mini sd cards with V4.0623

22 replies · 4,471 views · Started 24 September 2006

I'm thinking of getting a 2GB mini sd card, does anyone know if there is increased compatibility with v4.0623 firmware?

Or is it best to be cautious and just stick with Adata since noone has reported any problems with their mini sd cards.

Thanks in advance

The n80 can use a 2gb card from the original firmware since then ive upgraded to V3 and V4 and still works fine.

I think problems occur if you buy a fake card so there is some risk, but then again i got a fake one and it works fine.

There are 4gb cards available now too but i dont know if it will be compatable with the n80. Maybe you can test it for us all.. 😃

I'll probably just stick with a branded 2GB then, as this post taken from the Nokia forums posted by nickwells indicates there may be problems with 4GB cards:

The largest card the N80 will currently support is 2Gig.

Info from Gizmodo

SanDisk rolled out a 4GB miniSD high-capacity flash (SDHC) memory card, giving you the ability to cram a whole lot of stuff onto a little flash card that's about the size of a fingernail. But don't try to slide this baby into that cellphone that uses regular garden-variety miniSD cards, because that's not going to work. It'll fit perfectly but then nothing will happen.

These SDHC cards are based on the SDA 2.0 spec, put together by the SD Card Association (yes, there is an association just for SD cards) that will enable SD cards to shoehorn up to 32GB of data into their miniscule form factors. Because the cards are exactly the same size and shape as their predecessors, all it will take is a firmware update to accommodate them. But will we be able to use them if we flash the firmware in our existing phones and devices?

Remember the days when desktop computer hard disks were just about 20 MEGAbytes in size (or even smaller)? Yes, the space available on storage devices seems to magically increase year by year... But how come it still feels that they are always too small 😊

The bottom link didnt seem to work for me, but the top one is fine but the chances are it is a fake. My fake one looks like that and is fine but there is always a risk.

But its still worth the risk i reckon.

I had real problems with my 2gb card, it would keep coming up as corrupt but a reset would do the trick to get it recognised again. However with v4 I haven't had this problem at all. Super glad I upgraded as it's saved so much hassle!

how about this one from 7Dayshop?
I remember someone posting the link on this forum previously.
Havnt bought one myself, buy seems pretty good price.

yep I (and many others) have that one. no probs.

Just wondering if 4.0623 supports SDHC? Just been thinking of the Sandisk 4 Gig mini sdhc card but believe that the card is still not supported.

AFAIK this will require a firmware update, so I wouldn't hold my breath for SDHC support. The cards have only just been released to manufacturers as of September, and (aside from eBay scammers selling photoshopped / compressed cards) are not available to the general public.

I bought my 2gig card after following the 7dayshop link posted earlier in the thread. Delivery was a little slower than I'd like, but then I'm used to things arriving the day after I order them 😊.

It's been working fine since it arived a couple of days ago on V3 firmware.

I've been using a 2GB Transcend card for over a month now. Never had any problems. Am still running v3.

ah yes thats why they are called 7dayshop! (used to be free del but took 7 days, then they added a you can pay to have it quicker, now its the pay 1 lot of P+P per order and its slow)
