This thread included a poll: Which GPS Reciever do you use with Tom Tom, do you get any dropping connection issues

After a mammoth struggle i finally managed to get TOM TOM on my N70 and after reading all the posts here. I am really not sure if this is going to work at all... i will try it out this weekend and see if this causes me a problem. Does anybody know if the TOM TOM will work on a Nokia 7610 please?

Hello All, I'm using the Smartcom GPS with Nokia N80 and Nokia LD-3W GPS module. I have exactly the same problem as most of you in this thread. Dropping connections to GPS. This is not just a Tom Tom issue. I have had the same problem with other GPS software. No help form Nokia as usual!

I use the Meetrend MT1110 with my official copy of Route 66, since upgrading to 5.0616.2.03 I've had no bt connetion issues.

I have an N70 used in conjunction with a Parrot 3400 ls gps, I was having the same issue dropping the connection every 10- 20 minutes. I upgrade the firmware on my n70 to5.0609.2.0.1 this has partialy fixed in that now when it drops connection it reconnects nromal within 2 mins. To me it appears the problem is definitely the N70 either a problem with BT handling 2 connections at the same time or as previously posted holding the BT connection while roaming for signals.

Hi All,

I manage to solve the problem with TomTom 5 dropping the connection with GPS via bluetooth

It took some time. First of all I upgraded TomTom to 5.20, than I upgraded Firmware in N70 to 3.x than, as it did not work, I upgraded to 5.x but still no hope 😞

TomTom 5.20 + N70 5.x did not solve the problem,

ONLY: removing POIs solve the problem. After disabling all POIs I manage to have 10 hours drive with no single connection drop!!!! (before it was 1 drop / 5 minutes)

My GPS is Pretec Datalogger GPS and I worked 100% problemfree with 6680 and 6600 only N70 started to have problems but hopefully disabling POIs helps

I get the same drop-out of GPS signal but came across a way to re kick the GPS:

press 5 then 6, 6, 6, 1 this will take you to the GPS status page (with the signal reading bars), then almost all of the time it re-kicks the link between the unit and N70 within 5 to 10 seconds.

I would like to find a long term solution so save doing this though.. I have updated the firmware via Nokia web site and updated the TomTom to 5.20 still dropsout though..

Any other thoughts ? Posted links would be ideal..

Hi guys. Just want to put my 2 p😊

I have seen a lot of forums where people have tons of problems with n70, tt5 or tt5.2 software and receivers.
Honestly, I don't want to buy gps for my n70 until will know that I'll have no problems with that.
So, this is a main question.
Which soft/hardware works with n70 without any problems and Is it possible to find it????
The best source of this equipment for me is EBAY.
Honestly, I want to spend less money, as possible( I mean cracked software on mmc card and cheap bt or other receiver).

I'll be very appreciate for any information(facts, ideas, links).
Together we can sort out this problem

I also found this status page reset trick works.

However, I just upgraded to TT 5.2 and drove 300 miles from Preston to Kings Lynn and didn't lose connection once (apart from trees/clouds/usual satellite interference).
This was on my mate's TomTom receiver though, not my usual Fuzion GPS.

I have only tried it on a 70 mile run with my Fuzion receiver but it only dropped once - and no bomb outs and unable-to-restarts though.
So I'm a little happier.

Still not ideal though.

Edit: 19/1/07 Forget that - it just bombed out after 25 miles.
Damn crap thing.

The best advice I've come across in relation to this problem is to not use an earpiece as well as the GPS on bluetooth.
Also remove all pairing with the GPS. Switch off the phone and back on. Run TT prog and switch on GPS. Allow the TT prog to find the GPS but do not authorise the pairing. That is, don't enter the passcode, just cancel. TT will find the GPS. You may have to go to the setup menu (Show GPS Status) to select the correct unit but once that's is done you should not need to do it again.
Don't pair the GPS with the phone in the normal way ie through the bluetooth menu.
You should not see the GPS listed in the paired devices!
