 OK... I know this is asking alot from you guys... but can you help me in making a decision... 😊

😞 As you already may know my Nokia 7650 has STILL not arrived from mobilerepublic.co.uk coz T-Mobile are having serious stock problems...

8) mobile repupublic have given me 2 options:

1) I get the Nokia 7650 for free on an Orange (UK) Tarrif, which is 30 a month {a bit too much for my liking... but free fone 😃 }

OR

2) I get the Orange SPV for free on an orange tarrif (25.50 a month). Its new and its based on Smartphone 2002... Its more expandable then the 7650 and has a faster processor so it can run better things... all the fucntionalities that Nokia 7650 users have to download (IM+, WebView, PVideo, mail... etc..) are native to this device {in some form or other)... It has a MMC/SD slot for an extra 32MB of memory and it has an Ir port for connectivity... its Tri-Band... which is very useful coz I often go to the States (USA)... It has an attatchable camera that comes FREE with the package... a USB cable system to dock with your PC {Saves me running around for a 50 bluetooth adaptor that probably wont work}...

It seems like a better deal to me... but im worried about the OS.. its microsoft for god sake... will i get the "blue screen of death"? I know Symbian rules.. but I can't wait for the 3650 to come out... coz I wont be able to afford it.. im a student in London.. i spend half my time begging on the streets... I have tend to therefore go for freebies 😃

Ive looked everywhere... theres TONNES of reviews they all say that its a great fone but with a few glitches {that they can iron out with software updates and service packs... typical of microscoff}... and that its feature packed... plus Orange are offereing a "Free Data" Package where you pay 6 a month extra (on top of your monthly standard charge) and you get unlimited GPRS data download! Which is also quite cool.. plus they are doing free MMS as well... {all for the 1st 3 months}

The biggest downside {other than the Microscoff problem} to this fone is that it doesnt natively support Java ME! Which will mean there won't be much freeware stuff available... probably overpriced microscoff sh*t! But they could add Java capabillity to it..? Probably in Service Pack 4

I dunno ? Help me make a decision! Please please please!!

I knew i could rely on you lot! 😉

Thanx in advance as always 😃 !

WAIT FOR THE 7650!!

Nah, it's upto you what you buy, the SPV can be tempting but I wouldn't buy it personally.

BTW: The 3650 is likely to be cheaper than the 7650 on release 😃

Izzo.

if i were u i choose the 7650

cos i think 7650 more user customisable

as for spv i think it's just almost like a usual phones outhere

but 7650 memory is very limited

or maybe wait for the p800 or 3650 😃 😃 😃

yeh... but the thing is compared to the stuff thats coming out right now the N7650 is lacking the technology... I would love to get my hands on an N3650 or a SE P800 but I dont think I have that kind of money... coz I can both SPV and N7650 for free right now! Thats the problem you see...

However I was expecting everyone to tell me to buy a N7650... considering it is a N7650 forum !!! :P

get the 7650 tommorow

u won;t regret it

and this is the best choice in the world 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃

I was after an SPV until I tried one yesterday.

All of the Orange stores in the UK have been sent a demo model to keep pre-order customers happy as there is delay in getting them out to stores.

It is nice but there is serious lag between opening an application and it being displayed on screen. This got on my nerves even after just 5 minutes with the thing. It's also very thick and the battery has got to be one of the ugliest things ever. 😊

If a little bit of lag doesn't bother you then I would definatly buy one, as it's great in almost every other way.

A word of warning though:

I would cancel your order with Mobile Republic, they don't have the best reputation. They also won't be getting SPV's in stock for at least a week, but I bet they didn't mention that? Orange stores won't get them until end of next week, Orange Direct dealers get them a few days after, and other dealers (CPW, The Link) are telling their customers the end of november first week in December. I can't see Mobile Republic being before any of these?

For the SPV I reccomend: www.smaltalk.co.uk
For the 7650 I'd suggest either www.mobileshop.com or www.scancom.co.uk

All cheaper and more reliable than Moble Republic.

Don't be forced onto a higher tariff to get a cheaper phone, you can't change back down for 90 days so you'll be stuck paying more for 3 months.

Advice is what you ask for when you already know the answer to a question but wish you didn't. 😃

I can't wait for the 3650 to come out... coz I wont be able to afford it.. im a student in London.. i spend half my time begging on the streets... I have tend to therefore go for freebies 😃

If you can afford now the SPV, then for sure you can afford 3650 which will be much cheaper.

plus they are doing free MMS as well...

If you plan to use MMS, then forget SPV, that phone is not meant for MMS:

- The camera is quite difficult to use, there is no Camera menu like in 7650, and the pictures can be taken only when composing MMS or something like that.
- The little camera is not very convenient to carry around all the time, so *most probably* you will not have it with you when you will need it most 😊

The biggest downside {other than the Microscoff problem} to this fone is that it doesnt natively support Java ME

Even a bigger drawback is the slowness of the device... after you tried a 7650 😃 I suppose M$ can fool only people who don't know the things can be better on a Symbian device 😊

And last one: why would someone want to buy the new betamax? :-?

I wasn't sure about getting a 7650 originally (i was after the 8910 but it was taking ages to come out) but I'm glad I did get it in the end! 😃

Just a few points to consider:

1. - M$ are anti java - It will be very unlikely that they would choose to add this to there phone (it would make good business sense - but M$ are rich/supid enough to put grudges over good business sence). You may find someone else develop a JVM for it but see point 2.

2. - M$ never share all of their source code (This may be the reason Sendo jumped ship). This makes it much harder for the companies making the phones to give you cool gadgets and harder for the developers writing software to use the gadgets. Compare this to the Symbian/Nokia platform where you have full access to all the core libraries (like bluetooth and camera) even you bedroom programmer. This makes me believe that there will be more cool apps and games coming out for the 7650 than a M$ phone.

3. - Nokia have a good track record with phones. Microsoft don't. To be fair to them they may do a good job, but at the moment they're an unknown (with a lot of money)

Hope this helps
