The end of the beginning?

Whats the screen size of the N80 in inches? Physically it looks no larger than the N70 screen which measures 2.1". But the N80 accomodates 4 rows of Menu items while the N70 does only 3. Part of the space comes from a thinner top-strip for the Network & Battery status display. But is that adequate to make room for 1 entire row of Menu items?

The screen physically is the same size. However there are four times the pixles and hence putting an extra icon row in works fine.

The higher screen resolution looks pretty promising for video playback. Will it be possible to load high resolution (i.e. greater than QVGA) content into full screen playback on the N80??

Is this review for the US or UK market? Im in the UK and didnt think this phone would be out as late as late 1st 1/4 - im to impatient! good review, thanks

hello,
this is definately my next phone. I would like to ask, when is it going to sell in Greece? this model is not showing at all on the greek nokia page.

Hi,

Just wondering if you know if the N80 has a speakerphone for handsfree talk and listening to music w/o headphones? Thanks in advance for the info.

Hi,

How do you think the n80 compare to the Sony Ericsson w900?

N80 v SE W900 wrote:Hi,

No Comparation possible with w900!! W900 is intended to be a mobile player, with phone functions!! N80 is a Smartphone , so it is much much better!!!

All WCDMA phones (like the N80) are 2100MHz band phones and they will work in Japan at least on the Vodafone KK network (in principle they should also work on NTT DoCoMo's FOMA network, which is also WCDMA, but DoCoMo doesn't seem to support roaming like that).

>>> I happened to ask one of the network providers some time ago if they have a phone that would allow me to use in Korea & Japan and the representative mentioned that based on his knowledge, subscribers who are using the Nokia 6630 & 6680 are able to continue using their phones when they are in Korea & Japan (I think he mentioned something about them being 3G phones). Since the Nokia N80 has similar connectivity, I would expect the N80 to work in Korea & Japan as well. Can someone help verify this please?

I am wondering why does Nokia not classify the N80 as one of the "Phones for Business"? It seems to me the N80 has similar (and better features/function) than the Nokia 6630 & 6680. Could someone help to point out the missing factor(s) that does not get it classified as a Phone for Business please? Thanks very much!

At the moment I have a SE K750i, but I'm dying to get this phone.. Nice review btw.. Have you got an idea when I can buy the phone in holland? Please tell me it's soon

Thnx for the information 😊
But can I find that information somewhere, or how do you know?

yay i heard hong kong is going to come out on feb 10. for only 606 usd which is 4576 hkd but maybe more but its probably 4576 😃 can't wait, mong kok will sell much cheaper !!!! >.< damit but my parents are not that easy going to getting me a phone ESPECIALLY my mom she will never.

Nokia models that are 3G, will work in Japan and South Korea if your mobile company has a contract to roam in these countries, if you live in Japan or S.Korea and have a sim card that allow you to world roaming then it will funtion very well here,to add some models of nokia 6680 is great to have in japan with its funtion.

Supposedly there is one carrier in Seoul using WCDMA 2100 as my v800 attached to a carrier there (but it wouldn't let me make calls as it was a closed net, T-Mobile USA's claims notwithstanding). Also, Vodaphone Japan lists this carrier in Korea as working with their 3G phones.

My v800 worked fine in Japan on Vodaphone's net. (T-Mobile USA SIM, UK version of v800)

why can't it have AM radio? And why does it not have an optical zoom

As N91 is believed to support all the major Asian languages,
does anybody know whether N80 would support Japanese
fonts (both inputting and outputting?)

If so, the threat of N80 would be even bigger for Japanese
telephone operators thinking that the WLAN coverage there
is very wide and solid and if it can be used with Skype...

can someone give me a web site for buy n70? here in Italy no one sell it, i'd like to buy abroad but i want a serious seller.

THis phone looks great, having wifi greatly increases the possiblility i will actually use the phone to its full potential. Add to that the possibility of skype and my imagination really takes off!

I've not been able to read a review anywhere that mentions the actual performance of the n-80. Nokia (in the past) have always impressed me with the fastest responding phones available. my 6680 literally waited for me! i was never left hanging while my inbox loaded or sms'es opened.

I now have an N-70 and have been very dissapointed by how long basic things take to happen. and how much farting around goes on even just to dial a number! ....unlock the keypad with a 5 digit pin, Wait for the keypad active popup to go away, dial the number (the first digits will be missed if you start to dial too soon) make the call. when you hangup the disconnected popup shows for a couple of seconds and if you try to do anything before its dissapeared (like dial another number) it'll forget the first few keypresses. the bottom line is, this is a telephone. Imho the user should never be left waiting for the basic features to load or open. (my .02c worth)

Not that i'm not dying to embrace the benefits! but i'm worried about nokia, and others, forgetting what this device spends 90% of its life doing! accepting very very basic repetitive user input (dialling numbers and recalling contacts)

apologies, My 6310i was the phone i was referring to, not sure where i got 6680 from. my bad. but all Pre Symbian Nokias were very fast in comparison. I don't understand why the basics would slow down at all. they're doing the same thing as before right??
