Does anyone know the settings for t-mobile uk gprs..?? Ive tried the default ones with the phone but get ' invalid access point ' when using it with Oplayer.. I called t-mobile & they said theyre gprs isnt running yet??!!! but I know other users in this forum have been using it already... thanx... 😞
T-MOBILE GPRS SETTINGS..??
Goto www.sonyericsson.com/uk and download the settings to your phone using their "Configurator."
It is charged at 2p per kilobyte, which equals 20 for a single megabyte so i wouldnt advise using it for Oplayer, or anything in fact.
Just by way of comparison Vodafone are the UK's cheapest at 0.032p per KB while O2's most expensive tariff is 0.48p per kb. (5 per MB)
That's all very well but u need to have a GPRS product/service in order to get the GPRS facility in the 1st place. GPRS is an enabler - not a service!. - e.g. Picture Messaging gets u access to GPRS service.
Don't worry about the cost thing - there's good news coming soon - so I am told.
:P
GPRS is already enabled on all accounts opened or upgraded in the past 4 months. If not its simply a matter of asking for it to be enabled.
T-mobile have offered GPRS without picture messaging (MMS) for the last 5 weeks.
If that's your point....?
Thats news to me as i told them to stuff it where the sun dont shine after my phone went in for repair and "Out of a good will gesture" .... They gave me 15 credit !
Bear in mind tho that not having a phone with GPRS capability on it to be able to use the service and being told initially it was 20 per 10 mb u use and that didnt have an expiry date ! ( bull sh!t i say ) ......
Watch your back with T-Mobile and GPRS they change there minds every couple of weeks and one hefty spree on GPRS with them will elave you with a very empty wallet to say the least...
To finish off here tho i was still about 9 out of pocket and no 7650 for 3.5 weeks due to there "Good will gesture!"
I wont be stopping with them next time anyhow ....

Omar.... I just got off of the phone to T-Mobile, and they confirmed what I had dreaded all along... GPRS (without picture messaging) will be available soon but they have no time limit as of yet, and can't say if it will be weeks or months before it's in place. So MMS is up and running (over GPRS) but they're not allowing us to use it to browse. Would it be cynical of me to think that they're testing GPRS on MMS customers? It makes sense from their point of view... ~1 per MB or 40p per message? You know what their accountants will choose to do!
It is avalible now. The CS dept. don't know much, you should know that as a T-Mobile customer!
Ring 150 and select:
Option 3: "To get more form your t mobile..."
Option 2: "For T-Zone services including WAP & Email"
Option 2: "Online help and cost information."
Listen....
The prerecorded message will describe how GPRS is charged, 2p per KB.
The service is up and running, GPRS inclusive tariffs are not. Customer Service get a little confused if you ask them anything more difficult than their own name. 😉
Tell you what, why not just download the settings and try it rather than take my word for it? It'd be much quicker and easier. If access is barred ring 150 and ask for MMS to actived (if they refuse to accept that they offer GPRS) by doing this GPRS is also enabled on your account.
According to the useless CSA at t-mobile, it's not possible to use the GPRS that MMS utilises for anything other than picture messenging. They (and their technical team) say that that it is not possible to browse WAP via GPRS, or pay per kilobyte for data transfers. When I told them I had just listened to the message on their system which clearly states they do charge per kilobyte, they CSA got pretty stroppy about it. After some arguing, she put me through to one of the technical team - you know, the only people there who actually have a clue - so I could ask him. This guy actually turned out to be knowledgable, and explained what the discepancies in the service are. This guy told me that the message you heard shouldn't be on the system, and is the result of an over-zealous member of staff getting ahead of himself. So, t-mobile's official line is:
If you can get GPRS working, well done. You can use it, you will be charged at 2p per KB. The proper service is in the final stage of testing, and will be available in a few months.
One important point to note: t-mobile don't offer this as an advertised service. This means that t-mobile are technically within their rights to change the price without giving you notice (seeing as it's not an advertised service). As no-one has officially been told the price, there is no where to check that it has been changed, so therefore they don't need to give notice of the change. I hate f*****g service provider contracts... they screw you from every direction at once!
Incidentally, the guy I spoke to said that the 2p per KB message is going to be removed. 😞
My god, I ramble so much when I type a post in dribs and drabs... if that doesn't make sense cos some of it's syntactically incorrect, let me know!
I have just spoken with their CS and they said that it costs 2.50 for 10 MMS YOU HAVE TO PAY THIS FIRST AND THERE IS NO GPRS SYSTEM FOR BROWSING AT PRESENT.. tried the settings on my phone and they still dont work anyway..!!
Lets get this straight.
I am on T-Mobile and I use GPRS since June for MMS, WAP, E-Mail, Surfing both on the phone and via IR on my laptop, video streaming the lot.
T-Mobile DO offer GPRS they just don't seem to know it??
When I have had a problem I phone them and say 'my GPRS is not working' thet say 'We don't have GPRS sir!'
I say 'Sorry I mean my Picture messaging is not working' then then fix it!
What madness!
Whatever CS say - T-Mobile DO have GPRS and you can use it for EVERYTHING not just MMS - in fact I'm using it now!
Here are my settings:

Will,
I have problems convincing new members of this board that GPRS exists week in week out.
I really hope they listen to you more than they listen to me, but I fear you're wasting your time.
ok GPRS exists
until they get the price down....they can suck my boaby !
what i do is take advantage of my free minutes tariff (anytime 150, 150 free minutes, anytime, any network, including landlines)
i got a BT (not bluetooth - british telecom) dial up account from their webpage. you know, the sort of account you would get for your pc and 56k modem. I put all the info into the phone as an access point. I dial in and have net access. Its free. I can surf, irc, send email etc. Its because of the email i did this, i cant send through my bt account unless i have dialed into bt. prevents peeps spamming through their servers.
unfortunately, i would get one of those surftime tariffs, but i dont think the work with mobiles (
sod the lot of them....GPRS should be free !

Yep, it's now working perfectly, apart from the extortionate cost! So that's at least three of us that say T-mobile has got GPRS... trust us, it works!
Guess what..?? after coming off the phone and T-mobile denying they have gprs, the next day I woke up with a 'G' on the top left hand corner (under the reception indicator) of my mobile, I then tried using gprs for webviwer and oplayer and hey presto .. it works..!! but when I dialled in to CS to check my account it didnt seem to have been added to my call charges- even though I had down loaded at least 1/2 mb.. unless its recorded seperately ..??
According to t-mobile CS (who we all know are useless) it takes up to 72 hours for calls to show up on your bill - so in about three days those calls should show up on your bill! But at 2p per KB, 1/2 MB will cost about... 10. What a rip off!
