Can one of you try the following...

Backup the handset to PC or card (just to make sure)
Sync the phone's calendar / contacts to your PC
Reformat the phone by pressing 5
Re-flash with the 1.98.5.2 firmware
Reformat the phone by pressing 5
Upgrade to the 1.198.8.2 firmware
Reformat the phone by pressing 5
** See if the problem still exists. Try turning IRDA on and off a few times **
Sync the phone with the PC (now you're only missing your apps and messages)
** See if the problem still exists. Try turning IRDA on and off a few times **
Restore the backup from PC or card
** See if the problem still exists. Try turning IRDA on and off a few times **

Where does the problem go away / come back?

I tried most of this. I couldn't get any of release 60 or 50c to work. I do have an odd SPN though. I sent my phone in for repair due to dust and I recieved this in return:

8Y0H-0X171-0X001
Sample - Not For Resale

Still got the problem. I remember there being an MMC/SD card based firmware upgrade. Wondering if anyone has it so that I can test it using that. Anyone???

At the moment I have a phone which is next to useless.

As there are many (ex) Sendo employees around I was hoping one of you could give me some tools that may help. Maybe to change my SPN so that I can go back to an old firmware. Or a tool to reflash the bootstrap loader or something. ANYTHING! My next phone upgrade on my contract is in late september!

Hello Kiran Here,

If any body can tell us what to do it will be of great help for us...

So there is no need to change the battery , its the problem of firmware right....

Hi kiran,
Download expansys.exe ( English) from sendosmartphones.com.

Yes, the firmwares we have will work on ANY handset, including Vodafone branded handsets.

Sendo (or at least the ex-Sendo guys) tell me the battery meter bug is fixed, so a re-flash and a re-format using the 5 key should sort that. The IRDA bug is an odd one - it certainly doesn't happen on all handsets, but seems more common now than it used to be.

Unfortunately I haven't seen this on any of my handsets, so I can't do any testing on how to fix it.

GOOD NEWS 😃

My phone is working again. I have been meaning to open it up for a while, so when the Torx 6 screwdriver I ordered arrived today, using the guide on this forum, I did it this afternoon.

If you recall from my earlier posts, I had the issue with the IRDA port being lit constantly, no matter if the phone was charging or on - it was always lit, unless turned off and unpowered.

I tried all the updates I could, and reformatting etc, and it didn't make any difference. In fact, on the weekend, things took a turn for the worse, and I wasn't able to use my phone at all - it wouldn't turn on - couldn't even charge it - and the red light didn't even turn on.

I had almost given up hope. I thought maybe the IRDA issue caused the battery to go so low that it didn't have enough charge to start (had a similar issue with a walkman once - the batteries needed jump-started as they couldn't even charge) - I came to this conclusion as maybe the phone was using more power than what the charging was restoring.

Anyway, I had started to look around for a new phone...

Sorry about the waffling here...

I opened it up, and tried to clean things - I had issues with my mic of late (people couldn't hear me) - and I wanted to get rid of the dust under my screen.

Anyway, after putting it all back together, I thought I'd just plug it in for one last try...and guess what??? - IT WORKED!!

No IRDA issue now - in fact I charged the phone for about 15 mins, and got 3/4 of the battery back - according to the indicator - this wasn't possible a week ago...

So, as I suspected, it looks like this issue is in fact hardware related. That would explain why only a small % of people have had the problem - not a software issue.

Give it a try and see if anyone else can get there's working...

GPRS is working and txting seems to (no credit, but got one from Vodafone telling me I needed to top up).

One other note - I've had this issue for a few weeks now - when I go to charge the phone when it's turned off, rather than getting the charge screen, the screen goes white, then I get the sendo screen (black and white) and it turns off. This happens in a loop.

Because of this, I now always keep my phone on when charging. I tried turning it off there to see if that issue is resolved, but it's not - in fact this is what happened:

- Turned phone off
- Disconnected power
- Reconnected power to test charging
- IRDA light gave a quick flash
- white screen
- sendo screen
- off - and the cycle continues (witout the IRDA stuff).

Could this be an initialisation of the IRDA?

I'll do some more checking to see if this happens everytime...

...Nope - the IRDA flash only seems to happen after you have the phone turned on first, and then turn it off, and try to charge it...anyone noticed this?

I'm very pleased that things are working pretty well...how long will it last?!?!?!

Do you have Agile Messenger installed?

It's known to cause a charging loop (not just in the X, but in other S60 devices as well) - basically it tries to start up some processes while in the reduced boot mode which the X uses for charging. This then crashes that reduced boot mode, so the phone tries to restart.

The only solution is to use an old version of Agile Messenger (the one on SendoSmartphones.com should work) or to uninstall it, or leave the phone on when charging.

Yes, I'm using version 3.57 - I'll check out the one from SendoSmartphones - thanks for the advice!!

(Excuse my ignorance - I tried to find it there, but couldn't - Could you let me know where on the site it is? Or tell me what the good version is? - Cheers! 😉 )

What do you mean with "hardware related"? It has happened after flashing, I dont understand.
What have you exactly done inside to clean the things?

Ya thanks for the consern... I will try loding it...

zombie, let me clear this out.the problem is with the new firmware(bug fixed).i had the same problem the very next day i upgraded my firmware .i downgraded to the release 60 vodafone firmware, then back to the one without the bugfix and again to tha vodafone.i restored my backup and after 2 or 3 hrs, the red light switched off.now i am sure bcoz this is the second time i have done this.the first time i succesfully got the irda light off , i switched back to the bugfixed firmware an the light started glowin again. Also i have noticed that i had kept sendo pinball runnin in tha background whan the red light illuminated(both the times) .i dont know if its someway related but ill test that again this weekend.so pls bacup ur phone and then do as i did .hope this will help u.

Hi,

Sorry for this to be my first post, but I have the same problem.
Everything worked fine with my SendoX, battery life was ok (day or two) and I didn't notice the IrDA lit at all.

I went to upgrade the firmware and followed the instructions for backing up, resetting (holding down '5' at startup) and upgraded the firrmware to the expansys.exe one. Now, the IrDA light it constantly lit and the battery lasts only a couple of hours.

*#0000# gives me:
X 1.198.8.2
Release IG
19-May-2005

If there is any more information anyone can provide about how to switch the IrDA off (there only seems to be an option to switch it on within the phone menus), or if I can provide any info to anyone to help fix this I'd appreciate it.

I'm happy to buy a Torx 6 and take my phone apart if it'll help at all.

Cheers,
Rich

Let me make a couple of things clear... the firmware (1.198.8.2) is not "Sendo Smartphones' firmware" - it is an official Sendo release, but due to them going into administration, it was not posted on their website, it was posted on Sendo Smartphones.

The battery drain problem is not a bug in itself. It is due to a configuration bug in the latest firmware, which on SOME handsets means IRDA is permanently turned on. This in turn causes the battery to die rapidly.

We at Sendo Smartphones ARE trying to work on a solution for this problem, however, we don't have a handset which exhibits this behaviour. That, tied in with the fact that Sendo no longer exist to give us any assistance or access to the firmware files, means that finding a solution is very awkward and time consuming.

If someone wants to lend us a handset which exhibits this bug, we will gladly do what we can to find you a resolution.

To sum up - it's not our fault! Rather than putting us down for making the firmware available, plesse help us to resolve this issue!

Thank you for your hard working

I'm sorry the post wasn't meant to attack sendosmartphones in anyway.. just wanted to say that it came with that firmware.. furthermore i noticed that during the update process (updating firmware) the irda led is on!! .. even if the battery is out and you only put the plug of the charger in to the handset the irda blinks a few times, the flash of the camera too.. may this helps you..

btw. where are you located at so i maybe can send you my phone if the costs for shipping aren't too high!

best regards z3p

This bug seems to be related to the devices which have the MP3 bug as well.

Obviously something went wrong while updating the X. The flashmem seems not to be overwriten a 100%.

I myself have the IR bug and the MP3 bug now.

I'll investigate that further as i have access to all the late Sendo X firmwares and SDK 😉 As a former beta tester I should find it (hopefully), but don't expect it to be done within some days ...

@Stuart

Your site is down due to traffic issues, what about uploading firmware to megaupload/rapidshare?

I would like to help you, but my site is on it's limit, too. As i wrote mobile tests and already have 180 MB space filled, i have a large amount of traffic, too.

On the other side we should face the fact, that the X is dead. I need the sources/packer for the firmware 😃

Ok i dont mean to piss on anyones bonfire about this but i now have this bug where the ir light is one and the battery wont charge, but for me the cause of this is unknown. i have been using my phone for months without updating firmware or installing any extra software, but two days ago my battery died so i put my phone on charge overnight. took it of charge in the morning and within minutes the battery was dead again. i was begining to beleive i had a faulty battery untill i noticed the IR light was allways on. so how does this relate to the usual firmware upgrade / installing new software explanations that are being given when i have not installed anything or upgraded in months?

Hi! I too have have the same IRDA problem in some phones & wanted to know if youhave the old 52 version with you and is it possibl for you to share it with me?

The 1.98.52 firmwares are SPN locked, so you need the correct firmware for your phone. (for example, an Expansys firmware won't work on a Vodafone branded phone)
