Also, are you on V4 Firmware or older?

I've tried this.. but still the same wont last 12hrs. Bad battery life eh? it sucks.. I always use silent profile so that it wont use up more battery when it rings. I use EI edition by the way.

My battery lasts about 2 days.

Tips:

1) Just GSM mode (less radiation and less battery drain)
2) BT disabled.
3) Last firmware
4) Wifi set as Hubswitch said ...

Not bad, not bad ...

yeah, well Ive tried Hubswitchs method... but cant really comment how well it works cause I changed that when I started using tomtom./

Tomtom use on a 2 hr drive mean I have no full days worth of battery... which is pretty pisspoor. Its easily remedied tho... with my spare battery... but obviously thats NOT how its supposed to be.

yeah, Im pretty sure there a car charger would be 100% useful.

I need to sort my car kit out... still got my old 6230i one in.... hard finding a good N80 one tho it seems

mine needed to be charged twice a day at least, so i really did have to sell the peice of S**t! My dream phone turned out to be useless!

Did anyone find their phone battery lasted longer with the WiFi power setting lowered to 4mW on the N80?

no... unfortunately I didnt notice much difference at all...BUT... I am using tomtom and office products on it as well as a lot of talking... so I dont think it is a true reflection.

Mine lasts on average two and half days. Given I do Exchange emails, surf the net about 90 minutes a day, listen to music for about 30 min a day, plus the occasional game playing and ebook reading. I also do about 4 hours talk time between the two days too.

I make sure I do:

1) GPRS mode only
2) WIFI only on demand
3) Bluetooth off unless I need to use
4) Always discharge as much as I can and charge it properly (ie 6 hours+) on a desktop charger, alternating two batteries

I got to admit though - depending on which country and provider, the battery can vary considerably. In Australia, the batteries seem to last about half a day more than say, in Hong Kong.

your battery lasts 2.5 days, even after surfing the net for 90 minutes a day.....I WANT YOUR BATTERY...GIVE TO ME NOW 😉

About 3 days with:

- BT enabled all the time (synchronises with my laptop at work)
- about 2 hours of podcast listening too and from work
- a few calls a day
- 5-10 minutes of wifi every couple of days to get more podcasts

Pretty pleased with the battery life after the first couple of days. It now seems to have stabilised at about 3 days. If I use TomTom in the car I plug it into a charger (but it only gets used this way once every few weeks)

I used to get less than a day but tried the 16 hour discharge thing twice now and get over 48 hours! Amazing - I have a phone that's actually mobile! Now I can move away from my charger for a little bit longer.

Its like a way to condition your battery, it works with some, and not with others...didnt really work for me 😞(....
basically you charge for 16 hours, then fully discharge your battery, you do this 3 times without using your phone (it takes quite a few days), and its supposed to increase battery life.

but the N80 uses Li-ion batteries that dont suffer from memory effects.. so hows that gonna help?? Either way.... since upgrading to IE my life has died to less than a day... 😡

and I havent done much on it today... just talked for about 1hrs worth. not good...

I was skeptical too but I got so frustrated that I thought I'd try it and it has really made a difference for me. That's with about 15 texts, 1 hour (ish) wifi intermittently to check emails. It does seem to have improved a great deal.

From what I can tell it sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. It's definitely worth a try!

I didn't really notice a difference in consumption when I switched to IE, unless I leave Internet Telephone on - then I only get about 8 hours!!!

I know..I did a test, its posted somewhere here, and you are correct in saying that there is no memory issue, all I can think is that its adding a little extra charge because of the 3 long charges,

I have changed my charger to a non Nokia charger which is more robust, and noticed a little improvement in battery life 😊..

yeah, I have an OEM charger too... was ok till the upgrade so I'll put it down to playing with it more than I thought I had .... damn sipgate! 😉

Did you have a normal N80 before upgrading to N80 IE?

How did you manage to upgrade it to a N80 IE?

What network operator are you on?

Cheers for the info,
Alex

Sorry, I've just read some other posts.

I should of searched a little before posting!

Have you noticed any changes since upgrading to N80IE?

are the N80 and N80IE the same hardware-wise?

Or do you notice the N80 being more sluggish now?

Cheers

al18ex, not a lot of difference .... not sluggish... or if it is its only in the same places my v4 f/w was... battery life as mentioned in another post was bad... but probably cause I was playing with the new Internet telephone and wireless scanning from start screen.🙄

and yeah... the search is useful! 😉

hardware is EXACTLY the same its just the firmware thats different

Does enabling active standby take significant more power? I just realized how useful it is and I started using it today. Just wondering if more experienced N80 users can comment on this.

Thanks,
KiN.

Not really any difference ...the main thing that saves the battery is to set the phone to go into sleep mode after a few minutes of not using it ..

Has anyone noticed any difference in battery life since converting their regular N80 to and N80 with IE firmware?

I guess if your using the VoIP all the time its gonna drain it, but just for normal things like texting and the odd call do you think it makes it last any longer?

Leaving it logged in to VoIP drains it very quickly. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to be much different. It seems to acquire wireles signals more easily, even though I've set the TX level to 4mw. When I did that for my N80 it would only get wireless signals if I sat on my wireless router (maybe I exaggerate but you get the picture).

I see, cos i do get a problem of picking up the wireless signal in my flat when I'm far from the router (and my flat is definitely not big!) maybe its the wireless phone and microwave but its annoying and thats when its set on 100mw.

I am relunctant due to the fact im on orange and i'd lose all the settings... don't really know how much of a big deal that is?!

Most people here are actually quite happy to loose all the orange crap from their phones...

Yes Wifi pick up does seem to be more stable with ie then normal N80.
