Can I connect to Vodafone on a non-Vodafone phone?

If I buy a generic N70, can I connect to vodafone live 3g to view TV (using a voda sim card).

I have a imate JasJar PPC connected to the vodafone network and for the life of me I can not connect to 3G vodafone live.

I called vodafone and they told me live only works on vodafone branded models. You can not add the settings yourself.

Is that true?

Probably. I had a V800, worked ok with Voda. I had it rebranded to a Z800, no longer works with Voda.

The differences between the two handsets are nil. The Z800 is just the sim free version of the V800, but it does not work with Live! as it should.

A sim free N70 should work, though. As a sim free phone it is still going to show as an N70 when you connect to the portal. I had a sim free 6230i which worked fine with Live! and an Orange K750i which also worked fine after I'd had it unlocked and debranded. I just downloaded the settings from the manufacturer website for each phone and it worked fine, for browsing and sending MMS.

How?

Hi,

Yes, it is possible, Vodafone doen't use a specific software to do that.

I'm using Vodafone in Portugal. I'm using a free Nokia N70 and contact the Portuguese Vodafone to configure this smartphone. In reply, they send me a doc with the steps to do achieve that. Unfortanly is only in portuguese.

Anyway, I can send this doc (despite the fact that it is in portuguese), or you can also ask your Vodafone operator to give you this instructions, as they give me in Portugal.

Regards,
Marco

Just been to my local vodafone shop and they can't get my imate jasjar to connect to vodafone live. He showed me a bit of paper saying non-vodafone phone might not be able to connect to vodafone live.

I don't see it myself. Gonna call Voda now....

erm.. dont wanna sound dumb here but whats an imate jasjar??
i got my unbranded nokia n70 to work using the settings thta appear in the connection settings hwne you put tur voda sim card in

This is a JasJar http://www.imate.com/t-DETAILS_JASJAR.aspx

I believe Vodafone call there soon to be released version a VPA IV http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/5819.html

I've had the thing for 3 months now and everything works, 3G, GPRS, MMS etc but I just can't connect to Vodafone Live.

Just got off the phone to Vodafone (again) and they can't sort it, nor can my local vodafone shop.

Surely, I don't have to have a vodafone live handset in order to access the live content?

No you don't have to have a vodafone live handset, I use a generic sim free N70 with no problems.

However the phone has to be reconised by Vodafone, vodafone live relies on being able to determine what phone you are using so that it can show you a version of its pages that will view on your phone, Phones it doesn't reconise will be blocked from viewing the page.

When I first got my simfree 6680 about a month before they became commercially available I was unable to view Vodafone live, once the phone was made available on vodafone, I could view vodafone live.

In simple terms until your JasJar is available or approved on Vodafone you will not be able to view vodafone live, it is the same for all the networks.

You can however browse the normal internet like the BBC etc

just make sure you have the vodafone internet access point set up

or for wap, the vodafone wap access point

If not already installed download the settings wizard from http://europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,77767,00.html and install

then run the wizard choosing the correct operator

I've done that and when it connects to vodafone live 3G the mobile TV option is not in the entertainment menu....

Any ideas?

Well the N70 is available on Voda now, so it should be recodnised.

I just cannot connect to live even with the right settings

hope i can sort it out soon so I can get that free Sky TV

I've sorted it now. I downloaded the settings from Nokia, however the Live TV did not appear until I upgraded my phone (was unlocked from tmobile) with generic software.

What i'm getting is when i try to connect to vodafone live is "packet data: connection not available"

any ideas?

I get this on my N80. It's a sim free phone with a Vodafone PAYG sim. 3G signal is being picked up fine, and I'm trying to connect with the standard internet browser to live.vodafone.com and get the above (same with any other site).

I've done the settings wizard (although the phone had already set it up just by putting the vodafone sim in), and tried various Vodafone settings as it sets up GPRS, Live and Live Streaming, and none work.

An internet connection using my Orange sim is fine however, but obviously I don't get the Vodafone live service.

I'm just curious to see if their TV service works and what Vodafone live is like (before they start charging for it).
