VOIP, TRUPHONE, GISMO, SIPGATE,TIVI, SKYPE thread

Thought I would start this thread because the forum seems to have been turned into a VOIP forum 😊 😊 😊

So may be a good idea to keep all VOIP related stuff here

hehe I tihnk the threads are just about the latest stuff for N80, so when something else comes up, people will post about that instead, but right now VoIP is the only buzzword for the N80!

What's the simplest way to turn TruVoice on and off?
Currently I am editing the AP setting from Always on to When Needed

This has been baffling me, there doesnt seem to be an easy way to switch it off,

What I have done is to add on my active standby screen the internet telephone icon and the truphone wizard,

when I want to disconnect I click on the internet telephone icon and I have the option to dissconnect from truphone (or any other sip service I am using)

Then when I reconnect I go through the truphone wizzard because that seems to work better for me that to go into the internet telephone icon and connect that way (for some reason I can only seem to re-connect with the wizzard)

If that makes sence

Very subtle moving his question to your new thread! That's not confusing at all! I haven't used the Wizard app at all, it has never worked for me, doesn't connect or gives errors. I just connect by going to Internet Tel. and clicking connect, by the looks of things we don't even need the Wizard app at all.

from what I have read in the truphone forum, the wizard is an easy way to connect to the many different hotspots you may be in, I guess this is for the less educated in the sip/voip/n80 area.

For some reason I can only connect at home by using the wizard, when I am out and about I can connect through the internet telephone icon.

Its my crap wireless modem I think ... forever having problems with it ..

Hi Cash, Hi PinkSteady,

Thanks to both of you for the advice.

Using Internet Telephone sets TrueVOIP to Manual connection mode then disconnects - as expected - but I can't reconnect using this method.

TruWizard says 'Verification timed out, try restarting your phone'

However, after a phone restart I have to run TruWizard a 2nd time then it's a rold of the dice whether or not I can use Internet Telephony.

Weird!

A few minutes after restarting the phone, I can make an Internet Call again.

Weird!

This is exactly the same problem I get Dez .. I think there still needs to be some work done by truphone to get this as near to 100% as they can....

Dez, after it says veryfiying timed out dont restart your phone, just press the right softkey, sometimes mine connects anyway (also when asked use existing connection and dont save a new one otherwise you will have millions of wireless connections (well not millions but you get the idea)

Thanks Cash,

I have worked out a method which seems to work every time for me.

Disconnecting from TrueVOIP
Launch Internet Telephone and use the Disconnect option then press OK 2 times (this also sets the connection mode to Manual)
Switch to the Offline profile (which also disconnects the active WiFi connection)

Re-Connect to TrueVOIP
Switch the phone into any online profile (i.e. not Offline)
LaunchInternet Telephone, let it discover services but then CANCEL the attempted connection
Select the following... Options -> Settings -> TrueVOIP settings -> Login Type -> Automatic
Press Back until you are at the N80 Standby Screen
Wait 2 mins and you will see the Internet Telephony Service logo appear as if by magic.

Hooray! (Hope this works for other users!)

Haha .. I think I will go make a cup of tea also while I am doing all that ...😉

I hope truphone figure out a better way to do this...why cant they just develope a button to switch it on, and switch it off...simple things in life are so much better 😊

I think it's more likely that TrueVoice will add a button that activates your kettle...

Actually the Offline profile doesn't make the reconnection process any more reliable, it just stops my battery running down....
... the vital factor for me seems to be that TrueVOIP must be set to Automatically connect for it to work on my N80.

dez_borders wrote:I think it's more likely that TrueVoice will add a button that activates your kettle...

As long as it makes the tea also I am happy with that 😊,

by the way I tried your technique, the only difference was I didnt have to go into offline mode, and it still worked

Ay Cash, it appears the most important factor is the manual/automatic connection setting in Internet Telephone ...

Disconnecting from TrueVOIP
Launch Internet Telephone and use the Disconnect option then press OK 2 times then exit to the N80 Standby Screen

Re-Connect to TrueVOIP
Launch Internet Telephone, let it discover services but then CANCEL the attempted connection
Select... Options -> Settings -> TrueVOIP settings -> Login Type -> Automatic
Press Back until you are at the N80 Standby Screen and wait 2 minutes.

yep, that works, now we need to find a way to get the number of key presses down some

Ungjaevel wrote:I can't seem to connect to TruPhone... do I need to open any ports in the firewall?

I think 5060 needs to be open

F*ck. Doesn't work. I've tried the "automatic connect"-tips you gave us in this thread... the four squares go all white for a couple of seconds, then gets hollow and stays that way.

Any suggestions?

Not sure, I find it tempremental also, is there an open hotspot, or maybe a friends has wifi that you can test, that way you will know if the problem is with your network or not ..

Getting TRUPHONE working perfectly without the Truphone wizard software.

Having initially set up Truphone using the wizard I realized it put lots of unnecessary crap on my phone that I didn't want and also connected to my network when ever it wanted to.

Of course this annoyed me somewhat so here is what I did to get round it.

1 - First uninstall the Truphone wizard, you don't need this program to connect to Truphone. You should be able to find it (if you haven't moved it) in the My Own folder just highlight and click 'C' to uninstall.

2 - Go to Tools/Settings/Connection/Access Points

Here you will that truphone have added extra access points to allow it to connect to your network

remove any access points that truphone have set up, make sure you don't delete any access points you have created for your WiFi/Wlan or your phone providers access points.

3 - Go to Tools/Settings/Connection/Sip Settings

Here you will find the settings for your VOIP connections. (you may have more than one set of Truphone settings if so delete them so you are left with just one set of truphone settings)

a - Highlight the Truphone settings and click.
b - scroll to 'Default Access Point' and click, select your WiFi/Wlan access point
c - scroll down to 'Registration' and click , select 'when needed'

Click 'back' to exit.

4 - Go to Tools/Settings/Connection/Internet tel. settings

If you a have an item 'TruVoip' in this menu, click options delete.

next click Options/New Profile and select your Truphone sip setting, then change name to TruVoip.

click 'back' to exit

Ok you should now have all the settings correct.

Click 'Menu' and goto the 'Internet' folder, click on 'Internet tel.'

after it has discovered services the name at the top of the screen should say 'TruVoip' (if it doesn't see * below) click on the name of you Wlan/Wifi network to connect to TruPhone.

*If you have more than one VOIP provider, you will need to click 'Options/Change Service' to select which provider to connect to.

You should now be connected to Truphone, if you have more than one provider you will the option to connect to them as well, click ok or cancel depending on whether you want to.

Aha!

Dear Truphone customer,

You may have experienced an error when trying to setup Truphone due to a

Nice guide, but it doesnt work for me, I just get message unable to connect 😞, all the settings are there, but the only way I can connect is with the truphone wizard.

Dont ask me why ...

Are you guys using truphone on N80? If yes, how did you get it? I tried Truphone website and it doesn't seem to be out yet for N series.

Truphone and call forwarding,

I have noticed some charges for call forwarding (these are actually going to my voicmail at the moment because I dont currently have a UK sim in my mobile), that I wasnt actually expecting.

I noticed that there is no way that call forwarding can be turned off and thus any calls forwarded when not in a wifi spot for me I will be charged for.

I queired this with the Truphone team and have been told that the only way that this can be turned of is to submit a support request via the "my account" page.

Just though I would warn in case others get unexpected charges..

you can only use it with the N80i at the moment, not the standard N80...the only way for you to get it now is to upgrade your firmware to the N80i firmware

Hi. Despite all the success stories of people flashing their N80's to IE, I am not personally comfortable enough risking my phone as I have never heard of phoenix and all the other apps mentioned. Are these VOIP providers bringing in versions for the standard N80 or did we buy too early and should have held out for the IE version ?

Tivi is the only way at the moment you can use voip with the N80, all others use the Sip client that is built into the N80i

Tivi is ok but is not integrated into the way the N80 works, its a standalone app with its own phonebook, wheras truphone and gizmo for example are more integrated into the N80i and thus use the existing phonebook.

if you want true sip voip then you need to upgrade to N80i firmware, or buy an N80i

But its worth trying tivi, you may find that works fine for you 😊..

I've already updated my phone to N80 Internet Edition, how can i get Truphone? I sent a text to the number on their website, received the text with the link but it said it's not available for my phone. Can you guys upload it somewhere if you have it?

its not possible to do that because you need a configuration file also specific to you ..
