Hi all, The N80 has a shit battery life, what is the longest anyones had it on. mine just about lasts 24 hours. What settings do you change to save battery? 😡
Your ways of saving BATTERY!
24h? ... of constant playing music?
Mine lasts 2-3 days of taking pictures, music, smsing, talking.... works great.
A tip is to shut down "all" running programs.
i do... and it is pissing me right off. I dont over use it, take a couple pics, sms n couple of calls, might connect it to the pc once or twice.
I charge it over night and use it throughout the day from around 6 till 8 then the bat will be on its last legs and i'll have to charge for the next day over night! Does it matter that i just leave it plugged in to the charger over night... :frown:

Same, but mine lasts 2 days.

I hardly use my phone, maybe 2 or 3 short calls and 6 or 7 sms messages in a typical day and I am getting maybe about 18 hours of use, great phone but the battery is shocking
I think Nokia have made a huge cock-up here, I have already seen people not buying this phone because the battery is no good,
a 48 haour battery life for a phone like this is probably usable, anything less is not acceptable, lets hope they fix this in the next firmware, or bring out a higher capacity battery.
In the next firmware I would like to see a battery save option (like on my laptop) where i can select a profile which will just allow me to make calls and send and receive text messages and save the battery in any other way and if I need any of the other applications I can switch to the usual profiles.
Come on Nokia....sort it out
I use mine for 2 or 3 calls in the day and maybe 6 or 7 texts and I get 3 or 4 days use out of mine before it gets down to the last 2 bars which is when I normally charge it. I also have sleep mode turned off, so I don't know why your batteries don't last that long.
Have you made sure you've turned off all non necessary processes (e.g. 3G, packet data, wifi searching etc?).
Seems to be a big difference in user experience with the BL-5B battery then..
Personally on an average workday I'll make 5 or 6 calls, send 10 to 20 SMS / MMS, check email via WiFi a couple of times and listen to MP3s at full whack for anything up to 6 hours whilst grinding out code / commuting.
That still leaves me with at least couple of bars from a full charge the night before..
I did buy a spare battery, dual desk charger and extra mains charger a while back but haven't had cause to use 'em yet. Thought I'd hang on to them for travelling..

Ok I have turned off absolutely everything I can think off, will do a full charge tonight and see how long I get tomorrow
Not such a smart phone though with everything turned off 😞..
I will do the same. But i think ive got all them turned off already. Im posting from my n80 now, which is petty cool but i bet this little bit of surfing rinses my battery. If it continues what do you think the chances are of Orange changing it to a different phone?
I got this tip from another website and it works a treat.
I'm on my second N80 as I thought my first was faulty as the battery wouldn't last a day. So after reading some advice from a poster on another forum I charged my battery for 16 hours with the phone off then used it to full discharge and repeated this process 3 times. All I can now say is WOW! It works. Now all I do is charge my phone overnight and the battery life is much much better. I'm now 50 hours into a charge and still have 3 bars left and as I'm on 3 my network is set to 3G and apparently keeping it in 2G mode saves even more battery all of this is with calls text messaging etc.

I tried something like that when I first got the phone, but will give it a try 😊..will try anything to extend the battery life

Honestly for me it worked a treat. Like I said I'm on my second N80 now and I have gone from 1 day to 3 days battery life by doing this. I too was on the verge of sending my phone back.
I find that even with the phone off, it still stops charging when the battery is full, so i am not sure turning the phone off makes any difference.
follow the steps shown earlier they really work
Wirelessly posted (NOKIA 6630: NokiaN80-1/3.0 (3.0617.0.5) Series60/3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)
with call usage and txt and a couple of emails over wifi and a bit of music mine lasts around 2 days, but im a heavy wap/web user and normaly have 2 charge it every nite but it dnt bother me as its such a gud fone!
Right im gonna try this... it ok if i charge it for like 10 hours over night then disconnect it (and have the fone off) then when i get to work charge it?

It think you need to do a continuos charge, I borrowed a spare phone from my friend to use for a few days while I try this, I want to do it correctly so I know if it really works or not.
Hi there
Okay .. I will try this also. Right now I cannot manage more than 24h between recharges. Also, the last 2 bars to not last for long.
Mike
i seeeeeeeeeee.... Might as well go for it, can go with out my fone for 3 days.
So its charge 16hrs, use phone till battery goes, charge for 16hrs, use phone till battery goes, charge phone for 16hrs... and should last longer than 24hrs.
O well gotta be done but me thinks NOKIA should pull there fingers out and sort this along with all the other errors! A proper firmware release that fixes it proper! 🙄
Please write if it works for you, too. And use it for a week or so, before you write. Otherwise the psycological effect may be larger than the actual physical effect.
Just a quick question. After doing the 3x 16hrs trick how should i charge it... once the last 16hr charge has finished and i use it till it dies shall i jus charge it over night or untill it says battery charged/full???

I tried this and it didnt work for me 😞..read my report http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/48408/
before I got 18 hours from a full charge, and after trying this I still got 18 hours from the full charge, and I only made 2 short calls and 9 text messages.
o god. im jus on my second charge, i really hope this works otherwise im gonna have to get rid of it. cant have a phone that last 15 - 18hrs.

well I am hoping I may have duff battery or a duff charger, and going to change today if I have time, but I know from experience that this probably is not the case, I too am thinking about selling my phone while I can still get a reasonable price for it and buying something that I can actually take out with me all day and not worry about the battery going flat, I have had the battery go flat at 17.00 while out and then not getting back to charge it untill after midnight, and of course non of my friends nokia chargers would fit, or be powerfull enough to charge it
I get about 36 hours from mine. Personally I think the battery life is excellent considering all the power hungry applications/communication devices it runs.:icon14:
It's still not very long though so I bought 2 extra batteries on ebay for a small price and that does the trick!
Well I have the same problem with battery life, not lasting at all. Needed make important phone calls this weekend as someone was taken to hospital and the phone died on me!!
Well it's going back.. Such a shame as a really nice phone but not usefull in the real world where battery life is such importance.
Those who still have their N80's good luck and I hope Nokia resolves this issue for you.

baron, You are right.... When it has an emergency, is that in we come back them to remember that most important, is the main reason of being of the phones, to be operational to make called! The Battery is crucial!
I've just completed the 3 cycle recharges and have to say I've seen a vast improvement so far in battery life. Since finishing the final charge yesterday I've made a few calls prob about 15 mins in total and sent some texts out. Played Snakes for about 10 mins last night, used alarm this morning [snoozed a couple of times haha] and had a missed call ring out this afternoon also used planet 3 for about 10 mins. Phone is still on full bars over 24 hours later!! Result!!! I have bluetooth and wifi off. using a theme called 'dark' or something similar and have all of my power save settings to maximum ie shortest timeouts etc. Screen illumination is set to medium. I have 3g still enabled [when i have signal] but it's still looking for it. I'm probably still gonna keep my eye out for a battery with a hight mAH value as longer the better is still the case but at least I'm getting resonable life out of the standard batt.

Do you have sleep mode on ?
I think the key here as you say is to activate all battery saving options, lower screen illumination, lower timeouts, and turn off everything you dont use on a day to day basis and especially turn on sleep mode sleep mode and the battery does improve some, but not sufficiently from my experience to be able to feel comfortable using the N80 as a smart phone.
Let us know how you get on over the next few days, the more tests people do the clearer the picture of how this will work 😊
OK, I'm on my second day without a recharge and still have full bars. I've been using the phone as intended, ie with reasonable bluetooth use with my hands free kit (couple of hours a day plus a quick sync with my laptop), GPRS use for mail and IM, 1 picture taken (high Res) and showing of gallery to friend, quick game of snake (the way I play, very quick! ) and a coupke of calls made and received.
Sleep mode is enabled, backlight is at the lowest + 1, and standby in 2 minutes. I might almost have a smartphone again.
