So close to buying SPV... can't decide!

17 replies · 3,870 views · Started 11 November 2002

I'm about this <-> close to ordering an SPV from Orange, but i just can't decide!

A today screen! More memory! An MP3 player! It's smaller! MSN Messenger! Tri-band! Amazing games! A speakerphone that works!

All for 29.99 (smalltalk.co.uk)

BUT then again, my 7650 has bluetooth, great sms handling, a camera, it's unlocked for any network and a really friendly forum!

BUT, without bluetooth audio I can live with Irda, the camera isn't great and I have a 'real' digital one, once i'm with Orange I probably won't want to change my network again.

Ohhhhh... why am I still drawn to the 7650 then?! Must be this bloody forum! 😃

LOL!, I can't see there being a MS Smatphone forum anytime soon, so the choice is yours.

But ask yourself, could you really live without us?

Don't make this any harder than it already is! 😃

Seriously though, have none of you been tempted by the charms of the SPV? Her curves, features, support and price are so damn good! Maybe if Angela (girlfriend) was to leave i'd have room for both the SPV & the 7650. Hmmm....

You dont have to leave us if you decided to buy a SVP.......then we will have someone to take the piss 😊

Yeah we can point and laugh. We can be there when it all fails horribly... and some can commisserate and everyone else can laugh even more...

Seriously though if you want to do it go for it. But I'd wait and compare it to the P800 if I were you.

Actually you're going to wait either way since your wait for the P800 or see lots of hourglasses if you use the SPV.

Rafe

Stick with Symbian, might be worthwile waiting 4 the P800.

They need to re-design the SPV with only 3 buttons on the key pad
CTRL- ALT- DEL :fadein: :fadein:

omar_g, are you seriously going for the MS Smartphone 2002? I mean a company like Sendo have decided not to.....I think they know what they are doing! You have to consider that software support is minium to not existant.....and I dont believe that what Michael for my-symbian.com says about porting and stuff! Porting is easy in all platforms...and the lack of Java? I mean just think of it!

If you buy the SPV, will you be keeping your 7650 too, or selling it?

I could forgive you for buying as well as, but to completely disregard the 7650 in favor of M$ is just plain wrong!

Seriously though, I'd wait and see what happens before jumping in at the begining, you never know it may end up being a Dead End Platform (Bring it on PPC :2gunfire: :usa )

😃 You guys crack me up!

I'll probably keep the 7650 and have a SPV too. Then i'll decide which to keep. I'll get my "unlimited" GPRS for 6 months, try it in both phones then decide. Maybe...

Then again, too much bulk to carry around and Orange may not give me a third contract without a hefty deposit. Then again, again, i'm still within 14 day money back on my new T68i.... so many options!

Take a look at this link, just what one developer has managed to get out of the SPV before it's even released... Doom for PocketPC runs without any modifications, as do a lot of finance programs.. two of the things i'm after!

In case you don't even want to look at Smartphone applications, the link also has version for Symbian phones, coming soon! They all look very tasty indeed.

Is it jsut me or are all the games on that site....Comming soon....Well to be honest I am fed up with coming soon! (see P800)

Well that means you gonna buy the SPV and play Doom....

I dont want to even start talking abou the T68i!
You have to consider that software support is minium to not existant.....
There is not much software for SPV, but those that are at
www.handango.com/orange-cobrand are so typically bloated Windows programs! The download packages range from 200kB to 700kB! Whoa! What takes so much space? Do they have Visual Basic runtimes inside or what?

Hmm.. i know how you feel Omar man.

but a word of advice, you don't wanna leave this forum! I mean, im so addicted to it! Thank god i have a 7650 to talk about! But even so, you don't have to have anything to talk about, just log on and talk! You won't lose anyone or anything by buying something, do what you want, but be sure to do it right!

Take advice (you did that) you get one point. 😊
And man don't buy alotta phones! (they need a pack of Panadol/Asprin to go around with them, and studying your every step so you dont' crick or crack that damn thing you payed for!

AS for me:

I'm in a big whirpool! So much to buy, so little time, and money!

No matter what i buy, i'm gonna be in this forum more than ever!

I think about it everyday, buy this or that? or maybe IT!

AHHHHHHH! I'm not buying anything anymore! Blast the wirless market!

(then again, what would i do?)

😃

I got the T68i free, and i get 50% off line rental and 33% off add-on's (MMS, WAP, SMS, GPRS, HSCD) so i didn't really pay for it as such! I even get paid 50 to take the contract so that sort of pays for a few months line rental! The SPV, I would have to pay for, although the rental discount still stands.

Actually you're going to wait either way since your wait for the P800 or see lots of hourglasses if you use the SPV.

😃 You know, that's actualy something that worries me, at the Orange launch of the SPV last month it did seem to lag when opening programs. Because nothing is part of the O/S as such (SMS software, MSN, Outlook, Tasks etc etc.) there was lag on EVERYTHING! Orange staff claim that it's sorted though on the release version.

I'm really put off by the fact that the SPV dissconnects from GPRS when the phone goes into standby mode. Always on MSN Messenger is not really an option. Would have saved me a fortune on SMS/Short phone calls. MSN will be released this week (fingers crossed) for 7650 with always on access so that maybe a better option. The SPV also can't add words to the T9 dictionary. BUT, it has a today screen and that's something i've always wanted since I sold my PocketPC a couple of years back. MP3 player/Web broswer/MSN Messenger/MMC slot/Speakerphone/30/tri-band/smaller/loads of software support (I honestly think you guys are kidding yourselves if you don't think the support for Smartphone will surpass Symbian- short term at least) That's a lot of bonus points... 😃

spv has add on camera so not too bad

im waiting for a few months i got 2 upgrades due soon but need to see what applications and games will be available for spv.

was planning to sell 7650 and get 3650 dont care about the looks just want 128mb! camcorder app records sound too! wooooooohooooooo 😊

but want the p800 eventually at a reasonable price.
