N80 & Gps

Just bought the Nokia LD-3W GPS receiver to try out with my N80. I downloaded SmartcomGPS
(trial version) but I'm having problems - everything seems to work fine for the first 30
seconds but then the bluetooth connection seems to die.
I'm pretty sure the Bluetooth on the N80 is ok as I've been using PC Suite with a bluetooth
dongle without any hassle. I also don't think its not SmartCom as I also downloaded GETrack
and had similar problems... so I guess that leaves the gps receiver?

Anyone had similar problems? Do you need to position the GPS receiver a particular way??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
N

Did you try the Bluetooth GPS with the built in GPS related software and see if you got a similar issue. If so it could be a faulty GPS although I would be suprised if that were the case.

Rafe

Where is the build in GPS software? Can't see that anywhere on the phone....

I have tried 2 other apps at this stage - GETrack and ViewRanger..... all seem to have the same problem.

Position / Navigator / Landmarks - found under Tools folder.

Sounds like it is either a system software issue or something with your Bluetooth GPS (which is strange as the Nokia one is meant to be good).

im usin' ld-3w with n80, tested smartcom and getrack n they worked great! ive tested on old soft n on flashed one, was ok. i wrote just to make u sure that it works normally.

chervee - thanks - great when some can confirm something is working - makes problems eaiser to diagnose.

Rafe, do you mean the Symbian OS when you say system software issue? The firmware is up to version 06, so i hope this didn't cause problems as well....

Rafe is your N80 a pre-production model

I have checked mine and my brothers and neither of us have this built in gps software.

Yeah.... I can't find it either... :con?

Apparently this is found under hidden installed apps. You'll need to install Best Taskman to find it. Try it out to see...

Ok, found it. Thanks.

I have installed best taskman but can not see the app.

Could someone talk me through ho to find and install the built in gps app.

Thanks

Gary

Open Best taskman, press the left arrow to choosed the "Installed" tab,
Go down the list until you get to Navigator, press the center button.
Thats it

Sorry forgot to mention that you should enable the hidden applications:

open best task mand and got to misc->options
Then Chang ethe show hidden apps to yes
ANd you possibly need to change the show preinstalled applications to yes as well

Then try the description above.

Whoo....where did that come from.....lol...Just got to wait now to get my GPS reciver out of the car......
Is there an easier way of opening Navigator, Rather than going the way described above?

I've read the previous posts of a GPS software on the Nokia N80.

Where do I find Best Taskman to install so that I can enable the software?

I have installed the best taskman software which is working fine but am still not seeing any 'navigator' in the installed files even when I click yes for 'show hidden apps'!! Can anyone please tell me why as I miss my sat nav and neither tom tom nor route 66 software will work yet apparently..

Cheers

Burt

once you have found the navigation applications in the hidden applications can you unhide them or create a shortcut? or do you have to go through the hidden options to get to them each time?

thanks

I have a UK O2 N80 with latest (06) firmware and have found landmarks, positioning and navigator in the hidden files on the z: drive z:\sys\bin\*.exe

Tried my friends RoyalTek GPS unit....

I can understand why Nokia didn't "release" the navigator.... it looses contact with the unit all the time... anoys me! ... or is it just mine that does that?

Am I missing something here? All the Navigator seems to do is tell you your current position, direction, avg speed etc. I suppose it would be good if you were a runner or something like that, but how much practical use does it have for driving? We need streetmaps and roadnames! Has anyone actually put it to good use for anything yet?

Had exactly the same problem - in my case it was with SmartCom GPS. It was constanly loosing contact with my receiver (Nokia LD-3W)

yep, overtaking plod at 'speedo indicated' 86 when teh GPS was telling me I was only doing 76 😊

The same problem! N80 + GlobalSat BT-338 ...

I've sent back my LD-3W to get a replacement - the bluetooth on the N80 works absolutely fine with everything else so i figured it must be this. I'll post & let you know if that sorts it....

Do you find that if you switch bluetooth off & back on again on the phone, that it re-establishes the connection for a little while?

Ungjaevel, are you still having this problem? I have a new LD-3w and still have this problem....
Has anyone got the N80 working with GPS on the xx.0.6 firmware?
