if so what can i expect,, if there are problems what are they, does any of the menus in tom tom 5 mobile not work on the phone?? or are there any glitches i need to be aware of??

Hi does anyone know how to install the tom tom mobile 5 software on the memory card. Ive got the 256mb dv rs mmc card and a nokia 6630. Please help. Ive got a business trip to France and i need to go by card next saturday. Thanks. Please help. please reply to [email protected]. Thanks again.

After many problems i have finally got my Tom Tom 5 working on my N70, so i'm posting this in the hope that it helps a few people. Their were a couple of things i was doing wrong.

Firstly version 5 of tt5 does not work with the n70, and if it does performance is poor. You need to get version 5.2, on the 5.2 update select nokia n90, as n70 is not listed.

Also you cannot transfer the software to your memory card using the nokia data cable, you must use a card reader, as the system file doesn't copy properly.

Finally make sure in connectivity on your phone, there are no bluetooth connections established, if their are, delete them. Then run tom tom and let tom tom find the bluetooth connection and set it up within the software. You may need to leave the phone and receiver for a couple of minutes to find a valid signal. I have read in some forums that you need to have your phone in offline status, if you follow these instructions you shouldn't need to.

Hope this helps

I have installed the 5.2 version on my 1gb card (That is easy because I use one MMC for everything and now including tomtom)

It works but the only "problem" is that I always have to go via FExplorer. In there I have to go to my folders and choose "ttmobile.app" to start it. But do you maybe now how to get it started outside FExplorer. Maybe place a shortcut or copy the file somewhere else so it comes in my phone where all the others apps are placed.

If you've installed it correctly, the TomTom icons should appear in the 'My Own' folder of your N70's menu.

But I copied the files to my 1gb mmc and placed them on the correct place on my phone using FExplorer. But what I noticed is that I don't see any shortcut somewhere on the phone, even when I go to the place where you delete software it isn't there. Only in FExplorer I can access system folders and launch TomTom 5.2 in "E:\System\Apps\TTMOBILE\Ttmobile.app"

So I was thinking that it is possible to copy that file to somewhere else on the phone to create a shortcut that comes e.g. in "my own" folder.

I am currently on contract with orange and i am thinking of upgrading to the nokia n70 so i can put tom tom on the phone what do i need apart from the phone to make this work? where do you get the gps reciever from does it come with the phone? im confused any info would be great cheers

What you can do is to buy on ebay or so a seperate GPS receiver. Or when you buy tomtom mobile you get a complete package.

Good afternoon, just a quick hi,i have just joined the forum after buying a Nokia N70 yesterday, and i have been getting used the difference between the old xda i had and the N70.
Ok a question i have bought TomTom Mobile and a 1GB card and installed as via the instructions onto the card,it says i should find a tomtom start icon in my programe menu, well ive looked all over but nothing,i have also just read somewhere that if i transfered the programe from the installation disc using the Nokia data cable it may not work and i should use a card reader,im wondering if this is the problem.
Any body help a novice please, and suggest a way ropund my problem.
Sorry for the long post and i hope ive posted in the right area.
Thx
Nige😊

Good evening,i reinstalled tomtom to the mmc card and hey presto its apperaed in a folder on my N70,managed to bond with a bluetooth receiver and all seemed well for a while but then everything looked up and i had to reset my phone,i have heard that the TMobile software causes this and they dont have a new version available yet,so i think i will take the phone back and maybe change networks to either o2 or vodaphone
thanks for your help

Its not just t-mobile having problems with tomtom.
By all accounts reading a few posts on here the latest nokia generic firmware release is meant to be the best but watch out using that cos that fw could make your warranty void.

Some say it is because of tomtom, some say it is because of the firmware on the N70 but I read that the newest firmware (V5) doesn't make difference or doesn't make big difference.

I got a 3rd party GPS receiver FUZION and it takes very long to search for satelites or it only find 1. When I change the settings in TTmobile and take the TomTom mkII gps receiver it connects in seconds with 5 satelites.
The same goes for my TomTom Navigator 5.2 on my ipaq PDA. I connect the 3rd party receiver with it and it doens't find anything at all or just 1.
Strange that it is such a big difference with the original TomTom receivers and the 3rd party receivers.

Info from Bear via email:

Probably the biggest difference in the 'original GPS' [actually it's OEM] receiver and other cheaper ones,
is the GPSantenna that is being used.
If you open up the offical TT GPS receiver you will see that it uses the antenna from Sarantel, which is one of the best GPS antenna's. This antenna is circular instead of the most common flat ones.
It can be compared to the older GSM antenna's on the Ericsson GF768 and other older models for example.

This antenna seems to be able to receive signals much better on several occasions. It does not really have UP and DOWN side, and works very good even when it's close to your body. This antenna is also widely used in personal tracking systems...

Yip, they certainly do but as of yet the TomTom Navigator 6 software only runs (officially) on the Nokia E61 and (unofficially) on the N73, N80 and N93 after muchos messing around. 😡

No N70 support JUST yet but TomTom mobile 5 works just dandy after the new firmware update!

I've installled TT successfully on my Nokia 6680 and works perfectly - didi have one or two problems installing it, but sorted those out quickly.

BTW - this was TT software bought off Ebay for 3! I bought a GPS receiver for around 50.

I then installed it onto my mate's N70, and it initially worked fine, but he's having problems with it now, in so much that the phone just freezes up and stops working. Only solution is to re-boot which then also re-boots TT and all starts to work again ( sounds similar to the problem posted by Big Andy ) .

Any immediate solutions to this? His N70 is on Orange so dunno if that firmware version might contribute to matters?

Try install again. N70n is superior to 6680, on, at least, the most important thing for TT, memory. So, should work without major problems.

nottmbantam, to solve ALL your TomTom N70 issues just update the firmware using the new Nokia tool.

Hi What is this new Nokia tool?

I am still having problems with TTM v 5.2000(443) GPS Driver 1.20 and map is Great Britain Plus map v571
firmware version on my phone is 5.0609.2.0.1

Are there any suggested fixes?

The problem is dropping BT connection all the time and also locks up occasionally.

Also, how do I update the maps as mine appear to be really old and only yesterday took me up a bus only route..
