In addition to the already established freeware SkinInstall, for automating skin switching on the Communicator, there's now Skin Wizard S80, also freeware, for creating your own skins in the first place. The Nokia 9300 and 9500 will never have looked so good!
Read on in the full article.
Very useful app for all of us who've been doing this manually. I haven't tested it much yet, but right away I noticed a couple of things that should be improved. First off, the source image has to be 800 x 200 in this program, while it should be 755 x 200. And the line for the box around the clock (0x101F87FE) is missing from this program.
This info is also missing from the tutorial, so it is understandable that it was left out from Skin Wizard S80. But it is all mentioned in the huge skinning thread on this forum; http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/31140/ The author might want to have a look there.
Thanks. Do you mind dropping the author a line and generally liasing with him about this? Between the two of you, you should get this side of things nailed!!

Good point In the next version I will only use 755x200. It does not use the full 800 pixels any way. I do not know much about all the options in the skin file. I used the ones described in the tutorial. Because I did not have the time to test all the options, I have made this configurable. You can add colors and other options to the csv file in the template. (read the readme.htm)
I hope that some one with more knowledge about skins will make new more extended the templates. I have also not included all the images and mbm files. You can add these to the template too without changing the executable. I also hope that someone will write more understandable descriptions for the colors.
Tijmen
Seems like Tijmen beat me to it. I downloaded SkinWizard yesterday and it's a nice application. Very easy to create skins.
I'm also working on a skinning application, but this one is supposed to run on the Communicator itself. Even though Tijmen has released his application, I will continue to work on mine too. Some people prefer to work on the Communicator, other prefer to work on their PC. It's good to have an alternative for both.
@Tijmen: The documentation for skins is a reeal bother. But I'm still browsing through the limited skin documentation and the Symbian SDK, and I've found out some usefull stuff that isn't in the tutorial and also not in the skinning thread. End of this week, I'll put all the bits and pieces together and send it to you so you can update SkinWizard. I'll also post my findings in the forum of course.
