Can you allocate more memory for the web browser?

When I browse sites like flickr with lots of pictures the memory fills up after about 4 pages. Is there a way to allocate more memory for browsing?

S60 OSS browser takes a lot of RAM. There are two ways to solve this problem:

1) Use Opera because it compresses the page.

2) If you prefer to use S60 OSS browser, then consider using Skweezer. Please read my blog about Skweezer here, http://www.s60tips.com/2006/09/22/faster-and-cheaper-web-loading-with-skweezer/.

Using one of the solutions above will change the layout of your page. It doesn't look as nice as the original page, but the contents are still there.

I dont like opera...seems really sloooow to me....the only thing I prefer is that it will store usernames and passwords...if only the Nokia browser would do that then it would be perfect..I dont have problems with memory issues when I use Nokia browser..

Maybe if you clear the cashe and cookies every now and then you will find it works better

an option to use the mem card memory to store pages and othe things sounds like a good idea to me ..

There is a new Nokia web browser, but at the moment it is just earmarked for the N95 http://www.s60.com/business/productinfo/applicationsandtechnologies/webrowser
Would be nice to get an update, would hopefully fix some of the issues with the N80 browser

The main problem with the Nokia browser is that it uses a lot of memory. Consider how it is to use it on phones iwht less memory than the N80 - not always all that much fun. There is not much you can do except turning history and minimap off - the visual history display option sucks up a lot of memory as it has to store visited pages with all images in memory of the phone. That is why the phone runs out of memory after a while.

As for me i use Opera all the time. It is a lot better on memory consumption, and I can not say that it is slower. You really should try it out, if you havent already. The avaliablity of small screen rendering is one BIG advantage it has compared to the nokia browser.

Apparently the version 2 of the Nokia browser will not be avaliable for any other phones than N95 and S60 phones released after that.

-shame really after sorting the memory problem, the browser needs field /password storage and better flash integration, which v2 has. it wouldnt be that hard for nokia to slap it on a firmware upgrade (or even an application) 😡

i would still be getting the n95 for the 5mp cam etc! -buy new hardware for the hardware benifits, same as in the computer world. not buying new hardware because of the free software that comes with it! -that defeats the point of having s60! as long as they pack enough ram etc into the n95 it will be worth getting rid of the n80 for, that should be the way they make sales. but theres a big difference between what nokia should do and what they actually do, we need more smartphone competition so they cant get away with it!
