Hi Guys!
Just out of curiosity, how long does your N80 battery last when you use it regularly (use the wi-fi, make calls, 3G connections etc) ? :con?

Thanks!
Advance Happy New Year! 🙄

when using regularly i will get on average

36-48 hours

this includes wifi, 10-15 txts per day, 5-8 calls a day, etc

usually daily but when I use it as my MP3 player on my way to work usually I have to charge it again at work before my journey home....

about 3 days, sometimes 2.

no more than a day (and sometimes less).

About 1 hour calling, 10sms, some minutues of 3G or Wi-Fi connection.

Same here .. 1 day with normal use

I normally get two days out of mine before I have to recharge it. Sometimes I can stretch it to three, but only if I don't use my phone much during those days.

I charge it every evening even though sometimes battery still has 3-4 bars. I play games on the tube, or listen to music, listen to internet radio via GPRS when outside, and it lasts me till next evening. I have a second battery, which although it says nokia on it, is not as good as the original battery. I carry it with me as a spare, just in case i run out of juice before i get home. Don't usually have to change it, just every once in a while.

By the way, I have actually found my N80 battery lasts the same amount of time (2 - 3 days) regardless of whether I put it into Offline mode overnight when I go to bed or whether I leave it in an online profile.

I suspect the N80 uses a lot of power in Standby mode, when compared to previous Nokia models.

I feel you guys.. but my batt only last not more than 12hrs.. 18hrs max i guess. I dont use 3G, i dont use WiFi, i dont browse the net, i dont play games, sometimes i just listen to music, 3-4 songs a day.. but im a massive texter.. 200-300 txt msgs a day.. or more than that.

That's pretty bad battery life, but whilst you are writing or reading an SMS the display light always has to be on, so I guess that's part of the problem. You could try dimming the screen-light settings - might get you a few hours extra.

Also, are you on V4 Firmware or older?

HI, im a student i mosly use my n80 for music player and text message and 30 mins of calls evreyday my battery lasts about 2 days im preety happy with but the loose slide is really getting on my nerv's

Mine lasts about 1 day , 1 day and a half, with 40 minutes to about 2 hours calling a day, lots of snake and BT transfers.

1 day - 1.5

Moderate multimedia usage as it kills battery :P

Well i got 2 batts now with

V 4.0632.0.8 N80 IE

and both last me less than a day because im always on wifi, using Symella or SymTorrent, agile messenger, Music, profmail, 10 texts and some calls, some web surfing, also some VoIP calls too , thank god for desk stands lol

Edit: If u are wondering why im not to using a computer then my N80 its because im on my grandpa's house (there is no compuer nor internet lol) and im connected to wifi using a neighbor access point (dont tell 😃)

Dx

Not very long. It last a day, from fully charged at the morning then empty at evening. I use the MP3 player and read news on G3 alot. Have a few calls and some sms during the day too.

I'm not impressed and I'm thinking about getting a second battery. At this stage I'm worried of running out of power if I don't go home after work.

It's also the first cell phone I've had in a few years that I've lost battery on within 24 hours.

yeah, mines similar to everyone else...

obviously, the more apps used, the less battery life.

I kinda got round this by getting a spare battery and a GPS unit that uses the nokia battery too.... so if I get stuck I have 3 batteries for 2 devices.

Changing from V3 to V4 didnt really give me any noticeable battery life extension.

Easiest preserving of the battery seems to be done with low light usage, and holding the menu key down to close open programs that your not using... I seem to nearly always forget to close contacts and log.

Hi
I hope this has not been posted before!

I was miffed at the battery lasting less than a day BEFORE I changed a setting in the phone, now I can enjoy 3 maybe 4 days use now before having to charge. I am not a big user, nor do I text alot.

what did I do?

OK.. if you insist!

The phone is great for WiFi isnt it? of course it is, but its even better if you turn the power setting from 100mW to 4mW, in doing so (it would appear) that:

1 My phone stays switched on for longer periods
2 I am STILL able to connect to WiFi AP at long distances!!!!!

Symbian code error??

Worth a try?

Menu - Tools - Settings -connection -Wireless LAN - Options - Advanced settings and say YES to the prompt - scrol down to TX power level choose options/change/ and select 4 mW ok it and see how it affects your battery life and WiFi connections, you can always turn it back if your not happy!

Happy New N80. sorry,, year!

PS
Not sure on the firmware version :S

very interesting...

Ive not seen that mentioned before so will give it a try. Thanks for the info hubswitch... :icon14:

Hey my pleasure kontraband, i've been hoping to tell a group about it for a little while as I have never seen this before.

Just as a sideline, I think the N91 has the SAME problem too, a friend of mine was so dissed at the thing, I tried the same thing on his (when I eventually found it in the menu - DONT ASK! ) he did say before he got rid of the thing that it DID make a difference too...

Sooooo, perhaps there is something going on there in the code which hasnt been noticed before???

thanks HubSwitch! I can now have about 2.5 -3 days on my N80! 😮

When you change it from 100mW- 4mW, you are making the wifi use less power so longer battery life right?

Yup!

However, even when you have set the phone in the menu to "never" for show network availability in the wireless LAN, the phone still would only last 24 hours or so... (with my Firmware version)

it would look like the thing is still checking the airwaves set to "Never"
Personaly, I think it could be a software glitch (sorry mr software writer - but we can all make mistakes!). 🙄

Anyway, 4mW is a lot less than 100mW and yet I am still able to access an access point up the road from me in my house so....You work it out!

Have fun and I hope you do find that your battery lasts longer too, just like mine 😎

Good tip about the power levels on the W-Lan

My charger is a donkey and never charges the battery fully. It seems ok full bars but never holds the charge.
When i charge from the USB cable i got for it the battery lasts approx 2+ days on mainly surfing calling and music playing.
If charging from the wall charger it was lasting for about 5 hours before going dead
