Hello! I'm new here. I have a problem with my 7650.
Please check this out.I have 173 records in my contacts, using 115kb.
Eveytime I delete a contact, the Kb used increases.
My brother also has a 7650 and after adding and deleting contacts several times,
he ended up with 56 contacts using 430Kb.
The Kb used will only be reset if all the contacts will be marked and deleted.
Same with the messages. Any explanations? Solutions?
Contacts mem usage problem
No explanation but a similar problem. My contacts has about 120-130 entries and weighs in at 330k! About 12 of them have thumbnails
Yeah i've had several problems with contacts, they always take space, even when theres none!! I'm sure i read about the contacs somewhere in this forum, i can't remember where, maybe in the FAQ? :-?
162 contacts, 331KB used.... if i add a contact mem usage increases, if i delete the same contact it stays the same - doesn't increase but doesn't decrease...
I believe one of the ways to get around this is to sync them with Outlook.
I'm sure I read about it somewhere else on the web, I will see if I can find it again. I know I sync my Contacts with outlook and I have 82 contacts all with addresses and email/phone some with notes, about 3 with thumbnails and it is only taking 49kb. 😃
Bearing in mind Symbion OS 6 is based on Psions Epoch OS, databases ie: contacts dont delete the actual contact data until the file is compressed. On epoch you could compress the file manually which removed the redundant entrys.
The phone compresses the contacts itself. But it does not happen right away.
Sometimes you have to wait a few days for it to happen. And you must not
change the contacts in that time. 😃
Maybe more info on FAQ, look it up.
i'm also synching with outlook... didn't check though if the unneeded, used space from deleted contacts frees up on sync... another idea would be to move your contacts to a different folder insideoutlook, -> have your folder used for synching empty, sync - ergo delete the contacts on the phone, move the contacts from the other folder back, resync and have all of them on the phone again.... -> create some sort of new db file on the phone... question is: what happens to thumbnails, groups,...?
As I understand it the syncing software keeps a record of the outlook ids and the nokia contact ids, information which cannot be saved in outlook, is only stored on the nokia. When you sync, the contact db on the nokia is read off against the ids linked with outlook, those that match and have changed update and those that have been deleted are purged. The final action appears to be a compression of the file. I sync both contacts and calendar about once a day so mine stays small 😊
[quote="blue"]... information which cannot be saved in outlook, is only stored on the nokia....

that's the worst thing about contacts... those infos could be stored in outlook... say a image could be attached to a contact, the group information from the phone could be mapped to the group-field in outlook...
and YES, syncing after deleting a contact on the phone frees up some space... so sync often... 😊 thanks for the hint!
Thanks for the quick replies!
i think is the calls logs that making this problem, try to set to no calls log n try..
Yeah the call logs do take some space, and they make some menus slower from my experience
This is true, when you modify the Contacts (Including Delete), your memory used in the Contacts will increase or stay the same, this will reduce after a few days, for some weeks.
I'm not entirely sure why it does this, maybe it keeps them in a purge bin or something, but it isn't anything to worry about this will decrease given time.
Other way to decrease contact I find is tying to modify most of the contacts. For example: If you create groups, you can change groups' ring tone same or if you wish other rings, then you will see the contacts size is decreased after adding a new contacts and/or tumbnails. However, sometimes it works on the other way, you can see the size of contacts will increased. Try to select large groups or tyr to do this operation 2 times. I tyr this 2 times, my contacts was decreased 349Kb to 216KB. It works..!
It really works now ...... thanks magic ... before my Mem for contact is 506kb ... its been 4 month i wait for the system to rest by not updating any info at all ...... Malebuffy suggest me that ...... but today i try to assign one of the contact name to my existing group ... then walla .. my contact now shrink to 225kb .... fuh .. realy happy now 😃 😃
you're welcome MaxiMuS... my contact's first size was 440KB and shrink to 216KB... By the way, you gain much more space...greaattt...
Gr8 magic
can anyone tell me how to keep a copy of contact other that outlook ?
even if u have only outlook express,it will work.
The Suite will not find outlook, but even compress the memory.
Smi and his :robot: 😉
If u use NameSwap and swap all your contacts 2 times u defrag all your contacts... And if u use stacker 3.0 there is a contact defraging option inside... Sooo simple...
