I installed the E series Email/ActiveSync software as soon as I'd heard about it and notice that the new version (1.2.13) appears to fix the issue that you couldn't actually open an email on the N80.
However - Although the software worked fine over the weekend the application now hangs saying "connecting" and nothing appears to kill the app! If you exit and relaunch it immediately says "connecting" not idle so I beleive a lower level process is continuing to run. My suspicious are heightened by the fact the battery dies overnight if it's left in this state.
If I turn the phone off and then back on the software reports that it is "idle" when it's first used.
So - a few questions:
1. Is there anyway of really exiting an application on the N80?
2. Is anyone else experienceing this issue?
3. Does anyone from NOKIA read these boards? If so - can they have a word with the developer as the application isn't really behaving itself (quit! No!).
Last caveat - don't sync your calendar via the lead (and PC software) AND ActiveSync - you end up with a mass of duplicate series.

If it's a running process can you view it by holding down the menu key, and then killing it by pressing 'c'? If not, maybe wait until a new version of TaskSwitcher (or whatever it's called) is released for S30 3rd Ed which shows you all running processes and allows you to stop them.

Been there - tried that - but thanks for taking the time to suggest it😊 .
The application disappears from the list but (having removed it and left the phone on battery all day today) I'm more then certain that it left something still running that consumed CPU cycles.
I also (in a belt & braces way) used the connection manager to force shut the "Orange GPRS" connection. That worked - and said nothing was attempting to send any data.
As you say - could be time to load (eventually - when it's been signed) a 3rd party task manager.

Its probably worth bearing in mind that the Exchange stuff isn't supported on the N80 and therefore may not have been extensively tested.
It did work fine on the N71 I had for a brief time.
I had this problem when the signal was very weak. Tried later and all was OK again
I decided to reset the phone using the codes listed at:
http://www.s60tips.com/category/miscellaneous/
and reinstalled ActiveSync and all is fine now.
