Strange indicator icons on N80

hi

I need to lookup for the meaning of certain indicator icons that are appearing on my N80 stanby screen. Is there anywebsite where I can cross reference? Nokia manual only refers to some basic icons.

I am using a 3G SIM card and this 3 particular indicator icons appear on both my N80 and also my 3220.

Hi

Nope...these 3 particular icons are not listed there and I can't even describe it. Is there any program out there that allows me to screen capture?

Yo Jay

Cool! it works on my N80 as well

Now I have the screenshot. Can anyone help with the first 3 indicator icons from the right of the screen , please.

Thanx

Well, the middle one suggests you have a voicemail waiting. Call your voicemail and listen to all your voice messages all the way through, and that should go.

But I don't have a clue about the other two. I'm foxed. One looks like a printer icon. Have you been trying to print anything?

As a matter of interest, which network are you with?

PS: The other icons could be "Hand-Wash Only" and "Do Not Tumble Dry". Only joking.

The one on the right hand side is a E mail. Have you downloaded an E Mail form your E mail server and not read or deleted it....Not sure which but its defiantly something to do with E mail....

One next to the email one looks like a memory card icon to me? WOuldn't know what it means though - no memory card present?

OK confirmed the middle one is an indicator for voicemail but the icon didnt disappear even after I have checked and deleted all my voice messages.

The rest 2 still not a clue. I tried restarting the phone without thr memory card but the icons are still there.

The icon that looks like the email is still there even though I have not configured my phone to read mails. But then I configured it later hoping it will disappear but what you know! its still there.

As for the network, am in Malaysia and myservice provider is Maxis with a 3G connection

My final suspicion is maybe its something to do with the 3G SIM card am using

The symbol that looks like it might be for email is actually different to the email symbol on my N80, which is an "@" symbol.

AFAIK, your voicemail symbol is actually set / unset using network signalling. If you put your SIM in another 3G phone, do you get the same symbol?

Now this is a complete hunch, but I wonder if the other two symbols also network related. Maybe they are for network based eMail and Fax services (as opposed to the client-based eMail service you can set up on your N80). OK, I don't know if such services actually exist, but the GSM/3GPP standards are full of obsure bits-and-bobs that never got implemented properley (or at all). Maybe your network has got its knickers in a twist, or just doesn't like your N80. 😮

Pure speculation, but maybe it will help.
Good luck
