- Sure you have the "network search setting" set to "Automatic"?
- Sure there ain't any limitations to your subscription at Vodafone (like "3G only..."😉? I would contact Vodafone first. If there aren't any limitations and the respons is that it should work you probably have a faulty device or old/faulty SIM card.

thanks for the help, I contacted Vodafone about the problem and it looks like there was a issue with registering on the network at regular intervals. They advised me to do a manual search for the network to force the registration. The phone is now picking up GSM signals when 3G is not available and can also select GSM only.

After last (and only, so far :frown: ) FW update, I'm experiencing many freezes.

The message is "Not enough memory to complete your request" (or something alike) and only way-out is to remove the battery 😡

Anyone else?

I have had this phone now for about three weeks and there are quite a few problems with it...

The clock gets out of synch by up to 15mins in just one week !

I cannot connect and use my bluetooth stereo headphones unless I power off the phone and power it back on first. Even if I had paired with it earlier - it just wont work. Works everytime on a fresh start.....

When listening to music using the motorola bluetooth (HT820) there is a 1/2 second pause about 8 seconds into each track. I guess there is the possibility that this could be my headphones but I would bet it is more to do with the bluetooth implementation.

When the phone is locked it randomly starts up the walkman and starts playing tracks when in my pocket - in three weeks this has happened on four occasions. If the phone is locked how can this happen?

Surely a firmware update can resolve these serious issues? Does anyone know when we can expect an update from Sony? Apart from all the problems I do love this phone and I hope the anticipated update will fix all these issues....

BTW: I am on monthly contract with Orange UK.

In the firmware you're using the phone lock does not apply to the "play/stop" button on the side of the phone, that's why...

The latest firmware (with organizer R6A16) resolves this issue. I don't know if it's available for any of the branded phones yet. It is available for the Generic World phones through SEUS. I believe that you have to "push" your network provider to get them to provide the latest firmware for their branded firmware package, not SE.

I just tried it and yes you are right if you hold the play button on the right hand side it will start playing the walkman even when locked.

Now call me old fashioned - but when I lock a phone I expect it to stay locked until I want to unlock it. But as you actually have to press the play button for as long as the unlock button then I guess this is a "feature" of the phone.

I much prefer the two button approach to lock/unlock a phone. Sitting in a meeting at work and the button gets pushed in your pocket can make an embarrsing moment when your music starts pumping out!

Thanks for the info ! I will now hound orange customer support on a daily basis with the knowledge that an update does exist that fixes some of our problems!

Discard my post. This issue is NOT resolved in the latest firmware. As richardgnz says, pushing the "play/stop" button for a couple of seconds will still start the music player even though the phone is locked.

it is not a bug!!! if you start the walkman app, and you leave it opened in task manager, the fact that even when phone is locked it can be started or ended is obviously thought exactly because in this way you do not have to unlock the phone if you want to turn on/off the music. close the Application if you do not want it to start unintentionally.

besides also the fact that by holding the play button for 3 seconds when locked starts the walkman app is made exaclty because in this way once again you can start listening to music without having to unlock the phone.
How many chances there are that you press unintentionally the play button for 3 seconds?!

I C you're point 😎

Thats not entirely true.... If you hold the play button down when the phone is locked and the walkman app is not running (It is not listed in open programs in task manager) it will start the walkman and play your music.

But agreed - its not a bug - as I said before it does appear to be a "feature". I have managed to unlock my phone now on a few occasions and start the walkman on many more in a matter of three weeks - every time the phone was in my front pocket in the pouch....

Thats where I carry my phone and I bet where most people do as well. I think the one button lock/unlock system is flawed. That will not be changed in a firmware release so my solution is to leave the phone on silent.

Still love this phone though..... 😊

Are you definitely closing programs down in task manager ? as in click the icon next to the battery level icon (looks like 2 opposing arrows)
Then click on open: all programs listed here are working programs that are using up memory. To close just highlight the program and click end

if you already know this I apologise worth a try

ShedofEd wrote:I think I must have the most unusable W950i out there at the moment. Fair enough it's a pre-release model (actually used in the new TV ad on air at the moment) but seems to share firmware versions with a lot of supposedly 'Released' handsets. Have had it nearly 3 months now - using it on O2 but it's SIM free.

As SuperSwede I get the following 2 errors at power up:

Application: Main/Reason code: KERN-EXEC/Reason number: 0
Application: !MIDP2.SystemAMS.Installer/Reason code: DBMS-Table/Reason number: 11

But then, depending on day of the week and wind direction, I have experienced:

CALLS: Unable to answer calls via screen, keypad, wired headset or DS970 BT headset. (Phone battery has to be removed to stop ringing - even if caller has hung up!) I can usually tell I won't be able to answer without touching the phone as contacts from SIM come up as number rather than name. Frequency - every 2nd or 3rd call (I can get about 50 calls a day in my job).

WALKMAN: Phone freezes between tracks on playback to DS970. Seems to be particular tracks that do it but tracks from the same album (ie: encoded and transferred identically) play fine. Maybe my W950i is trying to say something about my taste in music. Again - battery out to reset phone. Frequency - once a day (in an hour of commute listening).

FILE MANAGER: Certain albums deleted from /music memory still appear in album listing despite having reformatted memory. Can't get rid of these no matter what I try.

IMAGES: Certain JPG images won't display in Wallpaper view (appear as broken icon) but will sometimes work if copied to phone memory. Using images as wallpaper or screensaver seems to increase likelihood of phone crash so I've stopped doing it.

OTHER: Too many glitches to mention but general seemingly random freezing without notice every hour or so of use. Hard to tell phone frozen until you try to use it or someone tries to ring it. And I lost a stylus already - thankfully nearly identical replacement found on eBay for 99p.

But you know what, I still love this phone. Once a FW update comes I'm hoping I'll be sorted - if not I'll have to send it back to be flashed but it's still amazing.

Oh - and Master Reset crashes too!!! Can't even wipe the bloody thing and start again.!!

Hi,

Just an update on the Walkman files still appearing after being deleted (& vice versa) - perform a "Complete Music Update" by cicking the following:

My Music>More>Settings>Preferences>Complete Music Update

Hope that helps - took me ages to work out!

Just recently updated my Firmware to R9GA001 and found out that the option for viewing the contacts from First Name to Last Name was remove... :con?

i cant get my phone on, it went crzy, i try turning it on, i get the "walkman" welcome screen it makes a sound and after 15-20 seconds reastarts and it repeats this over and over till i remove the battery.
please help, thanks

Hello,
I have an Orange W950i debranded with latest generic firmware (R9GA001). The phone is pretty stable with it, no big problems or crushes at all!
But I want to ask you for solution to a small software bug in it. When I put the phone in "Fast file transfer mode" the icons of applications installed in the 4gb Memory disappear, which is normal. But when I unplug the cable the icons are all back in the "tools" menu even though I have previously moved them in other folders. Waiting to hear from you for solution.

Here's the Scenario:

I wanted to install Some Additional Fonts in My Phone. I put my phone in "Fast Mode" and I created a Folder "Fonts" under the Resource Folder in the 4GB External memory. I wanted to Copy Some Windows TTF fonts to the folder and So I opened the Explorer. This is where I think the problem started. I felt like changing the Memory Name of the phone and I changed it to "WXYZ" from "ABCD" and I went into the Above mentioned folder ie Resource\Fonts and tried copying the fonts which failed with the message "The Path is Too Deep". And the memory was not recognized and I kept getting the message Please insert disk into the drive.

So what I did was I switched the phone to "Normal Mode", Disconnected (Here again the external Memory was available in the standard SE File Explorer view) the phone and tried rebooting the same. The phone started Booting and Showed the Walkman symbol for 2-3 seconds and the screen flickered and reseted itself. This is going on continuously. Update to latest firmware is not helping and since I can't boot the phone I can't see the Firmware Version and such information for the phone.

I tried removing the SIM hoping that it would show up the setup screen, but that doesn't work.

Could Someone suggest what can be done to set this issue right?

Hello guys,
I have red all this problems but i could not see my problem, and my problem is this :

I have this phone like 4 months now and it is great, here and there few random bugs but nothing important.
But this is something that could get my phone smashed up, when i turn the radio on and change the radio station my phone is restarted due to better performance
and that is every time now. Fm was working just fine like 5 days before, and all I did is installed smartmovie 3.4 and put some new themes. After that, i tried to delete some of the themes but everything is the same. I didnt try to delete smartmovie because i had difficult time to install it.

here some more info:
Phone : CXC 162037 R9C001
Bluetooth : CXC 162058 R3A01
Organizer: CXC 162088 R1B01

i will try to perform master reset and to uninstall smartmovie to see if that changes something but i want Fm and smartmovie to work.

If somebody have some solution to my problems please help.
If I update firmware maybe ... ?

Why does my W950i dont show the assigned contact pictures of the sms sender? Does anyone experience the same kind of problem? Pls help me out

Hi,

I recently purchased one unlocked w950i. I was able to copy files from my laptop to w950i using Fast File Transfer(cell working as storage device). Few files got transfered correctly. I was able to view them on my cell and few copied with Disc2Phone

After some time, I deleted those Disc2Phone files directly(in Windows) but in reality they are not getting deleted. D2P is not synchronizing the files also.

Now,whenever I try to delete them using cell, it is saying disk error. It is not even allowing me to format the media memory.

Guys, m in real trouble and please let me know what should I do.

superswede, I think u must be having the answer.

Firmware version: CXC 162088 R6A16

Please Help,

Hi,

The problem i have with my W950i is that I need to restart it all the time to be able to use it:
- I cannot make calls or receive anything
- the device doesn't recognize the headset when I plug it in

Everything goes back to normal after restart. It all appeared all of a sudden, nothing installed over the last period, except for your regular media files (mp3 players, moving mms files from one folder to another etc.).
What should I do?
