Well thaught this would be the best place to ask these questions as you lot actualy use the phone.
Batterey life -
Is it actualy as bad as some people are making out? or is it more people doing stupid things like leaving apps open and the camera on?
Build Quality -
Ive heard things about it being a tad plasticy and not so well built also some other coments about the slide mechnisim, true?
Headset and sound quality -
This is a very imortant one to me, what sort of connection is there for the headset? Do you have to use pethetic Nokia branded headphones or have Noka finaly taken the hint that they sound crap and gone back to a system like on the N-Gage? and also have they started to use there own software again or will I be stuck with real player like on my 3230?
all awnsers will be muchly aprecieated,
thanks Jon.
Battery life is pretty poor, really. On the SPV phones they go for days before I need to charge them up. Even the N70 wasn't this bad, but saying that I get at least 24 hours so I am not without charge mostly. But it's a real disappointment.
Build quaily on mine is as tough as nuts. Really solid and well put together. Slide is very firm and tough. No problems there.
Nokia supply headphones in the box and also a 3.5mm pop port jack adaptor that allows you to use pretty much any set of earphone with the phone.
Battery life is dependent on what you do with the phone. The biggest battery drain can be a poor 3G connection. 3G phones tend to use more power and the N80 is no exception. This gets worse when you are on the edge of a 3G signal. Anywhere where the signal is weak or there is no signal will mean the battery lasts less time.
Obviously using stuff like the wifi is also a battery drainer... However you can do stuff like plays music for 8 hours which is quite good compared to other devices.
End of the day the N80 has a lot in it which can use the battery up and your experience will vary depending on how you use the phone and where you live.
I use wifi quite regular and have several voice and text conversations every day, and my battery lasts about 1.5 days, but I now leave my charger by my bed and just plug the phone in to charge every night so I know I have a full battery next day 😊..works perfectly for me.
not sure if this is important but the manual says not to leave it connected to the mains once fully charged
I had an i-river mp3 player with a cradle which was plugged into the mains all the time when the player was in the cradle and it fried the battery inside a year.

Hmm..I will have to look into that, i though that there would have been some sort of cut out once the battery has been charged to stop overcharging, pretty bad design if there isnt 😞
When i got my N80 from Carphone Warehouse they made it a massive point that i should leave the charger plugged into the phone for 16 hours on the 1st charge and only ever upto 2 hours after that.
Infact they specificially said not to leave it plugged in the charger overnight. It was emphasised like 10 times so at 1st i was a bit worried that if i left it for tooo long it would start a fire or something (YES they made a that bigger point out of it).
But with only 2 hour charges the battery would like need a charge every 18 hours or so, now i leave it in the charger overnight seems to last bout a day and a half depending on how much i talk.

What the hell, if "overcharging" ruins the battery in the first year I will send it back under warrantee and play dumb "No sir, I charged it as it says in the instructions"
I think within a year I will find out if over charging knackers the battery, and I dont think its a fire issue either, if there was any mention of that at nokia they wouldn't have released the phone, or there would have been a call back. just CPW bullsh*t again, my phone is cool when I wake up in the morning and fully charged, thats good enough for me 😊..

Bloody hell..I will never look at a battery the same again 😊..
Lol
I had about 4 days out of mine with not many gsm calls recently, the low battery beep is pretty quiet as well when it got down to one bar and below.
I took the hint as I didnt want to charge it over night and stuck it on charge for two hours last night. I still have a full set of bars as I write, 27hrs later.
