problem formating

hello , i've been trying to format my 9210 for the past 10 mins , i restart the device , get the "handshake" ,press ctrl+shift+F ,get the "you are about to ..." ,i press format and that takes me back to the "handshake" ,any idea what's wrong ?

U can also try this first before formatting your device:

If the device does not respond even after several restarts, take the battery out, wait for 30 seconds, then put back the battery and open the cover... When you see the Welcome screen, immediately press and hold down the Ctrl+ Shift+ I keys. The I key should be pressed last.) This will actually remove all the temporary files. (This empties the cache, removes cookies, resets plugin registrations and resets the settings you have made in some of the applications including all Internet and profile settings, Desk shortcuts and display settings...)

Then you remove the battery again to restart the communicator. Insert the battery and open the cover. When you see the Welcome screen, immediately press and hold down the Ctrl+ Shift+ F keys. (The F key should be pressed last...)

😉 Formatting will now starts...

I did face the same situation before. What I did was, I press "ctrl+chr+shift and k (a few time only the 'k' key)"- till reboot then from the welcome screen (handshake) try to press ctrl+shift+F. this should work. and also make sure that the progress bar is shown properly.

Good Luck

Saddly it still doesn't format !!! i did the ctrl+shit+I (it worked) ,did the ctrl+shift+chr+K (it did restart) but still when i press format it just dumps me back to the welcome screen 😞

Too bad but, it really work on my set.. also sometime I did repeat it a few time to get it done.

Are you running a low memmory issue on c drive?

Try to remove first some applications from 9210 (free 1 Mb) and try again.

I have a Special hunch that this will work 😉

Sorry but ...
1,663 KB in C 1.820 KB in D and 3036 KB RAM free
and still nadda 😮

What happends after you get the format message?

Are you pressing the corespondent key?

What after hands appearing? The device strats up normally?

After i get the format msg i press format and then the handshake reappears and the devices starts normally ! i was thinking about killing all the apps and then deleting the memory throu the pc

like The ol' manual book stated:

"If the procedures described above do not help, as a last resort before contacting your local dealer you can try formatting the internal memory of the communicator..."

😉 so i guess its about time you pay a visit to your local NOKIA CENTRE... since your "last resort" is not working...

Hehe , i was hoping to avoid that cause i'll probably have to part with it for 2 weeks or so :robot:

😉 Well, Formatting will usually take around 2-5 min only... so u can give them extra 30 min to do it... don't accept any 2-3 weeks kinda bullshit!!! and if its still under warranty, dont let them charged u!!!

It can be because of the localisation software. The fact is that some localisation software opens files before "hands" and it prevents formatting. If so, try to press deactivate key for your localisation software if any, or if your communicator is loading normally deactivate it manually and then try format your device, otherwise go to NSC.

There is no localisation software ,infact ,i manually deleted almost everything in the communicator but i still can't format ,i guess i have no other choise but to take it in for service

i tried everything but nadda so what i did was to format the memory card ,delete everything possible from the internal memory and then reinstalled the sis with all the apps for it and everything worked out fine 😊 i even restored my sms on d: 😃
Did you tried, Just for the record, to format again?
Sure did , for about 30 mins continuisly ,left the battery out for 10 mins ,tried again for about 20 mins for and then did what i described in my last post. BTW fyi the firmware is 4.13 from the box

Well done in getting it working. However If I was you I would still get nokia to look at it while it's still under warranty. One day you may have a problem where you need to format it!!!

i still got a couple months left for the warranty so i'm planning on giving it for a check up later on but the damn thing is too hard to let go 😉

8) Yes u should!!! it wont take long!!! it'll only take a few hours... well actually less than an hour to do it...

The problem almost definitely lies in the fact that there is a font on the C drive that is loaded up and used by the system, and that stops formatting from working. I can't remember the exact solution I used, but you can try the following:

With the device started, copy all the font files from c:\system\fonts\ to d:\system\fonts\

Next, try to delete the fonts from the C drive. You might have to restart it once before you can do this. Alternatively, if it refuses to delete them, try just renaming them.

Then reset and try to format it again.

Andy

If you want to delete something and the system complains ...
use this solution:

start a backup from c to your mmc ... while this backup starts all apps are closed.
you can now delete all the files you want on c ... and then stop the backup ...
I did this when I copied my contacts.db and when I restored it ...

I think you may be right ,i couldn't delete a psiloc font when i deleted everything and i did what Dazler said using the pc suite and restoring something when i was deleting some others files ,i should have figured it out :/ but anyway ,it's working fine now and i'll have it checked up in a couple of weeks so it's all good 😊 thank you all for your help
