Following Russ' comments about how Symbian OS made developing so hard, Steve reviews the "Mobile Phone Programming" DVD. You'll have "Hello world" up and running in an hour, but you'll need C++ experience to go further!
Write your first Symbian application in 24 hours?

Again with the C++ Mastership required. What about all of us home programmers that just want to potter around with things without laying out for CodeWarrior or it's Mac equivalent?
There are free tools. The Symbian SDKs are free. There's also a free version of Borland C++ Builder or BuilderX for Symbian/Series 60 development (Microsoft Visual Studio or CodeWarrior cost something). You can also use Eclipse and only command line tools without Borland/Microsoft/CodeWarrior at all, but then you'll unfortunately not have a PC based emulator, but must test always using a phone.
There are also a bunch of free tutorials, white papers, code examples, etc., which you find on http://www.newlc.com, http://www.symbian.com/developer, http://forum.nokia.com/symbian, etc.

This isn't a bad thing. Admittedly I've been working in OPL, but I do all my testing on the target device. Nothing that says you have to compile for WINS.....
8-)

It's starting to look like OPL is the way forward for me, given that I'm using a Mac. Can someone point me in the direction of an OPL kit for the 9300?
