key but oddly the characters displayed don't match that is listed on the keys!

The mapping is as follows:

Label: '.@', When used: '.' ':' (dot, colon).
Label: ';:, When used: ',' ';' (comma, semi-colon)
Label: '#~', When used: ''' '\' (single quote, slash)
Label: '=+', When used: '?' '=' (question mark, equals)
Label: '6-', When used: '6' '#'
Label: '3', When used: '3' euro
Label: '4e', When used: '4'

This appears to be a hungarian like keyboard mapping but it has a problem:

The '@' character in a hungarian keyboard is accessed via using
the 'alt graph' and 'V' (expect the 9500 does not have this).

Is there a workaround as per the PC where you can enter the scancode
because the lack of a being able to type the '@' character in the phone
makes setting up email accounts difficult without using 'cut' and 'paste'.

You have English keyboard printout and Hungarian mapping?
The "@" sign should be on the "/" key (on the left to the joystick).

Thank you for your help - the '@' was as stated found by entering Shift+ '\'
(the key next of the joystick) - but of course the keytabs show this
instead '/ \ ?'.

I am really getting to like my 9500 now - why did so many of my colleages
switch to non-Symbian PDA's anyhow 😊

You can check the differences between Hungarian and English keyboard layouts on N9500 if you download N9500 Hungarian and English User Guides from Nokia site (the layout is displayed on page 11 or 10, respectively).
