Help Getting a 7650 in the US?

17 replies · 3,030 views · Started 14 November 2002

Hi Everyone,
I am working on a project for a college class and need to get a hold of a 7650 or 3650 for the project. Obviously, being a college student I have a limited budget, but I am willing to pay for a phone if necessary. Can anyone out there help me get ahold of one of these phones? If so, please let me know ASAP. Thanks!

Well maybe he can modify it, i know that "1" in this forum has a modified 8910 that works in USA, but he got it straight from nokia as a special version, dunno about modifying it yourself..

Yeah your right. but since he can't use it in US.. well that goes to his decision

But i'm an outlaw! I got my 7650 with no warranty, big risk, but nothing happend.... YET

😃

True.. you have nothing to loss... :silly: hi^5 to you! 😃

If you have a spare I know a good home for it 😉

I know the 3650 isn't available yet, but I was hoping there were prototype phones out there somewhere that I could get ahold of for development. I also know that the 7650 doesn't work in the US, but I thought I could still use it without service just to demonstrate my application. Do you know if the phone will function to do this without service in the US? If so, I hope one of you can point me in the right direction for obtaining one. Thanks!

switchme.....just a suggestion!!!

If you need a 7650 or 3650 to demonstrate an application that you are developing why dont you use the Nokia 7650 simulator to demonstrate your new application????

An if your project needs more evidence of your application working..then I am sure that few of us at this forum can run the application and give you screen shots or even video footage of your application running on the Nokia 7650!!!

I am currently using the emulator, but there are two reasons why I want a phone to use. 1. The application needs to receive bluetooth data and I have seen that this is not possible using the emulator. I've seen things say that it can only send bluetooth data. If you can tell me otherwise and point me in the right direction then maybe I will stick with the emulator. 2. I am supposed to demonstrate a fully functional system for the project, so I figured it would be more impressive if I demonstrated on an actual phone instead of people seeing it working on a laptop and wondering if it would even work on a real phone. However, if I can't get one of the phones then the emulator might be my only option. I'm interested in your thoughts....

if you're developing a series60 app then nokia may help you? large companies are generally quite good at helping out for college/uni work. what goes around comes around and all that. maybe try and contact nokia?

I need a phone that runs Symbian OS and is bluetooth enabled. I thought the 7650, 3650, and SonyEricsson P800 were my only options....?

im sori sir but im not really that sure but you can check this out for the new models here in asia

nickprice, do you have any hints for how to best get in touch with Nokia? I have tried many times at their main number, but cannot reach anyone. I really need the direct name and phone number of someone there. Any help would be appreciated!

Those are your only choices, and of the three only 7650 at the moment. I'd buy one from www.ebay.co.uk if I were you (If Nokia won't release one). You can usually pay by paypal and the site can convert the prices into dollars for you automaticaly.

It will work without reception but you'll need a sim card to put in it to get it to turn on. I'm not 100% sure if it has to be 900/1800mhz or if any will do. Either way, you can obtain a cheap UK pay as you go sim card for a couple of pounds on ebay.

Not sure how much use any of these will be. got them from the nokia site. I recommend writing to (and/or phoning) the nearest office to you (contact them first if you're writing to find out who you should address the leeter to), explain exactly what you're doing and why you need a test phone. Remember to say that you need it for educational purposes. i.e. to help you with your dissertation/coursework. It's probably worth a shot, as long as you make it clear you don't just fancy a free phone.
