Good news for E61 owners - firmware 3.0633.09.04

50 replies · 30,715 views · Started 27 November 2006

A x'mas present for E61 owners? Soon owners will be able to upgrade their phone to 3.0633.09.04.

What's new? I can't tell yet, but will be connectivity and VOIP issues. I will upgrade mine shortly when there is a time, as usual, I would need to reinstall my apps.

Some other people may be able to post the complete release notes.

Don't go calling your Nokia care centre yet, it'll take a while as usual.

Be carefull with the update, I`ve upgraded my E61 from 1... to 2... and got problems with the music player (each time a songs begins, the phone resets to default equalizer profile and to get the setting I`ve fixed got to move the volume button. Ive reinstalled the update and got the same problem; all this with Nokia sotware updater. Just have to take my phone to a Nokia center to get repaired and with the FIRST firmware installed on it. No more problems with the music player.
Regards

Actually I agree, even though my phone still runs the original 1.06 firmware, I have heard a lot of complaints about 2.06 and more importantly very little on the positive side of the upgrade. I gotta say that I don't have any big issues with my current 1.06. It still white-screens once in awhile but other than that no big problems. Until a firmware update promises to make the phone twice as fast, or some other dramatic improvement, I am not complaining (too much) about 1.06.

I got the newest firmware and I really like it, it works without a problem, I think my phone was stuck only 1time. When this v3 will be there, I will test it aswell, a pitty that I have to reinstall my apps again but its always worth it.

There seems to be two group of people. One who like to stay with 1.x and the rest who upgraded with 2.x.

My comment is although 2.x doesn't seems to bring any significant/visible improvement, it actually does minimize/eliminate reboots. This is one thing that annoys me in 1.x

Other that that, i have no complains on 2.x

I am in the 2.x camp as my phone came with it!! my only gripe is the media player/equaliser as i like my bass!! and ocassionally i have to reboot as mobile mail locks up/goes slow/ doesnt respond.

I tried the latest update the day I got the phone, wish I didn't have...

NSU bricked my phone and god only knows when my local Nokia service center will have it ready...

Apparently Nokia still can't figure out what most other companies already offer without problems - bug-free firmware updaters that is.

So has the firmware got any noticable changes in it?

Are you a tester for Nokia cos u always get the firmware first?:icon14:

Smallboy,
Post step-by-step on how to test, and I'll try to test it. I usually use the normal setting for music player and worked fine for me.

Edit:
I set the equalizer to 'Bass booster' and played a song. Before a song ends, I clicked on next song, and went to equlizer again. The setting/tick still at "bass booster". Not sure if this what you mean.

My v1.06 crashes maybe once every 10 days or so, if not longer, and I tend to rush thru menu commands and generally give the phone a pretty good workout, so my unit seems pretty solid with this firmware. If v2.06 users are still complaining of crashes as well, I'm staying put for the time being!

The music player bug in firmware v2 has actually nothing to do with the equalizer. It goes like this:

- start playing a song in Music Player.
- listen: there is no bass. I mean, no bass at all. For example you can't hear the bass guitar.
- while the song is playing, change the volume (up or down, it doesn't matter). Listen: the bass came back! It now plays fine.
- skip to the next song: the bass have disapeared again. You need to change the volume again to get them back.

So firmware v2 effectively rendered the E61 completely useless as a music player as you have to change the volume everytime a new song start playing in order to get the bass back. Does firmware v3 solves this problem?

The other bug introduced with firmware v2 that really gets on my nerves is the numeric shortcut bug. It'd be great if you could tell us if that has been fixed: do the numeric shortcuts now work in the phone's menu, Web and other applications without having to press and hold the blue key?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.1; U; en-us) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413 es60)

Bring on the update.

Here you go:

1) Equalizer bug.
Seems to be fixed. I can't hear any significant changes when equalizer set to Bass Booster and volume changed. On second test, I can hear that bass is always present when set to 'Bass Booster' without changing volumes.

2) Crashes
The main reason v2.x is great is that No more crashes. Crashes never happen to me, if it did, its like once every weeks or couple of months.

3) Numeric shortcuts
Seems still the same. When I press 'Menu' key, I pressed any of the numeric keypad, no response. But if I press Blue Arrow and their corresponding numeric keypad, the shortcut works. Not sure if you're referring to this.

v3 so far is more responsive to me, I don't have v2 to company apple to apple, but I'm happy so far. No complains yet.

The firmware update may be available in December or later.

Cheers for this m8, the issue with 2.x is not that the setting is un ticked after selecting the next song but that the setting isnt applied to the next song and to apply it you have to adjust the volume!!

Great. With all those people talking about convergence and Nokia doing their "multimedia computer" brainwash, it was starting to be inscreasingly frustrating to be not even able to play an MP3 file on their high end smartphone.

Grrrr.... What's the point of implementing numeric shortucrts if they're unusable? Frankly, who in their right mind would think that pressing and holding an extra key just to be able to use shortcuts on a one handed device is a good idea? This is just plain stupid.

Thanks for your time mgoodson45, much appreciated.

bass bug is a bug related to headphones
my AD-41 works fine, I don`t have any bass loss after changin track
but with AD-46 there is a bass loss described by elp

It seems to be out now in SW update... happy updating...

Can you share your experiences in updating? I had always religiously format my phones and all memory cards and redo all application again. Do you have any success with backup/restore for both memory card and internal memory applications?

Before doing my recent v3.x update I used the memory card backup thing for the first time. After the update I restored from the card and it worked great, even reverted the phone to the theme I had been using, including me personalized stanby apps bar. It did lose a few installed apps however (Worldmate, Golf, and a few others).

Hi,
What is the "memory card backup thing" you talk about? How do i do it? Thanks a lot.

Goto Tools, Memory, Options and select Backup Phone Memory, obviously you will need a memory card installed

Found this at another Forum I subscribe to (I think that this has not been posted here, so thought of sharing)

I have v2.x and yet when I connect my e70 via data cable and run the Nokia software updater it says that it's current. How can I download v3.x firmware and force an update?

No, Nokia have not released the version 3 firmware for any of the E-series phones except the E61. However, I expect that the new firmware for the remaining E-series phones will be released soon (hopefully early January).

Thanks for the quick response.

I thought it hadn't yet been released but after reading some threads about the soon to be released update it seemed like some had already installed it so I thought maybe it was indeed available. Now that I know it's not yet available to everyone I'll just wait until I hear further and continue reading about it.
