hi,

i saw another thread in which lots of people seem to have had problems and since the tipicme site isnt clear and nobody mentions how it works i thought i would let everyone know since its such a great tool and is very much a killer-app for the 7650.

before you can use tipicme you need to go to the website (http://www.tipic.com/) and sign up and get an tipicme account. then you can download the java client for the phone and also get the tipic client for windows which makes managing the contacts and transports a lot easier.

once you have installed the app on your phone and pc, you can login using your tipic username/password. and then you can add your icq/msn/yahoo/jabber transports(accounts).

now i recommend doing this on the windows client so you can nicely and safely edit your contacts names and adding contacts is a lot easier, i also recommend that you create new accounts in all the IM's you plan to use and only have the essential ppl in the new ones.

when you connect on the phone you need to use your tipicme username/password, now if you added your contacts and accounts on windows you wont need to do anything here other than connect. and the connection really begins when it goes to 80%, after which it should connect and show you online contacts and offline contacts, there might be some connection problems but it realy depends mroe on your GPRS connection. also it sometimes takes a little while to connect but it works...

hope this helps you all to have a nice IM scene on your phone thats free! there are some bugs but they will be ironed out slowly and i prefer it to IM+. any questions please ask...

cheers

wow, that pretty much covers up everything! (i think)

Thanx! Although i don't use it, or have GPRS in my country, but thanks 😃

Why don't either of the passwords supplied via email work on the Tipic website? The login screen refuses to recognise either as valid. I've just signed up for a second account with a new email address and will try again but i'm not holding my breath...

Sorted.

My first user name was too short to generate a password by email, ( I guess, seeing as the website didnt mention anything was incorrect.)

My second username contained and underscore (_) again, no error from the website, but I did manage to get a password by email. The website told me I had an incorrect password, what it really meant was that it doesn't like underscores.

My third attempt was successful! (So far...) i've managed to log in with the username 'omarg' Yay!

Only problems I have with the client are that

1: You get no online status of contacts in your roster.
2: you get no notification that new messages have come in 😞

I think this program is great. I use it really a lot.
Only concern i have with it is that it gives no warningsound if you get a message, and that i couldn't import my userdatabase. I have to authorize every single one again.

Other then that.. I LOVE IT!

Now where is that damn seperate keyboard for my 7650....... :-?

The status of contacts works fine for me.

And yeah, Incoming message alerts would pretty much make it a COMPLETE IM solution. Hope we get this soon.

I get an "IN/OUT ERROR. Disconnected." when I try and connect. This is preceeded by the message: "401Unauthrized!"

Wahey! I'm online! I changed my password on the Tipic website but it seems that it doesn make any difference, it still uses the (wierd) one supplied by email. Im online on my 7650! Wooohoo!

I always wanted to get online on my 7650 (or buy any other mobile device) But it's almost impossible, with no GPRS, and the really high cost and low speed of regular GSM (i think the fastest is 19.2kbps, but it never gets there, i was told by someone who tried it that he got to 9.6 only!) I think it'll never happen!!

Well i still have a "mobile" solution! INternet cafe's!!!

well 😊 ( what exactly is ur name? would be so much easier to address 😉 😃 ) since u say u have no GPRS there, did you try wapping for the Yahoo messenger? You can still be online ( not sure of your cost / time structure for wap services..though) But yeah..u CAN still get online!!

PS: I Like ur avatar 😊

Well my name is : ) ! It was my brother's uncle from another nephew's step mother's cat that named me 😃

PS: I Like ur avatar

Thanx!! 😃

BTW, when i downloaded Tipic today, it was Version 1.0 Beta. Are there any other versions available? (i remember having seen 1.1 somewhere, not sure though)

Having used for sometime, and a few login later, it now keeps logging me off, after everymessage sent. Donno what's happening.

Also, there does'nt seem to be an option to change user, as when u change username and password in the id field, in the options we have.. Unregister 😮 What does this actually mean?

Anyone shine some light on this please?

I was quite unimpressed by the confusing Tipic website, and even more unimpressed by the terrible password system, but i must admit that the software itself is fantastic once you get started. It's free and does exactly what it says on the tin. More in fact.

IM+ from shape services has been delayed so much, seems to offer very little over Tipic, I can't see myself spending $20 on it when i've got this.. 😊

Well done tipic.
