battery level drops with firmware from sendosmartphone

hi guys, please help me out with this, before i was running firmware with the gprs bug expansys from sendo website, i had no battery problem even though it was said that there was a false battery status bug found. After flashing to new firmware from sendosmartphone with the gprs bug fixed and battery bug. i am having the problem with the battery level dropping within 5 hours to finally the set turns off. and also the irda is constantly lit on the left side.

i have formatted it before flashing it three times. but no luck, guess i have to go back to the old firmware. any other ideas would be appreciated.

Do you have a red light on behind the infra red glass?

I have a red light on all the time and my battery lasts 8 hours if I am lucky!

Mart - what are you doing next Saturday? (see stickied post in this forum)

I'd like to see that, as would *someone* from Sendo...

yes, i have a red light on all the time, thanks god for a moment there i thought that i was the only one. if you turn the irda through the menu the light turns off but for a minute and then turns on. And also i can't go back to the old firmware 198.5.2

Why can't you downgrade to 1.98.5.2?

My one will let me downgrade but it doesn't make any difference to the red light. Also the light doesn't turn off when I activate infra red...

i can't downgrade to 198.5.2 but was able to downgrade to the firmware with the gprs bug 198.8.2 but no luck still the darn red light is still on.

I trhink this is something to do with a config file, or a borked restore.

Can one of you try the following...

Backup the handset to PC or card (just to make sure)
Sync the phone's calendar / contacts to your PC
Reformat the phone by pressing 5
Re-flash with the 1.98.5.2 firmware
Reformat the phone by pressing 5
Upgrade to the 1.198.8.2 firmware
Reformat the phone by pressing 5
** See if the problem still exists. Try turning IRDA on and off a few times **
Sync the phone with the PC (now you're only missing your apps and messages)
** See if the problem still exists. Try turning IRDA on and off a few times **
Restore the backup from PC or card
** See if the problem still exists. Try turning IRDA on and off a few times **

Where does the problem go away / come back?

this is wat i get, when i try to downgrade to 198.5.2
***DOWNLOAD FAILED***

Download error has been encountered, please disconnect and reconnect the cable from your Sendo X Smartphone and press Continue to try again.
Make sure your Sendo X Smartphone is in download mode

i have formatted before flashing and after flashing. but no luck the battery drains very fast and takes nearly two and half hours to fully charge.

i would hit a restore point (if doable) before you installed the latest firmware update to your machine. or go in and manualy remove all the sendo products completely. then load the firmware pack of your choice and flash away (after you have reloaded the usb drivers of course). this problem is not so un-common when jumping version - from my perspective at least.

my spn 8y0h-01172-4x000 and i downloaded the vodafone one 198.5.2. i wanted to know that should i uninstall the usb drivers and pc connect software too

i would remove all of it personally - it is easily re0installed. this will ensure that you have a "clean" start point and there should be no problems. others may disagree... this is what has worked for me.

NO! Your phone is a Vodafone unit, therefore you HAVE to use the Vodafone release of 1.98.5.2. No others will work!

there is something weird going on cuz i have manage to flash my set with expansys uk 198.5.2 firmware the vodafone one would not alloy me to do. but i still have no luck with the old firmware cuz the irda light is still on all the time.

Have you reformatted your phone by pressing 5 as you turn it on? YOU MUST DO THIS WHEN CHANGING FIRMWARES. Do it BEFORE & AFTER you update the firmware.

I tried to do the following:

"Backup the handset to PC or card (just to make sure)
Sync the phone's calendar / contacts to your PC
Reformat the phone by pressing 5
Re-flash with the 1.98.5.2 firmware
Reformat the phone by pressing 5"

I formatted and installed update 1.98.5.2 - but when I try to turn the phone on while pressing 5 to reformat and this is what I get:

- Black screen with white sendo logo as usual
- screen goes red for about 5 seconds
- screen goes white for a couple of seconds
- phone turns off.

I'm able to start the phone up as usual without pressing 5, but the red light in the IRDA port still shines and it feels warm...

I'll try the next update (the one with the dodgt GPRS) and keep you's posted...

Okay, things are weird - I couldn't get the screen which asks you to confirm that you're about to reformat to come up and it still does the red thing mentioned above, but then I booted up normally, the phone has been reformatted.

I thought that it was time I tried the next update, but now the phone won't go into download mode. I'm doing what I always have done - hold * and turn the phone on - and guess what?:
- Black screen with white sendo logo as usual
- screen goes red for about 5 seconds
- screen goes white for a couple of seconds
- phone turns off.

Thing is, I actually managed to get to the download mode once when trying to reformat, but I didn't want to update before the reformat.

I thought maybe it was the way I was pressing the button, but I've tried various combinations of holding * first then pressing the on button, or turning it on and pressing * ASAP and also simultaneously...no luck - anybody seen this before???
