6682 sending international text msgs

Greetings! Anyone experience this problem sending sms/text messages to friends living overseas? To be precise, I'm in the US (Cingular customer) trying to text someone in Italy. When I just use her contact information in the phone - where the number is entered with the "+" code before the country code - the message never arrives. On the other hand, if I manually enter her number - using "00" before the country code - she gets it. Clues?

I didn't have this problem with my SonyEricsson T68i, which I'm migrating away from now that I've got the (pretty cool, I think) Nokia 6682.

Many thanks.

PS. (This edit added 09oct 7:30amEDT) I mis-typed the successful phone number sequence in original posting. I entered "011" before the country code. (I must have been wishfully thinking I was in Italy sending an SMS to a friend in dreary Washington!)

i have nearly the same problem. i cant send any overseas mms i live in spain, its because im told they have no roaming agreement i am on contract. but i know for a fact years ago i could send and receive mms overseas when i was pay as you ago, i wonder if its because its all now 3g it was not then

Jac57, I don't know about problems sending MMS. We Americans are still trying to figure our basic text messaging! But if I learn something about int'l mms that might be able to help you, I will let you know. A dopo!

Am using T-mobile USA (6680) and have no problems sending international texts either here or when roaming in Europe, using the + and country code, e.g. +442081234567 for UK or +33412345678 for France.

Burcrim, thanks. Good to know at least one of the 6600 series works, on tmobile anyway. Let's see if any 6682 owners on Cingular can confirm your good experience.
