Nokia has just announced the Series 80-based 9300i smartphone in New York. As previously rumoured, the main changes are Wi-Fi (802.11g), a larger 1100mAh battery, predictive text input on the cover phone and a rich Instant Messaging client. The press release also talks about 'multiple' email clients, with solutions for all popular 'push' solutions. Availability is Q1, 2006 worldwide.

That's quite some Enterprise upgrade. I suspect a lot of the features (especially the security ones) are a direct result of feedback from corporations about what they want before they'll let device into their network. I know for example that a lot of Enterprise customers are insisting on remote device lock etc.

Remote locking via SMS is a feature that appeared already in the 9500 (and original 9300), so it is not really new for the 9300i. (Search for "remote locking" in the 9500 or 9300 User's Guides; the feature is described in the "Control Panel" chapter.)

Maybe I should think before I post next time. Thanks for the correction n/a 😊

The software bundle does scream Enterprise though. Of ocurse most people will be interested in the Wifi... The 9500 suddenly feels a lot less flash!

The 9300 & 9500 are so slow, it's a shame ( and a robbery ) to sell them. They really don't compare to recent Windows Mobile or PalmOS smartphones. If nokia is able to improve performance by a big factor, then one should consider them again. Otherwise, forget it.

The 9300/9500 is one of the most stable PDA-phones on the market. It is WM and Palm OS phones that shouldn't be allowed on the market because of their instability and poor battery life.

And I don't find them slow at all.

I still prefer the 9500. It's bigger, but that's also the advantage. The keyboard is easier to use and the screen is easier to read - see that guy squinting in the picture in the article to read his 9300i screen?

Would love to see the firmware improvements for the 9300i available on the 9500 though...

Predictive text would be great, especially if a firmware upgrade is available for current 9300, still no vibrating alert function though, disappointing

I have bought Nokia 9300i yesterday and returned to mashael khaleej (the agent in saudi arabia) as the telephone will not open at all. the problem is more severe if you transfer your contacts. If you download some xtra programmes, the machine is dead. they replaced me with another new one and the same problem is there. I am a communicator user from 9000. I kept all in working condition till today. only 9210i was a bit fast, but after that all are awfully slow. Nokia engineers have never used Treo 650. you should see the speed and rebooting time. I am waiting to see E61 of nokia but seeing 9300i I think we will be robbed by nokia again.
