I there anybody out there who can confirm that they have been able to buy a Nokia 9500 that came out of the box with 5.xx firmware - especially in the UK?
Secondly, do new 9500's still come with a piece of clear plastic film across the outside screen?
I have just had two consecutive 9500's delivered with v4.51 firmware. They also had some small scratches near the ear mike and were missing the clear plastic film on the outside screen. My supplier (a large UK one) doesn't get them direct from Nokia and I do wonder about the history oif the units - it may explain why their prices are v. competitive.
I am trying to get an original 5.xx replacement (I know you can get 5.22 upgrades at Service Centres) and I was wondering if it is actually possible to do so.
WTF!? scratches and no plastic cover!? OMG maybe the cover was replaced by an old one or the whole unit was used before you got it... i suggest not buying from that shop and look for a more reliable one...

Hi, Mine came with 4.xx a year ago. I got my upgraded at a service centre to 5.22.As it was still within the gurantee period it was done free of charge. I wanted 5.22 as Blackberry would work only with 5.22. Now I got the blackberry working aswell and I am in the UK.
Well, answered my own question (almost).
Just bought a new 9500 in India (seems to be the same as the UK version in all respects except the mains charger) and that came out of the box with v5.22 firmware.
IMEI is 3543060014xxxxx so it seems likely that anything with a higher IMEI will have the same firmware.
The box and writing on it are mostly yellow and gold - different from my 1st 9500 but I guess that might be India- specific packaging.
