Outstanding value for money!
I was affraid SE+Operators could not give a propper answer to the chalenging US$250 SPV offers.
Now is up to the buyers to decide...

The SPV is free on a 25+ monthly contract in the UK. Orange may be emulating Vodafone's tactic of pricing the P800 out of the market. Vodafone have almost doubled the price of the GD87 so it is in line with their GX-10. If Orange have done this, we could see the price of the P800 much lower on other networks. Then again, the price quoted in the first post is already below what I expected...

That's about what I was expecting. I suspect on some contracts the price will be lower, and that given a few months the price will drop.

What suprising is the closeness in prices to the SPV given that it isn't going to be subsidised or promoted as heavily. I also think people are going to look at is as a much more desirable phone. I can't think of things it can't do that the SPV can do (exception may be close outlook sync'ing), but then the P800 does that too. The P800has many advantages over the SPV not least the bigger screen and the OS 😊

Lovely, I'm going to pre-order one very soon, I wanted to change to orange anyway, but was worried that the phone would come out later on Orange because that the way they seem to work up until very recently.

Thanks, you've made my day 😃

Will the p800 be available before the end of jan, ie mid jan ? or not ?

please help ? and what networks would it be first out on ?

There's too much speculation and no real hard evidence....Even if you speak to SE or one of the networks you get conflicting answers off many of them.

I would probably say we will be luck to get it before christmas, and even if we do they are likely to just go straight out to people with backorders, people have been able to order them since June to my knowledge and probably before, So I expect there is a huge backlog to clear before. :-?

Probably not Enrique, as this price is on contract.

I expect the sim free version to be about the same price (Or maybe a little less) than the 9210.

is it likely though that it will be out mid january on any network in the uk?

some internet shops might have them in stock as soon as they come out no?

could it be delayed till febuary ?

Well January seems to most "certain" date so far, but it has been delayed since September so no promises, but i'm pretty certain you should be able to get your hands on one by mid-late Jan.

Thanks for the reply,

Just to let you know i had an spv but returned it on satarday as it was pants.

very very slow, can anyone deffinately confirm that the p800 wont be as slow as that ?

Also will there be any special gprs tarrif like for the spv which will give unlimited gprs access ? because prices for gprs are so expensive at the moment?

The P800 will definitely be fast, people who had one were almost all surprised by the speed...

About the GPRS, as it gets more popular, there most likely will be flat-fee subscriptions, as we've seen in some countries now (I'm not sure which countries, I'll come back to you on that one), but I heard some rumours about Orange UK planning one.......

Edit:

The Register on Orange Flat Rate GPRS in France

Fido has it in Canada, Verizon is supposedly launching it in the US, Pannon in Hungary, maybe more, did a fast search.....

p.s. A google search on "flat fee grps" gave me only dutch results, a search on "flat rate gprs" gave me some english results as well as other languages.... Guess it is just Dutchism 😉

An article on current smart phones lists the P800 as 299 with contract.
See The Independant today (Wed 04). 😃

The flat rate GPRS service is available for a few months in the UK branded as the "SPV Pack" its 6 a month for unlimited access to all GPRS services. 😊

I hope this doesn't mean you have to buy an SPV as well.... :-?

Probably compensation for all the poor people that paied good money for a not so good phone 😉

it says in that link: "ranging from 49.99 for a Sony Ericsson T300 with contract, to 499.99 for the Sony Ericsson P800, on sale in January"

This could mean that the T300 is 49.99 with contract and the P800 is 499.99 without contract.
