How stable is v3.16?

25 replies · 3,387 views · Started 03 December 2002

I am thinking of upgrading my firmware from 3.12 to 3.16......my main concern is that the new ones will be more unstable......

Anyone had any comments or experience?

I'm happy with the current version in my phone. 3.12 I will be upgrading it at least a 1.0 version difference. Or I sending in my phone for servicing.

i share your concern too ... i'm also on 3.12

however, i cant c any need for me to upgrade the firmware for now that is.... 😊

the onli thing that is bothering me is the volume of the handsfree speaker is too low ..(correctible using error voice dialling EACH time) .. sure hope that is fixed.

I just heard ppl having problems with 3.12 when the amount of memory is less than some hundred of kilobytes. I also like to go to NSC for them to have a look on my phone since i find that the sliding action of the phone is not very sturdy unlike some other phones i have seen. Like when u open the phone, it does not "click" at the end if you know what i mean

well memory wise, the problem that i face is that when i transfer a huge single file 1.5MB to the phone via IR an error message saying that insufficient memory is available, pls remove some application ... but i actually have at least 2MB of memory at that time.

the lowest i'd gone down to is somewhere near 500kb ... and the phone and apps still work fine ...

yeah, i think your slides may have some manufacturing defects ... mine have the click sound but when it is fully extended the upper and the lower part of the seems a bit shaky(not firm) i dunno if thats normal or mine has defects also...

Today, when i was going to NSC to return a phone that i had only got yesterday (3.16), i deleted the very few files and applications i had on the phone. After deletion, to my shock, i saw that the contents of "Tools", "Extra", "Games" Folders had all spilled over to the "Desktop" 😮 😮 These folders were empty when i tried to open them.

I dint bother about it much as i was returning it anyway. But i pointed it out at the service centre all the same, to one of the Glamdolls sitting at the counter, and i had a NDE (Near Death Experience).
She goes... "Oh, its the new software. Its supposed to be like that"

I'm scared to sleep today :black:

mikeeeee.......i think mine is the same problems with yours......it "click" but if u slide it till the edge, it is not firm so if u move the joystick up and down u can feel the phone moves a bit. This annoys me as i found that my friend's is very sturdy.

Sanjay.......did u go to Paramatta NSC? I am planning to drop by tomorrow.

Btw,....how long does a firmware upgrade takes?....i reckon i can just sit there and wait for it?

Yep Cgo. Had been to Paramatta.
A word of caution. They usually ask you to collect ur phone the next day after 3 30. If u are giving it in because of a problem, ask them to give YOUR phone back. Not a replacement phone. If its for an OS upgrade, you MAY get it done while u wait, if u reach early enough.

Personal opinion: I had found 3.12 pretty ok. I had no serious problems while i had it. I've had 3.16 for like 28 hours now, on 2 diff handsets, and i should say, i'm  about them.

These are the problems i have observed on the 3.16, in the past 90 min
1. It hung once, while trying to intall Webviewer.
2. Would'nt alert on incoming message, until u opened them. It would then beep/alert :-?
3. Some installed applications not found on installation (Jar Files)

And then u have about 200Kb less

o dear.......then i'd rather not upgrade......

however i am still curious about this sturdiness problem......i'd like them to have a look.....and see if they can fix it while i wait.......dont think it is a major fix so it should be fast if they agree to fix it that is.

Problem is......i dont live anywhere near parra.....

sanjay.....does your phone feels sturdy?.....if u slide it to the top....does it stay there firmly?

To Cgo i dunno how to say in english about the slide (excuse me)

iya bener slide nya gw juga ngak click cuman punya temen gw nge click tapi kalo punya gw di cepetin dikit waktu buka nya ada suara klik nya heheheh

oh yah eh kpn itu gw bli bt di apus yg msi $85 tinggal satu ama temen gw bli billionton $85 juga hehehe

thx buat lokasi apus nya hehehe

mikeeeee, u c when u have 2 meg and u send a 1.5meg file to ur phone, u need 3 meg free to save it, the 1.5file in ur inbox and another 1.5meg to another directory it saves the file too.

about ur slide, i think its kinda normal. i think the 7650 build quality is never the same, as i have 2, my first one has a really tight feel to the slide, my second one isn't as tight (but its not loose).

to nightfly.....

damn.......gw beli waktu itu mahal bener berarti.....sial tuh apus.

Well.......the sliding action is a bit annoying although it is not a major problem but when i use the joystick it is annoying if the phone doesnt stay firm. I just wonder whether NSC can fix this....myabe just replace the lock pins?

oh yeah about the location of NSC

where else can i go other than parramata it;s too far

thanx 555 for clearing up things !

is there any software that i can use to split the file and send them in smaller size like wat doom did? then when everything is in 7650 combine those smaller files to become the 1 big original file so that it is useable ?

The one i have with me still has a very slight play. My original phone was a perfect fit, no structural weaknesses ( apart from the usual play in Batt and SIM covers). This one has a proper click, and snaps in place at the end of travel in both directions.
As regards them fixing immediately, i have my doubts  (Sorry, dont mean to discourage you)
And you are better off going to Parramatta, as phones are directed, and worked on here. Others are more of just collection centres (according to one conversation i had had with Nokia)

unfortntly not, however the way i do things is to install the big files first so then u can wipe it from the message then install ur smaller files after.

hope that helps.

thanks for ya help. ..

tried that anyway, 😞 deleted every apps and pic just for the sake of sending that 1.5MB file over ... but still doesn't do the trick ..

hmmm... think that just have to abandon the file ... nothing important anyway, just curious ...

well i've been using 3.16 ever since and i must say it is real stable and never had a bid problem with this version!!

i have had my phone since july 3.12 it never hung on me ive had no problems with this at all so i wont bother upgrading

Beware of the memory bug! 😃 It can happen to anyone! Your phone has it, its just that you never had your memory full! If you are careful I guess there is not problem. I upgraded for peace of mind, so that I dont have to think of how much memory I got! It never happend to me either but I upgraded anyways!

ive got version 3.16 on mine, ive never seen any of the problems reported

never had the low memory bug, and my phone has been jampacked (i had doom on it fora week or so till i got too frustrated with trying to control it)

Could someone tell me how to establish what firmware version I have on my 7650?
